The price and it was just as nice as the hotels that are trying to charge you triple the price for the same thing
Close to the train station
The hotel was under major construction, it was a crummy hotel, and the price was high for what a crappy hotel it wall. The breakfast was not good, there was not much room in the lobby to sit. It was one of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had.

Proximity to family and events. Front desk quick to respond but housekeeping not good. Breakfast was good.
The price was very reasonable. We unexpectedly needed to stay overnight due to a medical issue. Perfect location! The spa (hot tub) was small but I greatly appreciated it!! The pillows and blanket were heavenly. I slept all night, very comfortable!

I especially enjoyed, after having to call the police for 3 employees entering my room without my knowledge, going on my phone, stealing my money, and my jewelry; that the window they took out of its frame and left propped up against it fell onto my dog

Top Tips
- Request a room on a higher floor or the north-facing side to reduce Chapel Street nightlife noise. Most bars close by 11:30 PM, and some chain hotels provide soundproof windows, blackout curtains, or in-room white noise machines—ask staff to confirm available amenities or if specific room locations offer added quiet.
- During Yale Commencement (late May) and Reunion weekends (mid-June), downtown rates can rise up to 50% and rooms fill quickly. Book 2-6 months ahead to secure a room, and review flexible cancellation policies. Some loyalty programs offer early access or price protection, so check any memberships you hold.
- Hotels within a 0.2-0.6 mile (0.3-1 km) walk of Union Station provide efficient access to Amtrak and Metro-North trains for NYC and Boston. For rapid connections, confirm walking routes or ask if the hotel provides a shuttle, especially for late-night arrivals. If you need mobility support, inquire about accessible shuttles or step-free paths to the station.
- Tweed-New Haven (HVN) is 3 miles (5 km) or a 10-15 minute drive from downtown. Most chain hotels can arrange taxis, private cars, or shuttles—verify options during booking or at check-in. ADA-compliant transfer vehicles are available on request at many properties.
- Bradley International Airport (BDL) offers more flights but is about 50-60 miles (80-97 km) or a 1-1.5 hour drive from New Haven. Plan airport transfers in advance and check if the hotel offers discounted shuttles or partner car service options. Rideshare apps such as Uber and Lyft are popular and fares are typically transparent.
- Downtown hotels offer valet, self-park lots, and access to municipal garages; parking fees, overnight rules, and EV charging types vary, so confirm costs and charger compatibility before arrival. Ask about accessible parking or stroller-friendly drop-off areas if you need them.
- Wooster Square and the New Haven Green neighborhoods are a 10-20 minute walk from most downtown hotels and feature dozens of restaurants, including popular pizzerias. Explore these areas on foot for local dining, and ask your hotel for an updated list of accessible walking routes. Some properties also provide discount cards or guides for preferred local restaurants at check-in.
- Historic properties in East Rock and Westville often have stairs or narrow corridors, and step-free or accessible rooms may be limited. Explicitly request step-free access, elevator service, or visual alarms if you require them for mobility or safety. Hotel staff can recommend nearby properties with full ADA compliance or share tips for accessible attractions.
