    Pros +

    • The Japanese course meals were amazing as well as the views of Mt. Fuji. The private onsen was a dream. We stayed two nights and were able to see Mt. Fuji un obstructed every day if our stay. The hitel staff were fantastic.
    • Food was delicious
    • The location is stunningly beautiful!! Right on the lake, surrounded by mountains! We stayed only one night and rented the private onsen room. I have never felt so relaxed in my life. Traditional ryokan tatami floors, amazing vistas. The onsen is fed by the mountain hot springs. Stepping into the water immediately released all my tension. The food was phenomenal. We had lunch (a limited menu), kaiseki dinner (a multi-course array of fresh fish - had barracuda for the first time - and veggies and meats). Get up early and watch the sun rise over the mountains and lake; it’ll change your perspective on life. This was a top experience and I highly recommend!!!

    Cons -

    • Meals were served in a room that felt like a cafeteria. It had no ambiance
    • If you have back problems, the futon mats can be difficult to sleep on all night long.
    • The food menu is very rigid and my two kids were starving.

Great location, free shuttle bus, onsen and room is very comfortable

The food menu is very rigid and my two kids were starving.

Quiet, beautiful scenery, traditional vibe, spacious room. Delicious breakfast.

Room 201 needs curtain for the window by the entrance bathroom for privacy purpose. No restaurant choices, need to go to Motohakone. Kaiseki dinner (included) portion is small.

Was a nice ryokan. Food was good and onsen was decent. Rooms were a good size but I would exceed 4 in one

A more small things so I wont really note them.. if anything I have to complain for is that booking does not differentiate the diner tiers so some of my friends are like kings while some didn’t.

It’s a beautiful property with lovely staff.

It’s very old - but very comfortable. Had everything we needed. Would love to have a little bit more flexibility about the food for the kids.

We visited in January for a mother daughter trip. We had a third floor room with a stunning view of the lake. We were very fortunate to get gorgeous views of Mt Fuji too. We enjoyed the traditional feel of the room. Highlight was an early morning outdoor onsen and watching the sunrise reflected on Mt Fuji. We love exploring Japanese food and enjoyed the dinner and breakfast. Dressing in the yukata added to the experience. Overall a very positive stay.

The service for our dinner was quite rushed and took away from our experience. The bathrooms are dated but very clean. Not a big impact for us.

Located near the lake and a fair view of Fuji

A little out dated but, was fine. I wished booking.com would differentiate the difference in the dinner provided by the hotel. Because while my friends had mega meals I got the eco meal and booking .com didn’t differentiate that.

Great location just by the lake and great view in the rooms.

Food quality has space to improve

Exceptional views of the mountain, Japanese style room and amenities, friendly staff, delicious food

    I absolutely loved everything

    8GabrielaPosted on: 11-26-2025

The view was amazing. Lake and Fuji. The vibe is very old school Japanese, the staff is super friendly, the grounds are peaceful. We got an in-room massage and it was incredible!!! Honestly so great - long time pros!

A bit far from any town, but they have shuttles, so really not too bad, but something not too convenient. And it was really quite dated - but they upkeep it nicely and considering where you are and the kind of place, it wasn’t a huge bother, but definitely noticeable. Some upgrades could benefit it a lot. And the food was very mid… we had dinner, and it was like, let’s just eat to nourish ourselves, but we didn’t exactly enjoy it, and a bit expensive for that experience, but again… you are where you are and it’s not the worst thing when you piece it all together.

The location on Lake Ashi is gorgeous. The entrance of the building is lovely as is the lobby.

The rooms and facilities are very dated….our bathroom looked like it was from the 1970s. The onsens were extremely disappointing and small. Almost nothing outside. Also, we didn’t make a reservation for dinner, and were told there was literally nothing to eat anywhere - no restaurants around (even though my research indicated there were plenty of restaurants and this wouldn’t happen), but we could walk 30 minutes in the rain to the small town to see if we could find something. The staff eventually found something for us, but it was still incredible that they said that was our fate. At more than US$550/night without any meals, I expected more. The bed was also extremely hard and uncomfortable- more so than any I’ve experienced in Asia. We later went to the Hotel Kogure in Shibukawa, Gunma, which was much better and is one I would highly recommend.

The location and facility was stunning. We stayed in a room with a private onsen, which was spectacular. It was worth the extra expense. Mt. Fuji peaked out the morning we left, and the view from the room was perfect.

The staff was extremely inexperienced. They spoke English, but I felt like they were mostly trainees with only a few managerd to oversee them. The front desk clerk was confused, and the table service during the meals was poor.

Beautiful view and a great room. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The attached onsen in the main building was very nice, but closes at 8pm. There is an "overnight" onsen in the building, but I didn't end up using that one. The location is great, right next to Hakone-en which has multiple attractions. It is also close to Hakone shrine and the Peace Torii, but you'll want to drive or bus to it. Waking up to Mt. Fuji through the window is hard to beat.

The room is a bit dated, as others have mentioned, but I did not find this to be a problem. I just wanted to note it for those that care about something like that.

Beautiful views of the lake and Mt. Fuji. Close to the bus station and cable car.

    10KennethPosted on: 9-22-2025

Excellent location. Staff was so attentive and professional. Great views of the lake and Mt Fuji from our room. Love the kimonos that we wore for meals. The private Onsen was so worth it.

The meals for dinner and breakfast were delicious. They shouldn’t charge for tea though.

    10AminaPosted on: 9-19-2025

Everything, and especially the onsen that has mt Fuji view was the highlight of the trip

I liked everything except this incident during dinner. The dinner is expensive and we were expecting exceptional service, however the waiter gave us the spoon that he dropped seconds ago; we didn’t want to make him uncomfortable but we also didn’t like the waiter’s attention and the way he served. He was kind of ignorant? Also he forgot to serve us tea, while he served to everyone else perfect dinner course. We felt a bit awkward…

    10RamónPosted on: 9-1-2025

Everything was incredible, from the views in the room, the kindness of the staff, the food, the room itself, everything was amazing for us.
