Clean hotel with very friendly and hospitable staff. Great experience for the price. Would happily book again for future trips
The hotel is very close to Otsuka station (1-3 minute walk) which has a lot to offer and is right on the JR Yamanote line. They also offer early check-in/late check out-out for up to 3 hours at an additional ¥3,000 per hour which is extremely helpful!

Staff were incredible, room was good size and bed was comfortable.
All was good here for a typical smallish Tokyo hotel room. All regular amenities provided.
Very close to all the sights in Ikebukuro! The staff made check in very easy, and they let us store our baggage there before check in. After check in, they had told us our baggage was already in the room.

Top Tips
- Book hotel rooms 2-4 months in advance for peak seasons like autumn foliage (October) or Mount Fuji climbing (July-August) to secure lower rates and availability, as peak dates see 20-40% price surges. Reserve early to compare options.
- Factor in Japan’s standard 10% consumption tax plus 5-10% service fees, which may not appear in initial hotel quotes. Confirm these add-ons at booking to avoid surprise 15-20% increases in your total cost.
- Hotels within a 5-10 minute walk of Lake Kawaguchi provide easy shuttle access and low crime rates (under 1 incident per 1,000 visitors annually). Use secure, well-lit paths when returning after dark.
- Wi-Fi speeds at modern hotels typically reach 50-100 Mbps; older ryokans may provide 20-40 Mbps, which supports video calls. On arrival, test your connection if remote work is required.
- Credit cards are widely accepted at hotels, but decline dynamic currency conversion onsite to avoid 2-5% markups. Withdraw cash at bank-affiliated ATMs to reduce each transaction fee to 200-300 JPY (about $15).
- About 60% of hotels near Lake Kawaguchi offer step-free access, especially newer builds. Specify accessibility needs at booking, as traditional ryokans often lack elevators or ramps.
- Hotels with official Green Hotel certification (10-15% in Kawaguchi) adopt water-saving policies and reusable amenities. Verify certifications at check-in for summer stays to support sustainable tourism.
- From December to February, snow can accumulate 10-20 cm around Kawaguchi. Pack winter footwear and choose hotels with floor heating or heated lobby areas, since closures affect roads by the lake 5-10 days yearly.
- Mount Fuji view rooms during cherry blossom (late March-early April) and autumn foliage (October-November) seasons cost 30-50% more. Reserve at least 6 months ahead for select lakeside hotels.
- Add 150-300 JPY (approx. $15) per guest per night to your budget for the required local 'onsen tax' if your hotel offers communal hot spring baths. Check the fee during booking.
- Hotels near Kawaguchiko Station, the local bus and sightseeing hub, reduce your reliance on taxis or infrequent rural buses. Choose accommodations within a 10-minute walk to simplify transfers.
- ATMs are available at post offices and 7-Eleven stores. Many restaurants, souvenir shops, and some buses in Kawaguchi accept cash only, so carry local currency in small denominations for convenience.
- Ryokans often charge 50-100% of the stay as a cancellation or no-show fee if you cancel within 2-3 days of arrival. Review terms in advance, as refund windows vary by property.
- Hotels such as Konansou or Kukuna with unobstructed Mount Fuji views see 40-60% price hikes for peak cherry blossom (October-November) and clear-sky (January-February) seasons. Booking 90+ days in advance increases your options.
- 'Onsen authenticity' is signified by a gold plaque at reception. Only about three properties in Kawaguchi, including Mizno Hotel, use 100% natural hot springs. Look for this marker before booking.
- A 1,500 JPY/day (approx. $15) Kawaguchiko Retro Bus pass connects most hotels, Fuji-Q Highland, and Chureito Pagoda. Utilizing the pass can save up to 50% versus two local taxi rides.
- Hotel rates increase 30-50% on Fridays and Saturdays due to Tokyo day-trippers, especially near Fuji-Q Highland. Book midweek stays for quieter onsens and savings.
- Traditional ryokans like Fujikawaguchiko Onsen Konansou require guests to remove shoes at the entrance and may only supply slippers up to size US 10. Pack your own slippers for larger sizes or extra comfort.
- Shared airport transfers from Narita or Haneda, like Keisei Bus (4,000 JPY/approx. $15), avoid 2+ hour waits and costly 25,000 JPY (approx. $15) private taxis. Reserve transport online to guarantee seats.
- At lakeside hotels such as Hotel Mt. Fuji, rooms above the 5th floor offer unobstructed Mount Fuji views. Lower floors may face parking lots or streets; request your preferred floor at the time of booking.
- About 30% of traditional inns accept only domestic IC cards or cash. Using PayPay or withdrawing 20,000-30,000 JPY (approx. $15) from 7-Eleven ATMs (220 JPY per withdrawal) covers most payments.
- Some hotels, such as Kawaguchiko Hotel, offer free rental of winter gear or hiking poles for Mount Fuji trails, which can save 3,000-5,000 JPY (approx. $15 to $15) in rental costs. Inquire at the front desk.
- Humidity in July-August reduces Fuji visibility by 60-70%, so choose September or April for clearer skies at open-air onsens. Confirm seasonal hours and views before booking.
- Rates at guesthouses are 15-25% lower midweek than during weekends. Search for Monday-Thursday stays to benefit from these savings.
- Hotels near Kawaguchi Station cost 30-40% less than those at Narita Airport and are 10-15 minutes by express train from Tokyo. Choose these for value and commute efficiency.
- Over 90% of stays in Kawaguchi are hotels or ryokans because of local restrictions on short-term rentals. Confirm available options if you prefer private lodging.
- Cherry blossom season rates (March-April) surge 100-200%. Booking at least 6 months ahead secures better pricing and a wider room selection.
- IC card payments, such as ICOCA, can yield 5-10% discounts at chains like Toyoko Inn. Ask your hotel if this payment method applies before check-in.
- Only about 40% of hotels built before 2010 have full step-free access. To verify ramp or elevator availability, call your chosen hotel ahead if you require accessibility features.
- Roughly 20% of traditional ryokans do not accept cards and ATMs are scarce beyond city centers. Withdraw cash in advance at 7-Eleven ATMs, which offer lower fees.
- Plan ahead for dietary needs, since many ryokans’ Kaiseki courses use gluten, soy, or shellfish. Contact your accommodation in advance to request allergen-free meals.
- Over 80% of 3-star and above hotels provide free luggage storage or pickup to Kawaguchi Station. Confirm this service at booking for onward travel convenience.
- Wi-Fi at mid-range hotels averages 20-30 Mbps, and up to 50 Mbps at business hotels, supporting most work or streaming. Ask hotel staff for Wi-Fi login details at check-in.
