Hotel Rutherbach

If you prefer to stay outside of the city, then this hotel is just a perfect choice. it is small, but cosy with home-like feeling right by the cycling path. Staff was communicative and trying to make your stay pleasant.

The mattress on the bad could have been changed. It has already been worn out.

Family run hotel, everyone we came in contact with was very friendly and welcoming. Due to our travel situation we requested a check-in outside of the normal hours that was easily accommodated with a smile. Typical German breakfast was perfect, everything was fresh and tasty. It's an old building and it shows but the rooms were nicely decorated and charming. We will certainly book again on our next trip to Essen.

It was horrible from the moment it was booked. Problems getting back from the host. They would answer one question but not most.It says they speak English but this is limited.On arrival the reception was closed. We had no warning of this but luckily my phone still had some battery left so able to phone. On phoning the man informed me it was a safety box and told me the password but this wouldn’t have happened if I’d no charge on phone. Getting to the room it was stuffy and hot. No fans were provided to help the air circulate. It was 30 degrees on arrival.No kettle was provided and lamps were positioned far away from power points. There was a stale odour. The cupboard in the room was old and when trying to put things away the handle fell off. In the morning breakfast was disappointing hard bread and a few bits of cooked meat and cheese. No fruit put out. Even though the hotel was almost empty we were threatened with an extra charge, even though we were out of our room by 11:06. On checking out they added an extra €5 for my daughter as I had mistakenly put her in as a 1 year old but she was 15. This would’ve been ok had she been able to eat anything more than a bowl of cereal. I had booked the room for three people so that was needed.Location is appalling, on a busy road. No sleep was had by any of our party.When checking out I raised these issues and the receptionist said she had been kind. I’m not sure that we share the same understanding of kind. I paid £130 for her to be kind.

Breakfast was ok. Bed was comfortable. Shower was ok. Loved the shower gel. Restaurant net door was convenient (not it was not open Monday night).

One of the rooms smelt musty and needed airing. The furniture in the other room was old and wobbly. At times the planes landing into Dusseldorf airport was continuous, it did stop at night.

Cozy and very clean room, kind staff

Staff were friendly and welcoming. Room was just what was needed for 2 people. Breakfast was ideal and at 5 Euros each morning, it started the day perfectly. Continental style, but good choice too.Restaurant behind the hotel was great too, lovely lunch there. With not much around, but a small village close by, it was goo access for a lunchtime.

Great place, room was very spacious and very clean, breakfast was good and staff were very friendly.

Avoid, would not stay again.

Absolutely overpriced for what you get. Compares to an old youth hostel. You'll hear everything from what's happening around you as if it's happening in your room. Had trouble finding rest.

The hotel is very clean, the staff is friendly and helpful, and the location is idyllic in a beautiful area with access to Essen and the surrounding towns.

Do not believe what is advertised on the picture, our rooms were old and used furnitures.On the 2nd floor with 3 kids and no lift! Stairs abrupt.Our rooms were not well cleaned. Some pieces left from previous guests makes you wonder what is actually wiped or not. Check in only between 3pm to 7pm is not helping much. First time I see this short timeframe for a hotel.

Cleanliness

Spacious. Clean. Friendly staff. Children were intrigued with the safari themed decorations!

A clean and well maintained property, excellent service and good hosts. The location is sublime, you can walk along the river for a nice hike or take the car and do a citytrip.

Nice, very clean and comfortable hotel for a stopover. Friendly service. We had a family room under the roof, which was very spacious. The beds were great.

The hotel is squeezed in between a pretty well frequented road, train tracks and I believe I heard air planes as well. I'm not very noise sensitive but light sleepers might want to pack ear plugs. Breakfast was very nicely presented but there were no eggs and no fruit. We would have gladly paid a bit extra for that.

The rooms are quite and comfortable. The staff we met during breakfast in the morning is friendly and helpful.

We spent the time without any connection of Wifi, as was planned and agreed when we booked the hotel. The internet suddenly worked on the last evening after many people have left, so it seems there was a capacity issue not allowing our internet to be active. This situation has resulted in paying additional cost of internet to be able to work in the hotel - we believe it is fair that we are compensated for such issue, as it was promised but not delivered as expected.
