That it was an unexpected excellent choice that night. Loved the hard flooring! Loved the room trim and paint. It just so simple and nice for that or those one to two night stays. I would stop there again, no doubt about that. Professional staff.

It was different and fun and elegant. It is an old mansion turned into a hotel. It didn't have the look or feel of a hotel at all. Our stay was perfect.

Staff n location
In all sense of the word this place is a dump! then they had the nerve to charge my card for an additional 150.00 without authorization. I will never go there again and I am reporting them to the better business bureau.
The pictures made it look great . It was dirty and creepy. Was very disappointed that we got this hotel. The blinds in bathroom were broken and filthy. The bed covers had things in it from another person. It was more like a 1*

Top Tips
- Reserve your hotel at least 4 to 6 weeks in advance if visiting Salinas for peak events like the California Rodeo (mid-July), as local room rates may rise 25% or more and sell out fast. For alternate nearby stays, consider Monterey or Marina, both within a 25-minute drive.
- Compare rates by calling hotels directly; many in Salinas include complimentary amenities such as breakfast or parking, sometimes not listed on third-party sites. Ask about member or loyalty offers for additional value.
- Confirm your total nightly cost with tax before booking. California hotels typically add a 12-14% transient occupancy tax plus $15-40 nightly resort or pet fees depending on property.
- Check Salinas’ official events calendar for major happenings like the October California International Airshow or Steinbeck Festival to avoid traffic surges and fully explore local attractions that week. Adjust your travel dates for better availability if needed.
- Select hotels that offer free cancellation or changes up to 24-48 hours before check-in. Flexible policies are common among top chains in Salinas and support changes due to unforeseen local events or weather.
- Bring a government-issued photo ID and the credit card used for booking; hotels require these for check-in and a refundable deposit of $50-100 for incidentals.
- If your arrival or departure time varies, request early check-in or late check-out. Most hotels in Salinas offer luggage storage in secure areas starting from 07:00.
- Request a room on an upper floor and away from elevators, street fronts, or ice machines to minimize noise, especially near Highway 68 or Monterey Street. Confirm specific room locations when booking for more restful nights.
- Business travelers should verify reliable high-speed Wi-Fi, as most hotels offer at least 25 Mbps plus 24-hour business center access with printing and scanning. Confirm service details at check-in.
- Plan your transportation in advance. Monterey-Salinas Transit bus service runs limited evening schedules, and rideshare wait times average 10-15 minutes during peak events. Consider reserving a rental car for greater flexibility in the Salinas Valley.
- Check if your hotel includes free parking and on-site EV charging; parking fees can reach $15 per night in central Salinas, and charger availability may be limited during large events.
- Consult the front desk for current local walking or taxi recommendations. Major hotels are within 0.5 to 2 miles of downtown and can call safe, licensed transportation services upon request.
- Choose hotels in well-lit areas with 24-hour staff if you’ll be out after dark. For added security, keep valuables in a room safe and confirm camera coverage in hotel parking lots. Check whether hotel exterior doors require key card access after 21:00 for additional safety.
- Lock your vehicle and hide valuables, parking in lighted hotel lots. Auto break-ins increase during event weekends, and many hotels provide overnight security on busy nights.
- Follow U.S. tipping practices: $1-2 per bag for bell staff, $2-5 for valet, and $2-5 per night for housekeeping, placing tips in an envelope or on the pillow as is customary in Salinas hotels.
- Salinas hotel staff often speak both English and Spanish. Use clear, polite requests at check-in to help speed service, especially during bilingual interactions.
- Carry vital medications and prescriptions in your hand luggage. International visitors should review supplemental travel health insurance requirements. U.S. pharmacies are typically open 08:00–20:00 locally.
- Families should confirm at booking if cribs, connecting rooms, or children’s breakfast discounts are available. Most Salinas hotels offer at least one child-friendly amenity, and pools are typically seasonal, open May to September.
- Solo travelers seeking safety can prioritize hotels with 24-hour desk service and review recent guest safety ratings. If noise is an issue, request upper-floor rooms away from parking lots and entrances.
- For accessibility, request ADA-accessible rooms, including roll-in showers or step-free access, when booking. Confirm feature availability with hotel staff at least 48 hours before arrival, as not all hotels have these in every room type. Ask about service animal accommodations and gender-neutral restroom access if required.
- Ask hotel staff for assistance reserving popular tours or tickets, such as visits to the National Steinbeck Center or Salinas Valley wineries, which may require booking 2 to 3 weeks ahead in peak season. Some hotels feature local art in lobbies or offer agricultural tour packages; inquire about current onsite offerings.
- Inquire about local cuisine. Salinas is known for its fresh produce and Mexican or seafood restaurants within 1 mile of central hotels. Many offer lists of recommended nearby eateries or regional specialties at breakfast. Ask about local farmers' markets such as Oldtown Salinas Farmers' Market (Saturdays, 9:00 to 14:00, 0.5 mile from downtown).
- Late arrivals, after 20:00, should expect limited restaurant options in Salinas. Stock up on snacks or verify if your hotel offers 24-hour vending or in-room microwaves for reheating food.
- During major Salinas events, parking lots fill as early as one hour before start times. Arrive early or confirm if your hotel provides a scheduled shuttle, as schedules may vary, especially on weekends. Many hotels participate in sustainability programs, offer recycling bins, or have water bottle refill stations for eco-conscious travelers. Ask about digital check-in or mobile key availability for quicker arrival.
