    Pros +

    • Very friendly owner with great ideas on what to do in the area. Clean sheets and towels. Free parking
    • Location and theme
    • Perfect location for exploring Abel Tasman National Park and Wharariki Beach and the archway islands... And the nicest and most helpful owner... really really watches out for his guests and takes care of them to the utmost

    Cons -

    • No curtains on shower windows, toilet wasn't really private...we would clean out cobwebs and spiders and someone else would leave both doors open. Wifi faded in and out. Broken door on yurt made it hard to close.
    • Very badly maintained and no cleanliness. One of the room was having mouldy smell. Even the basic things like towel were at least 20 years old.
    • There's absolutely nothing that I did not like about this establishment for my stay it was absolutely perfect and exactly what I needed

Perfect traditional Bach feel and look to the cabin. Bed was super comfortable, the shower was great, the kitchen had all the equipment we needed. Towels were provided which was a godsend. The view from the bed across the garden to the sea was amazing. Steve the owner was very helpful and friendly.

The host is so friendly and inviting and the cabins have everything you need and it is in a great location, close to the beach and to town.

Superb peaceful location overlooking Pohara beach on Golden Bay. Steve very helpful and friendly. No frills but very special and memorable place to stay. Wish we had more time here.

Handy location near the coast in a quiet area with great star gazing. Rooms were fairly basic, reasonably sized but good value. Pizza night was a nice communal touch and Steve was an excellent host. Good cafe nearby.

A little tired and curtains not effective for blocking light.

The Sandcastle is in a super location 10 mins walk to the lovely Pohara beach. We arrived early and had a nice welcome from owner Steve. The accomodation was spacious and had everything we needed - the gardens and setting are lovely. It was a great place to stay and we felt very lucky to meet Steve and hear about how he came to live there. He invited us to join in a pizza evening with homemade pizza dough and the pizza oven in the garden and we ate pizza with other guests and had a great evening. It's not a modern place but it's a very special place and we were made so welcome. We will remember our time in Pohara and Thank you Steve

The horses, the low key feel, the place just had a nice vibe.

That the curtains weren't hung well. Silicon spray in the tracks will help them slide nicely and avoid them getting tugged which is when they start to loose hooks.

The property was so quaint and cute! There were various cottages all overlooking fields, garden and ocean! Simple accommodations with everything you need. Steve was very accommodating, such a great host! He helped us make pizza without the brick stove since it was rainy; he went very out of his way. Thanks again!

I think they could make check in a lil smoother! I had to get someone to help flag down Steve (who was weedeating the lawn). But it was still ok :)

loved the location, peaceful and private. We did our own breakfasts . Had deep restful sleeps. Nourishing natural environment. Dog friendly. Steve is great to deal with. Very friendly environment.

The location was nice and quiet, close to beach and the kids loved it that's the most important thing so I loved it too

It would of been nice if the cob webs were all gone and to have more blankets

    Passable

We enjoyed the morning birdsong and the peaceful country setting of these rustic chalets. Our chalet was comfortable however we did not discover until late in the evening after visiting friends that we had no hot water. Or a refrigerator that worked. We searched for some kind of switch but no luck. It was too late in the evening to contact the owner and the following morning we could not locate the owner at the property. Fortuitously on our way out of Pohara we spotted the owner at a local coffee cart and we were able to express our disappointment face to face. He suggested that he could make a sign to indicate a switch with regard to the hot water and refrigerator. I hope he follows through with this as we hate to think of other tourists finding themselves in the same situation.
