It was very convenient for our reason for traveling which was to attend the Navy boot camp graduation. There is a paid shuttle that will drop you off at the pedestrian gate, saving a lot of time with parking on base.
The location and the manager. Location was perfect! Right where we needed to be for the Navy base and surrounding area. The manager was absolutely amazing! He went above and beyond to welcome us, make us feel welcomed, and inform us of things.
The area is nice. It was quiet in room even with some commotion (police near, fighting) we weren't bothered. Many family's stay here that have kids graduating Naval boot camp. 6minute drive to nice casino. $10 free play each new person!

The pillows were nice. The parking was close to our room.
It was nearby the naval RTC so it made attending the graduation a breeze, and having a room close by for his liberty break was advantageous to the short amount of time we had.

Top Tips
- Travelers commuting to downtown Chicago can book hotels within a 0.1-0.6 mile walk of Waukegan Metra station to avoid daily parking fees and traffic congestion. The Metra Union Pacific North line provides direct rail access, with travel times of about 60-75 minutes each way. Confirm schedules and ticketing in advance on the Metra website for optimal planning.
- For guests seeking consistent loyalty benefits, hot breakfast, or reliable meeting space, select hotels in the Gurnee area along the I-94 corridor, 10-20 minutes by car from downtown Waukegan. Most downtown Waukegan hotels are independently managed with fewer amenities, but many Gurnee chains offer pools, fitness rooms, and business centers; check your chain’s app for eligibility and features.
- Genesee Theatre events raise demand for local hotels, especially during major concerts. Book weekend stays 2-6 weeks in advance to secure preferred rates and availability. Nearby dining and entertainment venues make the area convenient for event weekends.
- If lakefront access is important, choose hotels labeled 'downtown/lakefront' and verify actual walking times. Most waterfront points are a 5-15 minute walk from central Waukegan, and lakefront hotel options are limited. Explore the Waukegan lakefront for scenic walks or sunrise views.
- Onsite parking is free at most suburban and motor hotels, while downtown or lakefront hotels and municipal lots often charge hourly or overnight fees. Confirm the daily parking rate and validation or in-and-out privileges before booking.
- After dark, prioritize staying and dining in the north or downtown hotel cluster, where restaurants and lighting are more prominent. Avoid lesser-lit industrial or harbor areas at night, and use main streets such as Sheridan Road or Belvidere Street for walking routes.
- From June to August, expect warm, humid conditions and shoreline mosquitoes. For lakefront walks or outdoor hotel amenities, pack EPA-registered insect repellent and lightweight, long-sleeved clothing. Hotel staff can suggest reliable local repellents or supplies if you forget to bring them.
- If you need an accessible room or other ADA features, confirm availability before arrival. While Waukegan’s transit center and key sidewalks have step-free access, amenities like roll-in showers and grab bars should be reserved and confirmed in writing directly with your hotel.
