    Pros +

    • Traditional aesthetic made a nice change from modern hotels. Centrally located in Engelberg and with an excellent restaurant.
    • Loved the hotel and the restaurant and the warm cosy charm. The spa was great too.
    • Beautiful old house, lovely rooms, excellent restaurant (amazing chocolate mousse!), charming breakfast and perfect location for a ski weekend. We also loved the sauna - luxurious, spacious and lovely design.

    Cons -

    • As with many hotels in Switzerland sometimes a double room can be two beds together, but staff were extremely helpful about this. If arriving out of day hours / during mealtimes, you may need to call reception as it isn’t a large hotel. Overall very good stay.
    • Found the room expensive at 275 Chf per night with a bit of a disappointing view bearing in mind we were in the middle of the mountains.
    • The beds were not that comfortable and people were smoking outside our room. When I raised the latter, the staff made sure that would no longer happen.

The building had great character, rooms very comfortable and well equipped, restaurant excellent and wellness very good

It would have been nice to have a pool, or a hot tub

Great little hotel, with a very nice sauna and ski locker downstairs

The rooms are little low ceilinged and the bathroom is cramped, but that’s also part of the charm of the place.

Engelberg is a beautiful location, it's a shame that this hotel doesn't attribute to that.

Avoid The Alpenclub at Engelberg at all costs. We had a horrendous experience, and the manager is a person who lacks integrity and a moral compass. The clever photography you see when booking will have you believe that you are staying in a nice room, which is far from the case when you arrive. The older part of the hotel has beautiful character, and really is a gem, however the management hide behind this to offer you poor facilities. We encountered an unclean and smelly room with an horrendously uncomfortable bed stained with goodness knows what. They also need to update the draughty windows and hazardous electrical issues whereby we encountered exposed wires. We were told at reception that someone would be on hand all night, and it's true, the same manager who greeted us was at the bar drinking with his friends and causing an awful disturbance, however he would not answer our calls or messages until booking.com stepped in. It makes sense that he was talking fast and speaking over us, wiping his nose! His actions were not that of a sober man.We could have leaned out of the window and touched the bar terrace, we were that close to it. I have videos of the manager and his friends laughing, breaking glass, and shouting at long passed midnight, and remember, the windows allow through all of that sound. The manager lied to booking.com many times, stating that everyone had gone home, whilst we were standing in the window watching him continue to pour drinks for himself and his friends. We had to submit video evidence for our complaint to be realised. It is clear that the experience of his guests matter less to him than his own enjoyment, or the enjoyment of the locals. Once he has your money, you matter not to him. What followed was false promises that we would have the issue resolved at breakfast, where the manager was no where to be seen, and the breakfast was poor, and one which could not meet our dietary requirements.

    Great location,

I booked an Eiger view but was given a room facing another building. Despite informing reception, I received no follow-up.

    Nice location and beautiful mountains

The room was very hot and a big smelly for the price point of $250 US

The room was very close to the train station, clean and well equipped (with toiletries, water, coffee/tea machine). Also, I liked the staff (very helpful), the breakfast (very good ingredients) and the quality of the towels/linens and the shower gel/hand soap/shampoo (with natural ingredients and awesome smell). We will definitely come back.

We had a traditional room, in the old part of the building, close to the kitchen and it was a little bit noisy.

Lovely staff, amazing breakfast! I was very impressed by the way the staff were treating us. The place is nice - rooms are nice and clean and have all the necessities. Good comfy bed - a lovely place in general! 10/10 would recommend!

    Beautiful and well-located

Staff not present onsite (we were told to call if we needed anything and they would come in 5 minutes), absolutely no services, just a room. Coffee maker broken. Way too expensive for this skeleton crew experience.

I would book a larger room next time

People make the difference. Thank you to Lars (Hotel Manager) and Michi (Receptionist) for making our stay special. From breakfast to special dinner, from great sauna to clean room, Alpenclub hotel will make your stay in Engelberg memorable.

Employee's where great and really helpfull

We got a really smal room. Further nothing happened in the hotel. It was a roomsonly hotel with a separate restaurant. For Christmas nothing was organised. Also the fireplace on the photo's never went on. So I felt really a little bit tricked. So when they sell it as rooms only hotel where you can eat next door it would be more fair

Overall excellent hotel, rooms were great and location was very good with only a very short walk to the shops and restaurants. Spa was superb and the bar downstairs is a great place to go after skiing

Toilet / shower room in the standard double was very small for the value for money

    Fantastic location.Great hotel.Friendly staff.Lovely toilettries.

Only thing was that the pillows were extremely soft, however this is complaining on a high level.
