Hotel Riu Monica - Adults Only

Hotel was ok canteen very large and noisy. It was like staying in a nursing home . I was youngest and iam 60 !!!!

Reception staff not helpful. Canteen entertainment ok if your over 70 .

This is my third time at the hotel so I knew what to expect, excellent staff, good entertainment and comfortable room. Food was better than last time,

There was a problem with internet connection, it went off for periods of up to two hours, reception had not had any other complaints about it. Still no terrestrial British TV apart from news but I did find a US channel in English. Our only real complaint is that the coffee at breakfast is awful and the juice is also artificial. Such a shame when the rest of the buffet was so varied and good. I appreciate the size of the dining room and number of the guests makes it difficult to serve coffee and the jug system is a good idea but the quality of the coffee was poor

Beach access was perfect. I enjoyed the path that ran along the beach, perfect for walks or runs. We went half board and the food was delicious with plenty of options to suit all tastes.

Evening entertainment on some nights was disappointing however the duo on our last night were excellent and made up for other nights.

The breakfast was good but I would prefer more fresh fruit as opposed to tinned and some healthy nuts and seeds

Lovely hotel, huge varied selection of food. Drinks prices very reasonable. Indoor pool great, bit too cold for outside pool but all looks spot on. Right on the beach. A few bars nearby but a good 20- 30 mins walk to the main area (Balcona De Europe) which is well worth the walk. Only thing to note is that even though it's adult only I wasn't expecting the average age of the other guests to be about 75!! Not often at 48 in a room full of 200 people I'm the youngest! Certainly felt like making any kind of noise, pool splashing, music etc would be frowned upon! Entertainment each night a bit cheesy we had Elvis and ABBA tributes but all good fun I guess!

The hotel was beautiful. It was in a good location, walking distance from the main areas and it was also overlooking the beach with access to the beach from the pool area. Breakfast and dinner were included. This was handy. It obviously wasn’t fine dining but the buffet offered a good selection. No drinks were included. We ate here most mornings but opted to go out for dinner in different restaurants in the town in order to get more authentic tapas food.The rooms were very clean and house keeping came every day. We had a very large balcony on the top 7th floor. Almost all of the staff were so friendly and accommodating apart from one lady in the restaurant who reprimanded me for coming to the breakfast at 10:20 (the buffet is advertised as being available til 10:30). Her colleagues were all very nice and smiled and welcomed me to breakfast .

Upon checking in we realised that the age demographic of the hotel guests was 70years plus. We knew it was an “adults only” hotel but as we were in our 20s and 30s we felt very out of place as the only guests who were not pensioners. We felt this should have been advertised more clearly as we would not have booked in to this hotel if we’d have known that the majority of guests were elderly. It felt more like a retirement village (a very nice one), but not appropriate for younger guests. There is an indoor pool but it was cold. It is advertised that there is a gym but this consisted of about 6 machines that looked like they were from the 1980s and one treadmill that was out of order so we didn’t use the gym as a result.We visited in April and luckily had some sun , however the pool area was very difficult to lie out in due to the high winds in the area. I’m unsure if this is unusual or if it’s a regular occurrence based on the hotels location but it was a shame to not be able to make use of the beautiful pool and sunbathing facilities. If the winds were calm this area was fabulous.

Book! It’s a wonderful hotel. This is a really high quality place in Nerja and I am not surprised that people come back year after year. The staff make it get extra points from me as they are so pleasant, professional and welcoming. The rooms are so comfortable (not mega fancy but immaculate & spacious ) and the food is REALLY excellent - a very high standard for a buffet set-up. Wow again the staff run the busy dining room like a theatre. It’s v impressive.

Probably the best breakfast we have had in any hotel! The coffee was HOT as was all the hot food including the hot plates. Even the toasters produced proper toast - first time!!

Truthfully can't think of anything! You did not ask any questions about "Staff" So for the record I would put them in the "Excellent " category!!

Location was perfect. Room was so nice and bed very comfortable. Everything you need was there. I asked for room with sea view and it was lovely to hear the waves lapping in the evening. Perfectly peaceful.

I don’t like buffet food in general or tinned fruit. Not too difficult to cut some some fresh pears apples etc.

Breakfast was very good in both content and presentation. I liked the amount of time to have your breakfast. So you could have a long lie or be ready to go ifyou had an early start

Dinner was a disappointment for me. There was plenty but I struggled to find dishes I really enjoyed. Most I tried were not to my taste.

was a bit disappointed with our room number 20. it was like being in a goldfish bowl and had to keep the curtains closed all the time for privacy.

Have stayed here before. The staff are exceptional and the ambiance, size of the rooms and facilities. Another great reason for booking this hotel is the excellent entertainment programme.

I think that the food standards have fallen a lot over the last few years. Dinner had no red meat option except burgers on this particular evening, chicken, fish and pasta were the main choices. My chicken was dry and pretty tasteless. my friend's fish was also disappointing. It was obvious that the management was cutting costs with inferior produce. For example even since November last smoked salmon has disappeared from the selection. However, breakfast was good apart from undrinkable coffee.
