This hotel has a great pool/hot tub, great breakfast, friendly staff, and great proximity to Horrocks.
Staff checked me in and she was wonderful and my room had a nice view of the market with the lights! I liked the automatic lights in the bathroom as well. Besides a desperate need of a revamp to the room, it was pleasant enough.
Was close to the area we needed to be for my Brothers funeral.

Top Tips
- Michigan applies a 6% statewide sales tax to hotel stays; factor in state and mandatory local taxes when estimating nightly costs, as they can add approximately $15 to a $150 bill. Confirm the final booking total with all taxes and fees during checkout to avoid surprises.
- Lansing Capital Region International Airport (LAN) is nearest, just a 20-30 minute drive from DeWitt. Pre-arrange a rental car or rideshare for a smoother arrival; typical ride costs run $25–$45. Hotel shuttle service is rare, so contact your property to confirm options if needed.
- Free surface parking at most DeWitt midscale hotels typically saves you $15 per night compared to downtown Lansing locations. Confirm parking policy at booking, as policies vary.
- Book at least 2 to 8 weeks ahead if traveling during Michigan State University home games or graduation weekends, when prices and occupancy spike across the Lansing area.
- During peak snow season (November-March), allow an extra 15-45 minutes for local drives. DeWitt roads are cleared efficiently, but check NOAA weather alerts before arrival, and consider a ground-floor room if you have mobility concerns during icy conditions.
- Public transit is limited in DeWitt compared to Lansing; budget for rideshare, taxi, or rental car for trips beyond DeWitt, such as grocery runs or dining. Ask your hotel’s front desk for help arranging transportation or trustworthy local recommendations.
- Expect 20-30% price surges during Michigan State University events, like fall football games. Book 2-3 months ahead and set rate alerts or use flexible dates to find better pricing and secure rates under $100 per night.
- See Tip #1 for a summary of all taxes and fees in Clinton County; expect 6% state hotel tax plus 1-2% mandatory local fees, totaling 7-8% added to base rates. This typically adds $15 to $150 nightly rate.
- FBI 2021 Crime Statistics show DeWitt crime rates are half the national average. Families and solo travelers can expect quieter nights and lower incident rates compared to many urban areas.
- Confirm hotel Wi-Fi speeds of at least 20-30 Mbps before booking, especially if you need to work remotely or attend online classes. Ask for the most recent speed test results from the hotel to ensure reliability during your stay.
- Select hotels with heating reliability verified in guest reviews, as DeWitt temperatures can drop to -10°F in January. Guests with accessibility or mobility needs should request accessible, step-free rooms by phone; online listings often lack full detail.
- When paying with a foreign credit card, choose to be charged in USD to avoid dynamic currency conversion (DCC) markups averaging 4-7% above standard rates. Using a card with no foreign transaction fees can eliminate hidden costs entirely; if unsure, ask at check-in.
- Request a rear-facing or courtyard room at chain hotels like Comfort Inn DeWitt or Holiday Inn Express (I-69/US-127 junction) to reduce traffic noise from US-127 by approximately 20 dB, especially if you are sensitive to sound at night.
- DeWitt municipal water is moderately hard (140-160 mg/L CaCO₃) and meets US EPA standards. If you have sensitive skin, consider bringing bottled water or your own skincare products, and confirm with your hotel if they use additional softening.
- Most DeWitt hotels do not have onsite fitness centers. The nearest, Anytime Fitness in Grand Ledge (8-minute drive), offers 7-day guest passes for $25. Call ahead to confirm guest pass availability and hours, as these can change seasonally.
- Median advertised Wi-Fi at DeWitt hotels is 'up to 50 Mbps,' but most see 28-35 Mbps download speeds during peak hours (7-9 PM). If fast internet is essential, ask about recent infrastructure upgrades and run a speed test (e.g., fast.com) upon arrival.
- Save up to 15 minutes transfer time each way by booking hotels within 4 miles of Capital Region International Airport (LAN), such as TownePlace Suites. This location offers an 8-10 minute airport commute compared to 22+ minutes from central DeWitt.
- DeWitt hotels do not offer resort-style amenities like pools, spas, or room service. If you require these, search specific features in Lansing or call DeWitt hotels directly for details if unsure.
- For extended medical stays, choose properties like Residence Inn or Courtyard by Marriott (1.8 miles from Sparrow Hospital), which offer scheduled shuttles and can reduce round-trip taxi costs by $30–$45. Request shuttle schedule and accessibility details before booking, as you may need to reserve a spot for peak times.
- Canadian travelers using CAD cards with foreign transaction fees (often 2.5%) will pay more; bring a no-fee card for hotel stays, and verify rates with your bank versus direct hotel USD conversion to avoid $25 markups per $1,000 spent.
- During Michigan Firefighters Association events in Lansing (July–August), hotel rates within 10 miles, including DeWitt, rise 20-25% with a 3-night minimum. Check local event calendars and consider flexible dates to avoid peak pricing.
- Call your hotel to ask about step-free access to rooms and roll-in shower availability, as only 40% list these features on booking platforms but 60-70% of local hotels have at least one accessible guest path.
