had a store on site which made it terrific
te fact that there was a fenced in area for my furbabies
Even though some sites are very close together, it still remains fairly quiet! Lots of beautiful, huge trees, little qualicum river runs through it! Very serene! Thinking of booking several cabins next year for family get together!

Great location on the beach.
Staff are friendly. Location right on the beach is excellent. Beds were very comfortable. Modern style of room interior is pleasant. Patio area outside our room was nice to sit at and watch the beach. Kitchenette allowed for simple meals to be prepared.
Mid point of the island. By the water. It was clean. Making people walk a block to be able to have a smoke not very good. The cleaning women very polite and friendly,

The location (beach is across the road), the room (modern, clean), the restaurant (outside patio, good food), and the staff (very helpful -- e.g. alerted us to the fact there is a road closure every hour on the highway to Tofino).
A welcoming and efficient staff --and a GREAT studio suite for a family of four.

It is within walking distance to the nice park and downtown location of Nanaimo. Just 5 - 20 minute walk.
Continental b/fast was nice / simple; shower head was powerful which was nice. The staff were very friendly (except one younger man, who seemed bored or put out with everything). Without him, staff would be a 10. Beds: comfortable, clean. A/c- great.

New hotel. Very friendly staff. Comfortable accommodations and clean. Convenient stop off for further travel north or west coast. I'd recommend earplugs. Most hotels are along busy roadways these days.
The staff were so friendly. Every single staff member we interacted with was amazing. The room was fantastic as well, super comfy beds. Everything was clean and just as it should be. The included breakfast was also awesome.

Despite not physically being able to arrive they¿re due to a natural disaster. A landslide closed the only road in the day before my arrival I was charged for my stay anyway.
Its location, docked in Port Alberni's harbor. The very warm and friendly hosts who made us feel at home. And the experience of staying on an old and charming tug boat. Magical and authentic. Not to be missed.

Top Tips
- Book your hotel 4-8 weeks ahead for standard summer weekends in July-August or 8-12 weeks ahead for statutory long weekends. Local festivals or beach events can spike demand, so check Parksville’s event calendar when possible. Most ocean-view and family suites fill first. Many hotels offer flexible cancellation windows, making early booking low-risk if plans change.
- Choose accommodations within 1 km of Rathtrevor Beach or Parksville Beach to keep your walk to low-tide shore access under 15 minutes. This location reduces the need for parking, which is limited on busy days. Ask your hotel if they offer beach gear loans or rentals, and request information on accessible routes if needed.
- Add 30-40 minutes of driving from Nanaimo’s Departure Bay or Duke Point ferry terminals to reach Parksville. Allow for BC Ferries’ sailing and vehicle queue times from the Lower Mainland to ensure you arrive before hotel check-in cutoffs. Reserve BC Ferries sailings during peak periods, and check your hotel’s late check-in policy in case of ferry delays.
- Budget for a 5% federal GST plus a local accommodation or visitor tax, usually 2-3%. Always check your hotel or booking confirmation for the exact total. Use official booking platforms or recognized OTAs to avoid hidden fees. Tax-exempt status is rare and must be arranged in advance if applicable.
- Most Parksville hotels are low-rise, and many ground-floor units have step-free access. Request an accessible room or confirm elevator service when booking if you need ramp access or visual alarms. Call ahead to ask about specific accessibility features or request photos or floor plans if particular aids are required.
- Pet fees typically range from CAD 15 to 40 (about US$11 to $29) per night, with most hotels accepting dogs if notified in advance. Let the property know the size and breed of your pet when you book. Ask if pet-friendly rooms are near green spaces or walking paths, and request details on local leash laws or off-leash parks.
- Traveling in May or September can save you 15-30% compared to peak summer rates, with greater room availability and often milder weather. Always check the hotel’s cancellation policy, as spring and fall weather can be changeable. Many hotels offer indoor pools or hot tubs, and some local dining or attractions may have reduced hours outside peak months.
- Most mid-scale hotels provide on-site parking, but spots can fill quickly during festivals or long weekends. Reserve a parking spot in advance if possible, or ask about overflow lots within 200 m. Accessible parking spaces may be limited and should be requested when booking. If lots are full, consider public transit or walking for local exploration.
