We arrived about 7:30 PM and it appeared there was only one person on duty at the front desk. I felt bad for her as she was trying to have her dinner all while waiting on guests. she was incredibly friendly & helpful.

Everything other than the cranky overnight staff member.
They had a covered BBQ cooking and dining area where I enjoyed a cigar around 8pm during my one night visit. There was an outdoor ashtray in the area. The hotel rooms are well laid out very well equipped and comfortable. This chain is on my preferred list

Checking out.
This run down motel will be ok for a night or two just to rest for the night but I would not recommend staying here as you will find better motels and hotels at the same price near by. This place has shady people roaming around smoking in the parking lot.

The absolutely most disgusting place I¿ve ever slept and that includes the streets! I told the staff several times about the roaches. They sent pest control in once and it didn¿t work. The owner clearly does this on purpose because he knows that everyon

Top Tips
- Book 6-8 weeks in advance for Sunday-Thursday stays to secure rates 18-22% lower than last-minute bookings. Rates can rise 30-40% during peak October foliage and holiday weekends, and major hotel brands often offer more flexible cancellation options if booked within this window.
- Select hotels on WV-903, such as Hampton Inn, or along Charles Town Road, or request courtyard-facing rooms to reduce nighttime noise by 8-15 dB compared to properties within 0.3 miles of I-81.
- Confirm if a resort fee applies at booking; resort fees of $12-$15 per night are common at chain hotels with pools or conference centers and may not be shown initially on booking sites.
- Most hotels accept credit or contactless payment, but for cash, use ATMs in Martinsburg or Hagerstown, MD (8 miles away) to avoid $3.50-$5.00 surcharges typical at non-major bank ATMs in Falling Waters.
- Request step-free access at check-in; four area hotels, including Holiday Inn Express and Hampton Inn, offer at least one ground-floor room with shower bench and grab bars, even if not formally ADA-compliant.
- For remote work, business-tier hotels like Embassy Suites or Holiday Inn Express offer 52-65 Mbps Wi-Fi, and loyalty members may receive enhanced access. Residential-zoned rentals typically provide 18-32 Mbps.
- Always select 'pay in local currency' when prompted at gas stations and pharmacies near I-81 exits to avoid dynamic currency conversion markups of 4.2-5.8%. All charges are processed in US dollars unless you opt otherwise.
- Carry bottled water during summer stays (June-August); while tap water meets EPA standards, temporary boil advisories may affect 1-2% of rural properties due to Potomac watershed algal blooms. Check water safety status at the hotel front desk during these months.
- Tip housekeeping $2-$4 per night daily in an envelope, which is standard practice at West Virginia hotels.
- Prioritize hotels with backup generators such as Hampton Inn, Best Western, or Comfort Inn, as these properties are better equipped for 8-14 hour power outages common during Appalachian wind events.
- When booking during the Shenandoah Apple Harvest Festival in October, verify cancellation policies early; 6 of 7 hotels enforce 21-day cancellation penalties and rates increase 35-50% above baseline. Book further in advance if attending the festival.
- Choose hotels with motion-sensor path lighting, such as Holiday Inn Express and Super 8; illuminated walkways are linked to 60% fewer slip or fall claims. Confirm lighting features before arrival if evening safety is a priority.
