Coastal view room with balcony
Shuttle to downtown Coronado
While the room was nice and for the most part clean, there was a bunch of cobwebs on the window when we went to open it so that was unexpected. The bed was very comfortable.

Cool old school hotel with modern amenities.
We really enjoyed our stay. The rooms were good size, as well as having two full bathrooms. I prefer premium bedding, but the beds were ok. Lots of staff around and all very friendly. Breakfast was great and the location was perfect.

Location was great. Walking distance to beach and to several good restaurants. Bed was very comfortable. Kitchen was well stocked with just about anything one would need to cook at the hotel if one didnâ≢t want to go out. Uber only 20.00 from airport.
Location is great! Lots of options for food. Close to the beach. Beautiful Del Coronado Hotel across the street. Close to hop on hop off trolley that will take you in to San Diego multiple stops or the bus. Bike to use. Hotel employee at the desk was awesome.

Did not like parking or that I had to walk across major road and had to call to find the office to check in.Staff wasn't great, charging extra for service dogs. Clean but beds were not great
We asked for early check in but were declined. We then came back to check in at the scheduled time and we received our keys but the room hadn¿t even been cleaned yet???? The poor cleaning girl had to rush it while we waited outside. We waited an hour????
Location!! Very close to wharf and restaurants. Check in staff, very friendly. Staff was at a different location, which was odd, no phone in room to contact in case of emergency (we didn't have one). Easy parking.

There was an employee that worked at the restaurant downstairs that provided stellar service.
Great location 2 blocks from Petco and across street from Convention Center. Tons of great entertainment. Highly recommended if looking for nice play to stay close to all the Gaslamp/Downtown activities.

The rooms (king) are smallish but you are in downtown and it seemed more friendly than the courtyard several blocks away. Standard Marriott mattress! I liked the small couch next to the window. They offered free breakfast as a titanium member

I loved the concept, having an efficiency run by something other than the big hotel chains. It was easy to reserve, it was clean, well equipped and the experience of having it in the heart of the Gaslight area of San Diego was super!
I didn¿t really like anything.
The location was great, right in the heart of the Gaslamp area. The layout of the unit was awesome- bedroom at one end and kitchen and TV/sleeper sofa at the other. Kitchen was well equipped with everything you need¿and great coffee!

Top Tips
- Book 4 to 8 weeks in advance for peak Coronado hotel seasons (June-August, holidays, major events), as landmark properties such as Hotel del Coronado fill quickly and rates may rise by 30% or more. Monitor event calendars and compare nightly rates frequently for your travel dates.
- Check for extra nightly charges such as parking (typically $30-$60) and mandatory resort fees ($40-$60 per night) at each property; these cover amenities like Wi-Fi and beach access, but are billed separately from taxes.
- Choose between staying near Coronado Central Beach for fast water access or on Orange Avenue (450-800 m from the shore) for dining and shopping. Most hotels offer onsite bike rentals for easy exploration of the 2-mile-wide island. Many larger hotels also provide accessible rooms and step-free access in public areas; verify specific accessibility needs before booking.
- Tipping in Coronado hotels follows US standards: Bellhops ($1-$5 per bag), valet ($3-$5 per retrieval), and housekeepers ($2-$5 per night). For concierge service, tip $5-$20 depending on the request; keep small bills handy for convenience.
- Pack layers for Coronado’s coastal microclimate. Ocean breezes keep evenings cool (60-65°F/16-18°C), even when daytime highs exceed 75°F (24°C). Bring a light jacket and use sun protection during midday hours.
- Most Coronado hotels require a government-issued photo ID and the credit card used for booking; minimum check-in age varies, often 18 or 21. Verify your hotel's exact requirements before arrival.
- Swim only between lifeguard flags at Coronado Central Beach, as rip currents may occur, especially in summer. Smoking is not allowed on most public beaches; check posted rules. Closely supervise children at the beach, as lifeguard coverage hours can vary seasonally.
- Respect Coronado’s quiet hours, usually 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM, due to residential zoning. Local enforcement includes citations for noise or illegal street parking; review parking signs and property rules before you settle in.
- Ask about family extras such as cribs, rollaway beds, and kids’ menus when booking. Many hotels loan sand toys or list specific pool lifeguard hours, and you can request accessible or allergy-friendly amenities for children.
- Coronado is generally safe for solo travelers. Keep valuables in your room safe and use hotel-arranged transport for late-night travel. Staying within 1 mile of Orange Avenue ensures quicker access to restaurants and ferry services.
- For pet stays, check your hotel’s pet fee (often $50-$150 per stay) and restrictions (typically under 40 lbs, up to 2 pets). Coronado offers a dedicated off-leash dog beach; review posted signs for leash rules. Certified service animals are accommodated by law regardless of pet policy.
- Military activity near Naval Base Coronado may cause traffic or affect public access to some areas; expect noise from exercises, primarily on weekdays. Always respect restricted zones; entry without proper ID is not permitted. Check local traffic advisories if major events or exercises are scheduled.
- Expect a 10.5% Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) on every Coronado hotel booking, which is added to your final bill in accordance with local ordinance.
- Plan airport and city transit carefully: Rideshares and taxis to San Diego International (SAN) typically take 20-35 minutes, but bridge traffic can cause delays. MTS Bus Route 901 and the Coronado Ferry (15-minute crossing from Broadway Pier) are public transit options; check current timetables for schedule updates.
- Use your hotel concierge for dining tips, activity suggestions, and current recommendations on seasonal events. Request tour or restaurant reservations at least 2 to 3 days ahead during busy times.
- Before booking, read up-to-date guest reviews on major sites. Check for consistent feedback concerning cleanliness, staff service, street noise, and accuracy of amenities. Report any pattern of missed service to the property.
- Contact your hotel ahead of arrival for luggage storage if you arrive early or depart late. For quieter rooms, request a high floor; if you need step-free or elevator-served access, most full-service hotels can provide it, but confirm availability directly with the property.
- You may explore Hotel del Coronado’s public spaces, shops, and restaurants even if not a guest; its Victorian architecture dates to 1888. Guided history tours are available for a fee, and it is wise to book at least 24 hours ahead in peak summer.
