Nothing the WiFi was horrible, the room didn’t have a refrigerator or microwave. The door was a pain to close, the blanket and sheets had burn marks on them.

The Desk Clerk, She made sure to put me in a room that was as far away from the rif-raf as possible. She needs a protion, a raise and some help from corporate to get that property turned around.

Top Tips
- Reserve your hotel near Meadows Field (BFL) 4 to 6 weeks before peak events like the Kern County Fair or the summer harvest season. Hotels within 2 miles of the airport fill quickly during these periods, so early booking increases your chance of securing preferred rates.
- Check recent guest reviews on platforms like TripAdvisor for cleanliness and staff responsiveness, and verify if secure, gated parking is provided. Car break-ins have been reported in some Bakersfield neighborhoods, so prioritize properties offering monitored or gated parking lots.
- Select hotels offering complimentary airport shuttles from Meadows Field to save on taxi and rideshare costs, which are typically $15 to $25 USD per trip. Confirm shuttle frequency and hours when you book, especially if your arrival is after 20:00.
- In Bakersfield summers, temperatures can exceed 100°F (38°C), so choose a hotel with reliable air conditioning and a pool. Properties with included breakfast or fitness centers may add value, especially for longer stays.
- Prioritize hotels with flexible cancellation policies, ideally offering free changes up to 24-48 hours before check-in. This is especially useful for business travelers whose plans may shift suddenly.
- Renting a car from Meadows Field is recommended, as public transit options are limited and taxis between the airport and downtown Bakersfield usually cost $15 to $30 USD each way. Confirm your hotel's parking policy, since some charge daily fees.
- When tipping hotel staff in the U.S., plan on 15-20% for food or room service and $2 to $5 per night for housekeeping. Valet service typically receives $3 to $5. Treat staff with courtesy to foster positive interactions.
- Ask the front desk for local dining suggestions, such as Basque eateries like Woolgrowers, or for live music venues like Buck Owens' Crystal Palace. Many top hotels are within 3 miles of downtown attractions.
- Prepare for Bakersfield’s hot, dry climate by packing sunscreen, hats, and refillable water bottles. Air quality can fluctuate due to agriculture and oil fields; check real-time conditions using the AirNow app before outdoor plans.
- If working remotely, confirm with your hotel that high-speed Wi-Fi and dedicated business workspaces are available. Ask about quiet hours or room locations to help ensure rest and productivity.
- For families, select hotels offering pools or kid-friendly amenities within a short drive (under 10 minutes) of attractions like Kern River Parkway. Request cribs, rollaway beds, or connecting rooms directly with the hotel before arrival.
- Solo travelers should choose hotels with 24-hour staffed desks and visible security measures such as monitored cameras. Use reputable rideshares from the airport, and keep family or friends updated with your travel itinerary.
