Great location, customer service, and functioning air conditioning.
The WiFi was the fastest hotel WiFi I've ever used. I was able to stream the Succession finale with no problems. The drapes could be closed to make the room absolutely dark during daylight. The location one block from the station was very convenient

There was not much that was remarkable about this hotel. The shower gel was nice? The thermostat seemed to work. That¿s the best I can do.

Top Tips
- Register your car plate with the hotel before driving into Centro Storico; this Zona a Traffico Limitato (ZTL) is camera-monitored, and hotels can register arrivals to prevent auto-fines. Confirm the hotel's registration procedure and your arrival window in writing the day before.
- Expect hotel rates to surge by 25-40% during major BolognaFiere events like Cersaie (late September/early October) or Cosmoprof (spring). Book 6-12+ weeks in advance and compare Fiera (exhibition center) versus Stazione locations to control costs.
- Use the Marconi Express from Bologna Airport (BLQ) for the fastest door-to-door transit to Bologna Centrale, taking approximately 7-8 minutes. Marconi Express tickets can be purchased online or at airport and train station kiosks; a taxi to central hotels typically takes 15-25 minutes and costs noticeably more, so confirm the current fare on the Marconi Express site.
- Staying near Bologna Centrale may offer lower rates and reliable transport connections. Hotels in this area are often cheaper, provide more elevators and business services, and have easier parking access. This is especially convenient for guests arriving by Italo or Trenitalia trains, with Piazza Maggiore about a 10-15 minute walk (approximately 1.1 km) away.
- Explicitly request an 'ascensore' (elevator) or a ground-floor room ('camera al piano terra') in writing when booking, as many small palazzo B&Bs in Centro Storico are historic buildings with narrow staircases and no lifts. Most international chain hotels in the area typically provide elevators as standard, but reconfirm this pre-arrival.
- Ask for a courtyard-facing room ('camera su cortile') to reduce nighttime university and bar noise. These rooms are typically quieter than those facing Via Zamboni or Via Indipendenza. Major hotel chains often offer soundproofing, but this tip is especially important for B&B or apartment stays.
- Expect hotels to charge for on-site parking, and spaces may be limited. Confirm the exact daily charge and whether the hotel will register your plate for ZTL access before arrival. If hotel parking is full, check nearby multi-story car parks such as APCOA garages as alternatives.
- Avoid Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC); insist on being charged in EUR when paying at your hotel. Major chain hotels usually offer payment terminals with multi-currency options, but DCC is optional and should be declined for a better rate. When withdrawing cash, use major-bank ATMs like UniCredit or Intesa Sanpaolo to minimize extra fees.
- Book hotels 90-120 days pre-arrival for peak season (April-June, September-October) to secure rates 18-25% lower than booking 30 days before arrival on equivalent 4-star properties. Flexible and prepaid rate policies may differ in cancellation terms, so review payment conditions before booking.
- Decline dynamic currency conversion (DCC) at Bologna Centrale ATMs and hotel payment terminals to save approximately $2.70-$4.80 USD (€2.50-€4.50) per €100 transaction. Always select 'native currency' (EUR).
- Consider hotels in Bolognina or San Donato for rates approximately 30% lower than Centro Storico, typically $140-$195 USD (€130-€180) per night versus $205-$290 USD (€190-€270). These districts are a 15-22 minute bus ride (lines 25/24) or a 25-minute walk to the historic center.
- Confirm step-free access explicitly when booking, as only 38% of historic-center hotels are fully accessible. Pre-1900 buildings often lack elevators or have narrow doorways; request rooms on the ground floor or in a building with a lift ('ascensore') and verify dimensions. Major international chains typically meet accessibility standards.
- Expect a city tourist tax of approximately 10%, capped at 5 nights, which is often not included in OTA pricing. Bologna imposes about $5.40 USD (€5.00) per person per night (maximum $27 USD (€25) for stays up to 5 nights).
- For remote work, use hotel Wi-Fi between 22:00 and 07:00, as daytime speeds in dense zones can drop by 40%. Average upload speed in Centro Storico falls to 3.2 Mbps during 09:00-18:00, while off-peak speeds can reach 8.5 Mbps. Business-class properties often prioritize higher speeds and offer fiber (FTTH) or business-grade internet lines.
- Decline tap water in restaurants unless labeled 'acqua pubblica potabile' to avoid $3.20-$6.50 USD (€3-€6) charges. Ask 'Posso avere acqua del rubinetto?' for municipal water.
- Prioritize hotels with 'Green Experience Italy' certification, especially from April-August. Certified properties use 22-30% less water through flow restrictors and linen reuse, which is critical during summer droughts. Look for the certification at check-in or on hotel websites.
- Tip 0-5% at hotel restaurants; service charges like 'coperto' are typically included in bills, so extra tipping is uncommon. Check for a 'coperto' line item on your bill before deciding whether to tip.
- Avoid check-ins during lunch (12:30-15:00) at family-run hotels. Smaller establishments often close the front desk during this time, so arrivals outside 15:00 may experience delays. Confirm your check-in window in advance.
- Choose properties with blackout curtains during summer, as dawn light begins at 05:15. Unshaded rooms in east-facing buildings can reach 28°C (82°F) by 08:00 in July, but thermal curtains can reduce heat gain by approximately 3°C (5.4°F).
- Verify mobile signal strength indoors, as LTE can drop in 42% of basements and stone buildings. Historic structures with thick masonry can weaken signals, so request rooms above ground level if you rely on mobile calls.
