    Pros +

    • Separate in room hot bath, which was incredible
    • The dinner and breakfast we opted for were both delicious and the staff are all very professional and accommodating. We had a lovely, even magical time. The views from pretty much any room at Aura are stunning - I highly recommend enjoying a beverage on the second floor balcony. It was also easy to get to from the station - per instructions provided, we went to a desk who called Aura for us and a shuttle was there within minutes to take us up the hill.
    • Amazing place with good amenities. Food was very good and staff was very polite.

    Cons -

    • The room was beautiful, but even though I asked for a Western room what I got was two mattresses on the floor, which were much too low
    • I would have preferred a room with one large bed instead of two twin beds but it didn’t seem to be available
    • The check-in and check-out times make for a very short feeling 1-night trip and was quite pricey. The hallways look and feel a little dated, but they do have redeeming background music.

The onsen in our room was so lovely, the food was fantastic and the service was impeccable

It was super convenient to have the shuttle pick up and drop off at the train station. The balcony with the little private onsen was lovely. The staff were friendly and helpful. The meals were amazing, mostly for the authentic feeling. They were able to provide me vegetarian options; not all were my cup of tea, but I appreciated the effort.

The place is beautiful, the room was really big and comfortable, and we loved having a private hot spring bath on the terrace. The traditional dinner was very elaborate and tasty.

We tried calling reception after dinner to ask them for help setting up the futons, and we just got told "no english" and they hung up. Also, although we loved the traditional dinner, we wished that there was a western option for breakfast.

Walking distance from the train station, they provide shuttle services as well. One of the highest hotels in the area with a view. Wonderful public bath. Exceptionally friendly staff.

View from the room was amazing. Hot springs and private bath in balcony was fantastic.

    Hotel is kinda old.

The shuttle bus service was extremely quick to pick us up at Hakone-Yumoto Station. The Kaiseki dinner and breakfast were both wonderful. The private onsen in our room was so relaxing and a perfect break halfway through our trip.

We stayed at Aura Tachibana in 2023 and had an amazing time. Maybe that set my expectations too high for a second visit, but I wasn't nearly as impressed with this stay. First, the prices have gone up by a large amount in two years; I know this is one way hotels are compensating for over-tourism and the weak yen, but it turns out the room I paid so much more for wasn't even the same type of room I had last time. It had the private open air bath, but no terrace with chairs and a lovely deck, so there was nowhere to sit and enjoy the view. This is also on me for not double-checking the type of room I reserved (I was certain it was the same as before), but for how much more I paid, it was sad to get less. The ryokan is showing its age; our room was in desperate need of a new paint job and a thorough floor-to-ceiling refresh. The floor was scuffed and dirty, and the room felt dark and dingy. There isn't even a light by the beds any longer, just a plugged in power strip that looked rather out of place. Our dinner and breakfast were lovely but not served in the tatami room like last time, which sort of ruined the 'immersion' of being dressed in yukata and getting the full ryokan kaiseki experience. The mattresses were absolutely rock hard, and our air conditioner was very weak; we ended up sleeping with the window wide open, hoping to get some sort of breeze. While the open-air bath in our room was still relaxing and the kaiseki was great, I just didn't have the same enchanting experience I had before. I don't think I'll be choosing this ryokan again in the future.

The hotel was beautiful. The onsen baths were very relaxing and the dinner and breakfast were delicious. The staff was very accommodating and helped us with everything we needed. It was such a relaxing get away!

Very friendly and helpful staff, beautiful room and view. The location was 10mins walk from the station, would highly recommend to anyone who wants to visit Hakone.

    10CariePosted on: 11-5-2025

Very quite and low key. The room was amazing! So much room and of course the ONSEN! Can’t ask for anything more.

Location in quiet place with beautiful view, staff very professional and friendly. Onsen is very good.Breakfast and dinner are unique pieces of art (not like everything, but lot of).

    Bar close too early.

Incredible breakfast with almost too much food. The selection was varied and there were some interesting new tastes for us to sample. The staff was over the top accommodating. Location was good and neighborhood was safe and interesting. In room onsens.

    3EmmanuelPosted on: 10-19-2025

for the most part quiet patrons

Extremely expensive and overpriced for the value you get. Low quality run down facilities and thin walls. Mediocre quality food should be allowed to order extra included for the price you pay.

    9KathrynPosted on: 10-15-2025

Lovely Japanese experience - onsens, food, shuttle service.

    Pillows.

    10del M.Posted on: 10-14-2025

    Peaceful and quiet

Steep hills to get to the hotel, but grateful for their shuttle bus

    7AlbertPosted on: 10-9-2025

Public onsen was great and the design was pretty.

Location is up hill so better use the shuttle to get to the hotel instead of walking up hill especially if you have luggage.

Loved our stay! Beautiful rooms and baths - especially the outdoor soaking tubs. Plush bedding and comfy beds, it was also a treat to wear the provided kimonos and slippers. Peaceful views and very quiet. Staff were very kind and attentive. The Japanese style multi course dinners and breakfasts were quite a dining adventure and alot of fun. Location is great and the convenient shuttle service provided by the hotel made it easy to get to local sightseeing transportation. We had an excellent stay and highly recommend.

    9TimPosted on: 9-26-2025

The outdoor onsen facility was impressive! The room we stayed in (traditional Japanese room) was spacious and the bedding was very comfortable. The meals were very thoughtful, delicious, and filling.I would like to especially recognize the staff who quickly set up our room on short notice—I was feeling unwell after the bus ride to Hakone Shrine and had to travel back to the hotel. Upon arrival, the receptionist helped ensure I could enter our room within a few minutes.

It would be nice if there were some extra lighting options in the room, such as a small floor lamp or table lamp for night time or for reading.
