Top Tips
- Secure better rates by booking hotels 6–12 weeks before the Flowertown Festival (first weekend in April), as central Summerville rooms frequently sell out early. Check festival dates annually, as rates often increase within 48 hours of the event start. Many hotels offer free cancellation until 24 hours before arrival, so review policies during festival planning.
- Choose Historic Downtown hotels for walkable access to shops and restaurants (0.2-0.6 miles); top chains like Hilton and Marriott operate in the area. For newer facilities and more on-site parking, explore Nexton or I-26 corridors, typically within 2.5-6 miles of downtown. Confirm amenity access such as gym, pool, and step-free entry when booking newer hotels.
- Expect to drive between most Summerville attractions, as public transit is limited. Downtown Summerville to Charleston’s historic district via I-26 averages 30-40 minutes (18-22 miles) in typical traffic. Ask if hotels provide free or discounted parking and EV charging for flexibility and sustainable travel.
- Charleston International Airport (CHS) is 18-25 miles from Summerville, with typical transfer times of 25-35 minutes. Ride-shares and taxis serve the area; confirm flat-rate fares before leaving the terminal. ADA-accessible airport shuttles are available by request; book early for accessible transfers.
- Rooms at hotels along I-26 or Dorchester Road experience steady traffic noise, especially on lower floors. Request an inner-facing or courtyard room during booking to minimize noise disruption. Many chains offer soundproofing and accessible room types; request these directly if needed.
- Nexton/I-26 chain hotels commonly include free parking and continental breakfast; check if these amenities are included when booking. Historic Downtown B&Bs may charge about $15-25 per night for parking; verify availability in advance. Ask about accessible parking, luggage holding, or late check-out if flexibility is important.
- Summerville summers (June-September) are hot and humid with frequent afternoon storms. Prioritize rooms with strong air conditioning and consider higher floors, which can help avoid humidity-related noise and insects near parks after rain. Guests with health needs or reduced mobility should request accessible rooms or advanced temperature control.
- Summerville’s tap water is safe to drink municipality-wide unless posted otherwise by your property. Bottled water is optional; travelers with sensitivities can verify with the front desk. Ice machines and in-room kettles use tap water; check in-room signage for water use details, especially if visiting from abroad.
