    Traveling as a Couple
    Superb
We loved being away from the city, walking in the woods, enjoying the stars at night. We went for morning and sunset walks each day. The staff were excellent. Very friendly and the food was great. I’m vegetarian and my wife is vegan, and they had plenty of options for us. They were also excellent with our dog!!

    Traveling as a Solo Traveler
    Remote lakeside rustic accomodation
The staff are fantastic-- friendly and helpful. The food is delicious and beautifully presented (pictures included) with lots of options even for me, a vegetarian. The included breakfast was simple, but sufficient with great coffee and the option of add-ons. The tent was spacious and comfortable with an actual bed, nice lights hanging outside, a place to plug things in and a place to sit right outside your own tent (pictures included). The area where the four permanent tents are have a common area, swing and groomed paths (pictures included). The views from the main building and eating area are spectacular (pictures included). The path from the tents to the main house is a nice walk. The kayaks and paddle boat rentals are easy and a fun activity (pictures included). There is lakeside restaurant that you can walk along the lake to or paddle to for another option for a drink or lunch. While blasting music is a Dominican staple, the neighbors are far enough away that the music was not disturbing and the only other sounds are the farm animals, birds and frogs. The communication was excellent and all costs and fees very transparent. I found the costs of food and rentals to be very reasonable.
The shared bathroom was awful (pictures included). One dilapidated toilet in the women's was on a room with a broken door. There was zero privacy on both the men's and women's showers. It was a clear view from outside to the showers. The sinks in the women's were broken, crawling with ants and had no soap. There was no warm water, which is easily done with a roof tank that heats in the sun. A clean bathroom with doors and shower curtains should not be a luxury. My favorite shower in the world was open air at a backpackers in Botswana--it does not have to be fancy, but clean and private are basic, especially for $50+ a night. I was glad I had a flashlight because after dark, if you must go to the bathroom or to your car, the paths are not lit. There were some solar powered lanterns meant to be stuck in the ground and would be perfect to simply mark the path, but there were not enough and those that were there were mostly not working. I was a little surprised that there were not more walking trails in the area. I was hoping to do a short day hike, but after about 3km, I had exhausted the trails, and when I walked up the road within the gated area, I was attacked by the neighbors dogs-- I was not bitten, but they were growling, barking and chased me away, which was terrifying and unexpected since I was just walking on what I thought was the private road of the resort. There were multiple hornets nests hanging on the roof over my tent. I realize this is nature, but hornets can be dangerous and ruin a vacation. They can be humanely relocated to the woods. When I mentioned this, there was no concern. I have paid much less for entire apartments on the beach, so the fact that this was a tent with a shared bathroom in the middle of nowhere, I did not find it a good value. If you are looking to get away from the city and have some peace and quiet, it is definitely a good option, but there is not a lot to do.
