Great spot to snorkel, however the dive shop associated with hotel makes it hard to get the free use of gear. If you don¿t have your own gear, you won¿t be able to snorkel. The hotel offers a free introduction to scuba free means $88 pp.

The view is incredible from our room - too bad the blinds were broken so we couldn't see it. Smelled like mold.

Excellent location, I like to be south of the marina for scuba pick-up/drop-off. Beautiful, well maintained outdoor beach and pool facilities. Staff was friendly and accommodating.

It was very conveniently located next to the main venue of the Ironman event.
Room was very very poor. Clean but poor.
You simply had to walk through the lobby, across the sand, down the steps and you could snorkel. Our group actually felt like this was some of the best snorkeling we had in Cozumel

The front desk staff was very kind and helpful. The pool was nice, too. Because it¿s not as close to the very center of town it is quieter and closer to more places locals go - like the supermarket. It¿s about a 15-20 minute walk to the airport.
Close to the airport. Check-in and check-out were easy. Grounds are lovely. Nice pool. Rooms were clean and spacious. Limited option free breakfast. Staff was excellent. English spoken. Great A/C. Great value for price.
Really solid value. It's a pleasant hotel that'clean and well kept. The staff are helpful and friendly. The room had great air conditioning and was very clean. There are a couple of taco restaurants within walking distance and a grocery store close by.

Where to stay in Cozumel
Learn about the top neighbourhoods of Cozumel
There are really two Cozumels. The first is a shopper's haven, and bargain-hunting cruise ship passengers spend hours in the port town of San Miguel strolling along a waterfront promenade lined with charming shops and eateries. The second is a more traditional version of paradise, and this mostly undeveloped island has pristine beaches, isolated lagoons and flower-filled jungles. And the waters are so clear that divers from all over the world come to experience the dazzling coral reefs.

Top Tips
- Book hotels 3 to 6 months ahead for December to April peak season. This timing can secure rates 20% to 40% lower than last-minute bookings in San Miguel, often preventing sellouts during island events. Check local festivals and cruise schedules before booking to avoid overlap with major events.
- Factor in 16% VAT plus 3% hotel occupancy tax, with some properties adding 5% to 10% service fees. Pay in pesos at check-in to avoid 2% to 5% currency conversion surcharges, and ask for a detailed breakdown of charges at check-in.
- Choose hotels in San Miguel for central access, placing you within 1 km (0.6 mi) of ferry docks and shops. This offers 10% to 15% better value than east coast options, though traffic noise is common; request a room facing an inner courtyard for quieter stays.
- Verify Wi-Fi speeds for remote work; hotel Wi-Fi averages 50 to 100 Mbps in San Miguel properties, dropping to 20 to 50 Mbps during storms. Ask if ethernet connections are available if stable Wi-Fi is required for work.
- Use hotel safes to counter petty theft. Store valuables in provided safes, as 70% to 80% of TripAdvisor reports note pickpocketing near tourist spots, reducing loss risks in crowded areas. Carry only essentials when exploring high-traffic tourist areas.
- Request accessibility features in advance. 60% to 70% of hotels have elevators or step-free entrances; verify step-free routes from lobby to dining and pool areas before arrival, especially for beachfront properties to accommodate island terrain.
- Select EarthCheck-certified hotels for eco-stays. These properties enforce reef-friendly practices and offer 10% to 20% rebates for reusable gear rentals, minimizing water use during dry seasons. Inquire about the availability of reusable water bottles or filtered drinking stations.
- Avoid Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) when withdrawing cash. Use ATMs in banks like Bancomer in San Miguel to skip DCC fees of 2% to 5%. Bank ATMs inside major hotels may offer higher withdrawal limits than standalone machines.
- Book the Playa del Carmen ferry for transfers; it takes 35 to 45 minutes and costs approx. $15 to $22 USD (170 to 250 MXN) one-way. Ultramar and Winjet run frequent crossings. Purchase ferry tickets online or at the main pier office for the best rates and schedules.
- Expect cruise ship daytime surges from 09:30 to 16:00. Downtown San Miguel and the cruise pier area get busiest during this time, affecting restaurants, shops, and short-term transfers. Consider booking tours early morning or late afternoon to avoid crowds.
- Plan for hurricane season from June 1 to November 30, with peak risk in September and October. Hotels commonly change cancellation or force majeure policies during this period; confirm terms before paying non-refundable rates. Monitor local weather alerts via Protección Civil Quintana Roo for real-time updates.
- Tap water is not reliably potable; use hotel filtration or bottled jugs. Hotel tap water is generally not recommended for drinking; buy 5L bottled water or ask the hotel for refill service for multi-day stays. If in doubt, brush teeth with bottled water to further minimize risk.
- The electrical standard is 127V, 60Hz, and US Type A/B plugs fit. Bring a compact surge protector or USB charger; larger resorts usually have generators but smaller guesthouses may not during storms. Confirm with your hotel if accessible charging stations are available for guests with medical devices.
- San Miguel downtown has cobblestones and narrow sidewalks. For reduced mobility or heavy luggage, request a ground-floor room or confirm an elevator prior to booking. Notify staff of any mobility needs in advance to arrange priority on ground-floor or accessible rooms.
- Tipping norms are 10% to 15% for restaurants when service is not included. Bellhop, porter, and housekeeping staff typically receive approx. 20 to 50 MXN per service or day. Check your bill, as some restaurants include service charges automatically.
- Decline Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) to avoid 3% to 7% markups. If offered to charge in USD, choose MXN on the terminal to use your card issuer’s exchange rate instead. If unsure, ask the cashier to confirm the amount in MXN before you enter your card PIN.
- Card acceptance varies; large hotels take cards, but small inns and shops prefer pesos. Major resorts accept cards, but small downtown businesses and taxis often work cash only. Small businesses may offer discounts for cash payments - ask before paying.
- Book high season and holiday windows earlier. High season (December to April) plus Semana Santa, Christmas/New Year, and Carnival sell out earlier. Flexible travelers can find more availability by avoiding peak holiday weekends.
- Consider noise and room placement. Rooms facing the cruise pier or Malecon experience daytime crowd noise and excursion pickups; request pool or sea-facing south rooms or specify 'away from pier' for quieter days. Noise-cancelling earplugs are available at most local pharmacies if needed.
- If diving or snorkeling, choose hotels with on-site rinse tanks and early-boat access. Many dive boats depart from San Miguel/Marina areas; choose hotels within 5 to 15 minutes of the main marinas for earlier boat pick-up. Confirm if early breakfast or takeaway packs are included for guests on early dive trips.
