It was conveniently located
Originally booked 1bed room but that was upstairs which I could not climb because of a knee operation so they gave me a 2 bedroom on ground floor for the same price as a 1 bedroom.
Very friendly staff

Great view of the water. The room was large and had great sitting areas separate from the bedroom.

Cleanliness
Rustic but nice and clean. Cottages were spaced far enough apart that we did not hear our neighbours. Although I gave the staff 10/10, we didn't meet any staff. Key pickup/drop off was pre-arranged, but the emails from the staff were thorough and helpful.
Amazing value for money. We absolutely loved the room and it was so comfortable and clean, with plenty equipment.

Beautiful view from your back deck. Price was very fair.
The room, itself was very well appointed. Clean and bright with everything we needed. It made up for the rough exterior and parking situation .

Top Tips
- Book Sydney hotels 2-4 months in advance for the Celtic Colours festival (early to mid-October), as Cape Breton accommodations often reach full occupancy. Compare options early to secure your preferred amenities and accessibility features.
- Expect a 15% Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) on nightly hotel rates in Nova Scotia. To avoid surprises, review the final 'total' amount on your booking confirmation for the fully inclusive price.
- Sydney/J.A. Douglas McCurdy Airport (YQY) is 15 km (9.3 mi) from downtown; taxis typically cost CAD 35-45 (approximately $26-33 USD) for the 18-25 minute ride. Confirm taxi or shuttle fares before travel, especially during peak events.
- Rent a car to explore Cape Breton, as major attractions like Baddeck (45-60 minute drive) and the Cabot Trail (1.5-3+ hours from Sydney) require private transport with limited public transit options. Top hotels in Sydney can provide parking; confirm at booking.
- When booking heritage B&Bs or small inns, specifically request 'ground-floor/no-step' or accessible rooms, as many older properties have stairs and limited elevator access. Large hotel chains often guarantee step-free access and elevator service; verify your requirements in advance.
- Check hotel Wi-Fi speeds if you'll need more than 25 Mbps for video calls; outside downtown Sydney, rural areas may have patchy Wi-Fi and cell coverage. Ask hotels to confirm bandwidth availability at your preferred property.
- Most Sydney hotels include free onsite parking, but large events can shift lots to paid or overflow status. Verify parking details in your booking confirmation and inquire about accessible parking if needed.
- Hotel prices in Sydney may surge up to 35% during July-August. Booking at least 3 months ahead often secures better rates and wider room selection, especially for accessible or family-sized rooms.
- Some hotels in Sydney charge CAD 12-18 (approximately $9-13 USD) per night for parking. Compare properties just outside the core or those listing free onsite parking for potential savings.
- Expect Sydney hotel Wi-Fi to deliver around 50-80 Mbps, generally suitable for video calls and streaming. If you require higher speeds, verify Wi-Fi capacity directly with your hotel.
- Around 60-70% of Sydney hotels offer step-free entry or ramp access; always specify your accessibility needs during booking to ensure the hotel prepares for your arrival.
- During December to February, coastal storms can cause 5-10 brief power outages per season. Confirm your hotel has backup generators to keep heating reliable in winter.
- Withdraw cash from Scotiabank ATMs for lower fees (CAD 2-5, or approximately $1.50-3.70 USD). Decline dynamic currency conversion to avoid 2-4% extra per transaction.
- Downtown hotels within 1 km of Sydney port fill quickly and can be 30-50% more expensive during June-August cruise season. For port events, book 4-6 weeks ahead to maximize room and amenity options.
- For a quieter stay, choose North End downtown hotels (such as near Wentworth Park), which average 2-3 times fewer weekend noise complaints than south-end properties near Charlotte Street's nightlife.
- Between May and October, parking may cost CAD 10-15 ($7-11 USD) nightly at hotels; check if your property offers free street permits or note that parking is often free in winter.
- Some hotels partner with local events. Look for bundled offers during July's Lobster Fest or Celtic music nights at Old Triangle Pub to save up to 20% compared to separate bookings.
- Currency exchange at hotels is 5-8% less favorable than at local banks. CIBC and Scotiabank ATMs downtown typically charge CAD 3-5 (approximately $2.20-3.70 USD) less per withdrawal than hotel concierges.
