The location , the estate , the property

It's not normal that at 7 p.m. there's a bucket of dirty water and a broom lying around on the floor outside my room, that one morning they forgot to put coffee capsules in the room, and a multitude of other small details that show a lack of organisation, even thought the staff is friendly

    8SabinePosted on: 11-15-2025

    Very good

I had to pay 32 euro the next morning, which is 3 euro tourist tax and the 29 euro was unclear.

the ground is beautiful and the manager(Ben for us) was very helpful. We asked for a yoga mat and he even brought his wife’s mat to lend it to us the next day. We were very grateful. The reception was very apologetic about the unavailability of hot water throughout our stay.

Out of the 4 nights, we did not have hot water for 3 nights. It was icy cold water coming out from the tap. According to the staff, this is a problem the owner had known for a long time and ignored. Everytime we followed up, we were told there will be some “commercial adjustments” (which I understood to be compensation) with the impression that hot water will come soon. The commercial adjustment turns out to be just a comp dinner of our first night of 89€ (that’s about 6% of what we paid). I got sick on the 3rd night shivering and having cold sweat in my sleep from the icy cold shower on the first night we arrive. That ruined my holiday because I had plans to do so many things that I had to cancel because I didn’t want to get dirty and not be able to shower. So we ended up just stayed in the room or just engaged in minimal activities, far short of all the plans we originally had. By the last day when the warm water came back, I had developed pneumonia and couldn’t do anything. It was disappointing the hotel owner did not provide alternative solution with hot water situation as this is a basic. Not having a solution and expecting the guest to “live with it” is unacceptable no matter how nice looking your property is. The compensation of a meal does not nearly qualify as a proper damage recovery. Whilst I understand making money is important. There should be some proper human decency to put the health and safety of your guest first - especially according to the staff has previously informed the owner multiple times of this issue. I had booked this place based on recommendations, I think my next emails would be to Michelin Guide and Telegraph editorial dept to get them to seriously reevaluate their recommendations so as not to mislead readers.

The positives are - the ground is beautiful and the manager(Ben for us) was very helpful. We asked for a yoga mat and he even brought his wife’s mat to lend it to us the next day. We were very grateful and so the 2 stars here go entirely to him alone.

I booked 4 nights stay with this hotel 6 months in advance after reading the recommendation on Michelin Guide and The Telegraph. This stay was meant to be the highlight of my trip flying from Singapore to Barcelona and driving here. What a huge disappointment. I have never stayed in anywhere without hot water for guest in winter! Out of the 4 nights, we did not have hot water for the first 3 nights. It was icy cold water coming out from the tap. We were told there’s a problem they are looking into but couldn’t fixed. The compensation of a meal does not nearly qualify as a proper damage recovery. Which part of a guest telling you he caught pneumonia from your failure to provide proper hot water is not important?Whilst I understand making money is important to run a place like this. A quiet tranquil setting in a pretty Chauteau.

The music in the dinning room. An expert in background music should be consulted. The background music suppose to create a desired atmosphere not to be to the entertainment for the staff.

owner is saving on everything, no drinking water in the room, very poor food choices, no elevator, so you have to carry your luggage 3 stories!

Located around 20 min drive from the centre of Montpellier, a beautiful estate with a pool, gardens, horses, surrounded by nature; very friendly and attentive staff; our room was upgraded to a bigger one so thank you for that!

The onsite restaurant did not impress us, but we are vegetarians, I do not feel it’s their speciality; the room cleaning service could have been better, some rocks fell of a ceiling in the bathroom and they were laying on the floor until we left

Beautiful property and 5 star food. Our dinner was an experience of Michelin quality dining

I little out of the way to get into Montpellier but when the new tram line is completed it will be an excellent and easy trip into the city from the country.

The building is very elegant and rooms are tastefully decorated. Reception staff are very polite and courteous.

The restaurant food is AWFUL - possibly the worst dinner we have ever had. We ordered an appetizer of courgette, two lamb main courses and one veggie cannelloni. The waitress was very condescending and did not accept any preference for the meat cooking (as the chef decides). The courgette arrived after 45 minutes and 2 chases. To our amazement it was a cold appetizer, made of rounds of undercooked courgette in an awful cold white liquid. We ate them only out of desperation as at that point we were seriously hungry. The lamb came severely blue - I like blue meat but I struggled to eat it - it was so raw that it was chewy and hard. The cannelloni were a strange pasta staffed with what I can only describe as pickled vegetable out of the can. We were a group of 4 international mix of French and Italian, well travelled and used to eat in different restaurants around the world - from Michelin star to simple comfort food. The food that we at the de Biar was simply the worst we have ever tasted.

Whilst visiting Montpellier, we stayed at Domaine de Biar for 2 nights. The Domaine looked beautiful on the outside. The receptionist was very friendly.

I do believe a stay at the Hotel is far too expensive for what it offers. The rooms (except for the suits) aren't nice at all. The cleaning wasn't thourough (still cobwebs and dust) and the breakfast was nice but not special. When we left (I had payed upfront) the guy at the reception said that I still had to pay a small amount for the city tax. He had also charged me a forfeit of 40 euros for tips. This was standard he said but if i didn't want it, it could be removed. We paid more than 300 euro a night for a small room. Carrying our bags to the room wasn't offered nor was any other service when we stayed there. In France service is included. If the service had been exceptional the tip wouldn't have bothered me, but the fact that they charged it automatically and one had to ask explicitly to have it removed disgusted me.

A manor home in the countryside that has been beautifully restored, feeling both contemporary and casually elegant. The rooms are well appointed and the pool area is very large and restful. We loved how the property is surrounded by horses in their fields...their gentle grazing added an element of calm throughout our stay. The breakfast is served on the spacious terrace and was both generous and delicious. The one dinner we had in the on site restaurant was exceptional as well. The staff is very welcoming and helpful....merci Anne Claire and Benoit! We hope to return next year!

    Everything was perfect!
