Upon arriving at the hotel, everything was fine, we were informed that the shuttle to the airport stopped at the car rental, and you get an airport shuttle from there. Which was no problem.

Where to stay in Lakefront Airport
Learn about the top neighbourhoods of Lakefront Airport
Be in the center of it all in this this French- and Spanish-influenced neighborhood that's quintessential New Orleans, running from Canal Street to the Marigny and the Mississippi to Louis Armstrong Park. It's a feast of the senses, from the voodoo shops to the late-night buzz of Bourbon Street to the Jackson Square fortune tellers. Then there's the chance for leisurely horse-drawn rides in front of St. Louis Cathedral, beignets at the famous Cafe du Monde or muffalettas at Central Grocery.
I-10 and Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport take center stage in this neighborhood west of Bourbon Street. The area is stellar for kids of all ages flocking to the shops, restaurants, museums and theaters of nearby Kenner's Rivertown. Head north to Lake Pontchartrain where a dance with Lady Luck at Treasure Chest Casino entertains after a day of events at the Pontchartrain Center.
Nestled between Lake Pontchartrain and the Intracoastal Waterway, this area is mostly residential and popular with those looking for a discreet spot within 10 miles of everything central New Orleans has to offer. Locals wake up early Saturday mornings to venture east of the neighborhood to the nearby Vietnamese Market. Top Tips
- Book early for Lakefront area stays, especially during events like Mardi Gras (February-March) or Jazz Fest (April-May). Rates citywide can rise by 30% or more and sell out months ahead. Compare at least 2-3 hotel options and set calendar reminders for event release dates.
- Factor in mandatory local taxes and fees: New Orleans hotels typically add 15% to 17% on top of the nightly rate, plus daily surcharges around $15. Confirm your total expected cost before arrival to avoid surprises.
- Bring a government-issued photo ID and a credit card in the reservation name for check-in. Some hotels hold a $15-100 deposit for incidentals - call ahead if planning to use cash or debit.
- Confirm transportation. Lakefront Airport (NEW) lacks direct public transit - rideshares average $15-30 downtown (8-11 mi, 13-25 min traffic-dependent). Ask if the hotel offers a free shuttle or check ride app pickup zones, especially after 20:00.
- Check recent guest reviews on TripAdvisor or Google for updates on renovations, cleanliness, and area safety. Conditions can shift rapidly; filter by 'most recent' and sort by traveler type for specifics.
- Tipping is customary: leave $15 per night for housekeeping, $15 per bag for bell service or valet, and $15 for airport shuttle drivers. Hand tips directly for best service tracking.
- June-November is hurricane season. Ask your hotel for official evacuation plans and local emergency contacts at check-in, especially if you require accessibility accommodations or medication storage.
- Request a room facing away from major roads or the airfield if you are sensitive to noise. Airplane takeoffs typically run from 6:00 to 22:30. Most hotels will note the quietest locations on request.
- Dining on-site may be limited. Ask staff for walkable seafood and po'boy spots in New Orleans East or Gentilly (most within 2-3 mi). Confirm any kitchen or late-night options at check-in if arriving after 21:00.
- Select hotels with secure parking, 24-hour front desk access, and well-lit grounds. Lakefront neighborhoods can be quieter after dark. Verify these safety features in the room listing or by calling the property directly.
- Parking is often complimentary or $15-10 near Lakefront Airport, a savings compared to downtown rates (up to $40/day). Confirm costs and reserve a spot if arriving after business hours.
- Hotels with an outdoor pool offer relief from New Orleans' heat, which regularly exceeds 85°F (29°C) from April through October. Confirm pool hours and accessibility features if traveling with children or mobility needs.
- Present a valid photo ID and a credit card in your name at check-in. The hotel may decline check-in if names do not match. Call ahead to update the reservation if required.
