    Pros +

    • great onsite onsen, great dinner and breakfast, hotel staff all great
    • "dinner," "breakfast," and "onsen"
    • The Onsen was definitely the highlight of my stay.

    Cons -

    • The lack of hospitality to accommodate the guests needs. It was too by the rules rather than the experience for me. Example, as an American I left the room key in the room. At check out, they made me go back to my room and get the key. It was a total inconvenience for someone who paid $700 a night for a room.
    • Private onsen was not as big as I expected. Was difficult to use with my partner. I’ve stayed at other hotels where the private jacuzzi is larger.
    • Hate to be that person, but there was some hair in the closet with the jackets. Hence we never did try on the traditional wear.

Friendly staff; large room; clean and generous buffet meals

Private onsen was not as big as I expected. Was difficult to use with my partner. I’ve stayed at other hotels where the private jacuzzi is larger.

The Amenities were great. The natural spring water tub was incredible. The rooms were very spacious. The Tatami mats were a classic touch. Free ice cream. The Buffett was really good.

Hate to be that person, but there was some hair in the closet with the jackets. Hence we never did try on the traditional wear.

The private onsen. The room.Beautiful property.

The Food. Too many children screaming and crying. The cover charge for the bar, even for guests staying on the property.

    8MeganPosted on: 1-7-2026

    Nice facility. Nice property.

The dinner was advertised as a kaizen, but it was a buffet, so while the food was tasty it did not feel special the way I hoped it would.

    9JuliePosted on: 1-3-2026

The staff was extremely accommodating. Our room was outstanding and We had a delicious kaiseki dinner.

Hard to find the mineral spa. Not impressed

    10ElaynePosted on: 12-28-2025

The onsen was absolutely mesmerizing! I especially love the 6/F onsen (the men and women alternate between 5/F and 6/F onsen). The outdoor onsen has breathtaking views of the mountain and you can even see the sun rise! It's so calming and peaceful to enjoy the onsen while observing the natural beauty of the landscapes.

Although the dinner buffet was delicious, it remained the same day after day. We didn't book alternative dining such as Shabu Shabu and Tenpannyaki, so we ate at the dinner buffet for 3 consecutive nights and it got a little boring.

Everything was amazing: location, food (we took breakfast and dinner), room, onset, staff!

    10SonaPosted on: 12-23-2025

This place was truly magical. We visited in November and it was absolutely fascinating. The weather was perfect and the outdoor onsen was unforgettable, set beneath a waterfall with golden autumn leaves hanging all around you.The room was very clean, cozy, and comfortable. We used the private room onsen every sunrise. It was about 7°C outside, and soaking in the onsen while watching the sunrise from our room was an experience we will never forget. The buffet was incredible, easily some of the best food we had in Hakone. Highly recommended. There is also a bus stop right in front of the hotel, which made getting around very convenient.

    Everything was on top!

The hot spring water is quite hot, and complimentary ice cream and drinks are available after bathing. The buffet is delicious, and the hotel is very close to the Okada Museum of Art.

    The onsen

Had to get a waiting ticket for breakfast. The food is the same everyday. Gets tiring.

    10thomasPosted on: 12-8-2025

All meals ( breakfast, lunch, dinner) were superlative. Great balance in the buffets, between Japanese dishes and western style items, range of drinks as well as specialty options ( shabu shabu or teppanyaki ). Rooms were exceptionally comfortable and clean. Onsens were ultra relaxing. The surrounding grounds and garden were immaculate.

Really couldn't find anything negative about our stay here at this facility.

    10JeremyPosted on: 11-21-2025

Tenyu was an incredible experience for my wife and I during our first trip to Japan. The views were impeccable. The staff was courteous. Free ice cream whenever we want? Sensational! Breakfast and dinner had a ton of great options. The spa and onsen were such a great way to unwind and relax as well in a quiet environment. Couldn't recommend more!

    Nothing! Was a perfect stay!

    10EmmanuelPosted on: 11-9-2025

Beautiful property, gorgeous garden, and two excellent onsens. Professional, friendly, and courteous staff. Many amenities. Careful attention to detail and needs of guests.

    10ShahakPosted on: 11-8-2025

This hotel is absolutely incredible, it truly has everything! The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and there’s even an option for an authentic Japanese-style stay with a private onsen in the room. The view of the surrounding mountains is breathtaking, and both breakfast and dinner offer an amazing variety of delicious food. The staff were wonderful and welcoming, and the hotel even features small, charming live performances. In the afternoon and evening, there’s a lounge area with snacks and drinks (including alcohol) included in your stay, the perfect place to relax and enjoy the atmosphere.Honestly, this hotel provides everything you could ask for, a once-in-a-lifetime experience… or maybe more, because we definitely want to come back! ?

Amazing stay!! Worm welcome by the staff, very large, clean and comfartable facilitiy. Room is in good size and the open air bath is great! Had dinner twice in the resterunts and once in the buffet, all very good.Breakfast is very rich but missing cheese and vegetabels for us.Thanks

As most Hakone hotels access is hard, need public bus or taxi.

    10RobertPosted on: 10-18-2025

Breakfast had Japanese and Western food, and everything tasted delicious.

Due to mountainous location and accident on road, taxi ride took over 1 1/2 hours from Kyoto.
