location and price
Absolutely nothing, they're crooks and filthy. They charge almost 90 a night and it was repulsive.
Management/ Owners go above and beyond to help customers. It's next to main road and highway exits. Near frequented shopping areas RE: Sam's, Walmart, Ross, Marshalls, Dollar Tree. Venus Spa, Crafty Crab, Starbucks, etc ..

They have a little topping bar for you to put on your oatmeal or yogurt that contains cookie crumbs, granola, chocolate chips etc.
The hospitality was excellent
I did not stay at this hotel. It is not a 3 star hotel. The management/owner recently purchased the property. They are in a process of making it better. The property was a decrepit old hotel.

The Cardinal is beautiful, comfortable, and welcoming. If you travel with pets, it's the best (+w/no pet fees, it's competitive). There's a free garage behind the building, the rooms and beds are amazing, and the staff is great. Rec room is superb, too.

Top Tips
- Book hotel stays in Winston-Salem at least 60-90 days before major events such as the Winston-Salem Open (late July or early August) or the biennial National Black Theatre Festival (summer) to lower the risk of rate hikes and limited availability. Early booking with leading hotel chains is especially helpful during citywide festivals.
- For central access, select a downtown hotel; most are within a 5-15 minute walk of Old Salem, the arts district, and major museums. Hotels near Hanes Mall or Peters Creek Parkway typically offer free surface parking and are 6-10 miles (15-20 minutes by car) from downtown attractions, making them a practical option for guests who prefer to drive.
- Downtown properties and public garages usually charge for parking, with hotel or city-set rates. Call the hotel directly before booking to confirm daily parking fees or validation options, since these can vary even among national chains; rates typically start at $15 per day.
- If you have appointments at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, call nearby hotels (within 0.5-2 miles) to ask about medical or caregiver rates. Some discounts are not advertised online, so direct contact can help you access special rates for caregivers or extended stays.
- When booking a stay in historic Old Salem, note that many inns occupy converted houses with stairs and may have limited elevator access. Request a step-free accessible room in advance and get written confirmation to ensure your requirements are met.
- Ride-share services such as Lyft and Uber operate from Piedmont Triad International Airport (GSO) to Winston-Salem, but event surges can drive up prices. Compare ride-share rates with fixed-price shuttle or rental car services, particularly during festivals or busy weekends.
- For downtown business travel, hotels commonly provide meeting spaces and early check-in upon request. During high-occupancy periods like university events or festivals, confirm these amenities in writing during booking to avoid last-minute limitations.
- Plan ground transport from Piedmont Triad International Airport (GSO), which is located 26-30 miles (30-45 minutes by car) from Winston-Salem. Public transit is limited, so advance booking of shuttles, ride-shares, or rental cars is recommended, especially for arrivals after 22:00.
