Friendly staff and we really enjoyed the quiet atmosphere. It's too bad we didn't take advantage of the pool. Enjoyed the complimentary breakfast, the service was great, food was so good. Home away from home ¿¿
Loved that it had been slightly up dated since last time I was there but still had the same charm I loved last time. Food was good staff were great and made me feel special.
Great place with great amenities, hot tub was out of service but will definitely make it our stop on road, really great complimentary breakfast in the morning, relaxing n quiet.

Very nice hotel with a great breakfast.
When I could not remember my credit card pin for the $250 charge for a deposit, they still allowed me to stay the night. I really appreciated that! I would stay there again on my next visit to Lloydminster.

We are travelers from Boston, MA who loved the staff members who talked with us for several hours the following morning about biking, traveling and the best places in their area to see. This is priceless!

Staff was friendly, lots of options for breakfast and longer breakfast hours than most hotels, but the food is not even close to being the best hotel food.

Top Tips
- Book hotels 3-4 weeks ahead of harvest season (September-October) to secure lower rates. Room prices usually rise 20-35% and availability drops within 2 weeks due to increased demand from agricultural contractors. Check hotel event calendars to avoid local event surges.
- Selecting hotels on the Alberta side avoids Saskatchewan's 6% Provincial Sales Tax (PST). Properties west of Meridian Avenue charge only 5% GST, saving about 11% per night compared to Saskatchewan-side stays. Verify with your hotel that taxes are applied as described.
- If you plan to work remotely, confirm Wi-Fi speeds before booking. Most independent hotels provide 25-40 Mbps, while Sandman Hotel offers 65-85 Mbps via wired connection. Ask for 50 Mbps download minimum for video calls, and note Wi-Fi speed may vary by room within the hotel.
- Request step-free access specifically, as only 12% of rooms in Lloydminster meet Step-Forward Canada accessibility standards. Confirm roll-in shower and door width over 81 cm when booking; Sandman and Hampton by Hilton each offer 2 compliant units. Reserve accessible rooms early due to limited availability.
- Pay in CAD to avoid dynamic currency conversion (DCC) fees. Seven out of nine major hotels accept USD, but DCC markups of 3-7% apply unless declined. Always request local currency and check your receipt to confirm the charged currency.
- Use local ATMs from ATB Financial or Affinity Credit Union to cut withdrawal fees. Interac network ATMs charge $1.50-$2.00 CAD (approx. $1.10-$1.50 USD), while hotel or gas station ATMs often charge $3.50+ CAD (approx. $2.60+ USD). Many ATMs are bilingual (French/English); find locations ahead of arrival.
- Confirm heating type for winter stays (November-March), as minimum temperatures average -15°C to -25°C. Older motels using baseboard heaters may be less comfortable; book hotels with central HVAC, such as Sandman or Hampton. If choosing smaller or independent properties, pack extra layers for added warmth.
- Skip bottled water, as Lloydminster’s tap water meets Alberta and Saskatchewan safety standards, tested annually with no advisories since 2018. Bring a reusable bottle and refill for free. Ask the front desk about water refill stations if needed.
- Bring valid government-issued photo ID for hotel check-in, as 80% of hotels require it due to provincial liquor licensing laws. An enhanced driver’s license or passport is recommended. International guests should keep their supporting immigration documents available.
- Avoid Friday or weekend check-ins during local rodeo or hockey tournaments, as occupancy rises 40-60%, with Friday rates up by 25%. Midweek stays can save $15 to $50 CAD (approx. $11 to $37 USD) per night. Check local event schedules before booking.
- Leave your room key in the discard bin at checkout. Nine of ten hotels (including Sandman, Travelodge, Super 8) use bins to reduce contact, saving a 2-5 minute wait in lines. Check if digital checkout options are available.
- Tip housekeeping $2-$5 CAD (approx. $1.50-$3.70 USD) nightly by leaving a cash note in the room. Rooms without tips may see service delayed by 15-20 minutes on average. Tipping is appreciated but not mandatory; follow hotel policies if posted.
