Pros +
- Loved the bar and we enjoyed our dinner there. Great play area for kids right across from the bar, with a jumping castle for the little ones. Perfect after too many hours in the car.
- LocationStaff very friendly and helpfull
- The Old Barn Family Suite looked idyllic but was cold, poorly maintained, and uncomfortable.
Cons -
- One of the rooms (21) was a bit dated. Also, would be good to put signs up so it is easier to find the rooms.
- Food quality, quantity at dinnerCleanliness of roomsProperty is tired. Needs some TLC
- Unfortunately, this was one of the most disappointing places we have ever stayed, which is a pity as it was the very first stop of our South African holiday after arriving. We stayed in the Old Barn Family Suite, and while the weather cannot be blamed, the suite was bitterly cold with no insulation. While I understand the wish to preserve the old style of the house and keep it as original as possible, the lack of insulation and maintenance made the stay very unpleasant. The gaps in the outside doors were so large that we could fit our fingers through them, and despite the oil heaters provided, we had to sleep with hoodies on our heads. The accommodation was also not clean. The chairs appeared never to have been cleaned, and we even found a dead frog inside. The window blinds were in poor condition and in need of care. One of the bathrooms had no window blinds at all. While the photos of the property make it look idyllic, the suite we stayed in is in urgent need of attention and maintenance. In addition, parking was not available close to the unit, and we had to carry 4 x 23kg bags for approximately 80 metres along uneven pathways, which was highly inconvenient. I cannot comment on the other units on the premises, but I would unfortunately not recommend the Old Barn Family Suite to anyone.

The natural environment
The power kept on tripping in the morning and the shower was not working. The water was cold. A
We did not have the breakfast, the hake we had for supper was niceLoved the electric blankets, entertainment/play area very nice, and I am sure that in summer it will be better.
Did not like the smell of the detergents used to clean the room, and after we had a shower, there was a constant dripping sound of the overflow pipe, and there was an almost fridge like sound coming from inside the roof. It was a one night stay, so I am sure the staff would have made us comfortable if we stayed longer.
Location and atmosphere exceptional
Water pressure not good, no tv in the unit, WiFi week. Accommodation does not include breakfast.
Amazing natural location... lovely walks and its Dog Friendly!Staff are super friendly and a good breakfast is on offer.
Nothing I didn't like... only small issue was the curtains didn't fully cover the windows but otherwise a wonderful stay and I will be back.
Beautiful place and lovely staff.Beds super comfortable.
Rooms lovely but some had leaks outside dripping down door, some showers not great, and a bit dark, should have bar fridges. There needs to be better availability of information - eg process if you want to braai, maps on walks. Wine list improvement - is only protea wine and marked up price wise.
Proximity to Game Reserve
The room we initially booked was having issue, we were offered two rooms instead (would not work with small kid) or family room. Family room was big but it had only one room which means we had to sit in the dark after our son felt asleep
It was great we were able to bring our little yorkie, Grace at no additional charge so she got to be part of the family trip.
Loved the atmosphere of Karoo 1 Hotel, amazing artwork, sculptures and wood carvings adorn the place. Lovely bar and restaurnant on the premises. Beds were comfy. Would stay there again!
Looked forward to our ice-cream and homemade chocolate sauce after our yummy pizza BUT it was very dissapointing. It was 'watery' and did not look or taste like chocolate sauce. Definately not worth it!!!
Perfect location for our road trip and swimming in the rock pool was what made it a very special place to stay.
I would have liked a door (or at least a curtain) to make it a little more private while sitting on the loo in the ensuite.
We were there out of the season, therefore it was quiet, peaceful atmosphere, spacious.Lots of friendly animals wandering around freely.Staff were very friendly and helpful!
Wifi in the rooms were on and off
Bad
Geen antwoord as ek gebel het om te hoor waar is Hotel geleë. Weer probeer en weer..toe besluit om verby te ry na volgende dorp.
We enjoyed nothing here.
The bar is overpriced, and the drink selection is pathetic. They admitted to serving me instant coffee but charged and advertised filter coffee. The door in the room doesn't close/seal properly, the bath leaks the entire bathroom floor flooded, no warm water, they sent the FOOD GUY to come check the geyser, plugs doesn't work, place is so unmaintainted, and dirty and the manager needs to get a degree in management or atleast the basics of customer service and she lacks in everything except attitude. AND we were charged more than we booked for and a tourist fee.
Everything! Friendly staff. Quiet surrounding, clean and pets were treated as people without any sign of pets in the cottage. Thanks.
Pleasant
Filthy floors in the room number 10. Not even one chair to sit on the room. I brought one scraggly chair in from another rooms 'patio' sort was possible to sit at the desk area to do makeup.
Neat and tidy and peaceful and exceptionally friendly staff
Walls between rooms is paper thin!
Great location. Staff went out of their way to make everything work
Rooms need some attention (simple things like having curtains which close and are hung properly. Everything else great!
The property was beautiful and the staff were very nice and accommodating. The rooms were rustic but fit the vibe of the property. The rock pool was especially wonderful.
The amenities in the room were a bit lacking - only hand soap and lotion in the room - no shampoo or conditioner and no iron.
