- Had a one-month stay at Hotel Monticello Castello and absolutely loved everything from the place and views to the hospitable staff who made me feel right at home and were so accommodating with everything. Thank you to every single one: Raji, Eleonora, Teresa, Roberta, Marina, Francesco and the owner, Tommaso!
- Hotel was what we were expecting. The breakfast was lovely, lots of options and fresh coffee made to order. The staff were friendly and helpful.
- First of all 10 stars for the staff and 10 stars for the views. The location is ideal. You don't need a car. The local bus stops on the road in front and takes you up to the old City on the hill (marvellously romantic) or to the other side of the island. Or back to Porto. If you are lucky, the hotel sells bus tickets at a discount to you. The hotel's own shuttle service is wonderful. I can't imagine a better accommodation on the magical island of Giglio. During the week, the rates are very affordable.A bar and restaurant makes your stay complete. The local beaches are beautiful and not crowded in early October, when we stayed here.
Cons -
- Our only complaint was the shower was slightly small, but worked perfectly.
- This could have easily been a 10 star review, were it not that the hotel needs some TLC here and there. For instance our room could have benefitted from an updated bedspread and a wardrobe that is aired every once in a while. The free breakfast has delicious rolls, but the pastry is not freshly homemade and disappointing. The drinks at the bar are great and they come with snacks. Unfortunately they were Doritos. Small changes will go a long way But don't let this deter you from staying here. The views are amazing!

Welcoming and attentive staff including shuttle driver, front desk manager, and restaurant staff. All greeted us warmly, asked about interests and needs, and listened to our responses. Beaches and porto a shuttle away. Walking paths across from hotel. Amazing custom packed lunch to go. Steep but do-able walks to porto and Castello. Clean room, comfortable bed, great shower, and beautiful building. Fresh baked croissants and rolls at 745am.
Not a thing.
Beautiful hotel with gardens, tennis court, inside ping pong table. Rooms and bathrooms very clean and with ventilation. We were in the top floor with a private terrace overlooking the Castle and the Tirreno sea! Amazing view from the shower window. Lovely staff told me about the hotel story which was built in marble and stone with the shape of a castle surrounded by vineyards in 1900 by a family who used the property as their primary residence. In 1960 the property was converted in a hotel and in the vineyard land they placed a tennis court. The place is quiet, relaxing and good access to beautiful beaches, lighthouse, port and castle. Castle in Giglio island is breathtaking!!
We stayed at this hotel castello monticello for seven nights . The hotel was great overall . The breakfast and dinner options there were great and the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful . The hotel is in a beautiful location either lots of beaches nearby . Our driver raji is incredibly friendly and professional . The hotel is very clean and has a lot of common areas both inside and outside . The restaurant there has extremely delicious food . We recommend this place to all our friends and family .
Nothing .
Very nice view and location
Small rooms and poor breakfast
The position, the wonderful view and the very good restaurant. The free shuttle service was also great.
It could do with a little touch up, but nothing major. Coffee machines in some of the rooms would be great.
I stayed here three nights in early April. The room was small but comfortable, as was the bed. Everything was clean, including the bathroom, and there was plenty of hot water. Breakfast was good, although not the "continental breakfast with eggs" I was told we'd get. No eggs for breakfast, although plenty of cakes, breads/rolls, yoghurt, muesli/cereals, cheese and deli meats available. On the last day oranges and apples were included. Tomasso, at the reception, was very welcoming and attentive, communicating well through booking messages prior to my arrival, and arranged to have a courtesy pick up at the port upon my late 8 pm arrival, although I missed the driver and ended up taking the bus up the hill to the hotel which departed just as I got there. All the staff were very attentive and professional. My dinner on the last night of fish and baked vegetables was one of the better meals I had during my three week stay in Italy. Overall, a pleasant stay and good value . . .
I have to say, if there was one thing that I was REALLY DISAPPOINTED about was my so-called "seaview room" I paid extra for. My room only had a quite small partial view of the sea, as the main portion of it was blocked by a large wall. I suspect that the rooms with REAL views toward the sea are reserved for the larger parties, couples and/or families. But for this single traveler, this is all I got. I was completely bummed as I was really looking forward to staying in a room with a proper view towards the sea. I might as well have booked a cheaper garden view room. When I mentioned this to Tomasso he basically shrugged and said that was my sea view, so I had to accept it and be alright with it. You can see for yourself the view from my room I've attached in the photo below. As mentioned, the "continental breakfast with eggs" wasn't. It would be good if they added scrambled eggs as an option, and fruit every day, not just on weekends. The other issue is be aware that not all buses passing by heading to the other villages on the island by will stop for you. I was told they would. There's a printed schedule and I made sure to plan my morning and breakfast to be out there in time to catch the bus. But when the bus appeared they zoomed past, leaving me stranded on the side of the road. I ended up having to hike all the way up to the Castel and back down to the other side where the small village of Giglio Campese is located, a nice, though somewhat arduous walk, especially after having biked all over the island the previous day. So if you're wanting to take the bus I recommend you hike down to the port and take it from there. It's a good 20 or 25 minute walk.
The rooms were lovely and authentic. Very inexpensive. Great value. The staff were very nice. We loved our stay here.
The hotel gardens are very unkept and a bit rundown.
They have a shuttle available, and the bus stops outside if you wish you to go to Campese. An older property but great value. Staff were lovely.
The hotel has a good location, not far from the port and Arenella beach. The shuttle offered from/to the port is really convenient. The view from the room was amazing. The staff was lovely and always ready to help.
Shower is very small
Staff super friendly and helpful. The free shuttle service is a fantastic plus, very helpful to get to the beaches and to the town (way down is ok by foot, but way back is a pretty intense climb). Pretty garden area.
Bathroom really too small, you could barely turn around without hitting something. In general, a renovation to the premises might be needed. From our room you could hear flushing of toilets of other rooms very loudly, it woke us up. People coming down stairs of building were also super loud, since there was no fabric on the stone steps. Too bad the restaurant is only indoors- in summer it felt a pity to stay inside and not be able to have dinner on an outdoor terrace.
The staff was terrific. They couldn’t behave been nicer.
It was a terrible value. The facility was beat and greatly needs updating. It would have been OK for half the price but not at what they charged.
The staff was amazing. Engaging and helpful with tips about the island. Helped book dinner reservations and had recommends about what to do and where to go. Reji was an amazing driver for the hotel that helped us get around the island.
The best thing that could happen to us during our short vacation. I could not believe the value we got for the price.- Stunning view- Cozy atmosphere- Books, ping pong, board games, etc.- Delicious breakfast- Pleasant dinner experience (paid separately)- Free shuttle to the beach and back- Free parking (despite we didn't need it)- and of course people :)
The views, the staff, restaurant was good & great shuttle service to town. Close to beaches, which we drove too, but shuttle available for that too. The hotel staff were all very friendly & helpful.
Small bathroom was only negative.
Room was very bright, clean and generally lovely. Great bathroom and very good facilities. We stayed in a room with a view on the hill from one side, and on the sea over the other side: it made for a very bright stay and the views are actually fantastic.Staff was great, very helpful and kind, and always available. The room and bathroom were very clean.
Breakfast buffet could be improved - for example by adding some fresh fruit, or improving the cheese and cured meats selection - items on display were a little bit disappointing except for yogurt which was always fresh. The Restaurant could've been better, there are I think much better options across the Island.
Friendly staff, great location, good valueBreakfast was superb, on premises restaurant was also great.
The location was good.
The bed covers and smell in the bathroom. I also got bitten, not sure what it was. The single bed was really small!
