- Hotel has 3 private hot springs on a first come basis. Very easy to find as it a 1 min walk from a train stop.
- It was a really pleasant experience
- From the moment you walk in to the hotel, it was more than what I expected. We paid for the dinner and breakfast, which was oishii. The staff was great, from the front desk to the servers at the restaurant, all very respectful and happy to explain to us first timers how to do things and where to go. They even provided yukata to wear around the hotel and to meals. Location is great too, close to the station and convenient to get around. Such a great experience for our family of 4. We can't wait to go back again!
Cons -
- Dinner service was a bit slow compared to the service received during our stay in Japan.
- Was a little stinky and dirty, and the bathhouses seemed outdated for the price
- The yukatas and the monk clothes where definitely made for the average person and not for the extremes of hight and bulk that my friend and I were.

Gender separated onsens and private onsens, free snacks and ramen, full course dinner and breakfast, attentive helpful staff, beautiful scenery, lots of amenities, room has lots of different slippers, great value!
The staff knew English and we're very helpfully. You can taste quality of the ingredients and cooking of the food. Really liked the additional amenities and snacks that were included.

Beautiful room, clean facility, delicious food, great staff. Excellent place to enjoy your onsen experience.
The location of hotel is great. It is near the train and cable car station in Gora, and has various different Onsens. My room has a bath on a balcony, so it is also good way to relax in morr private setting. There is a free renting of samues and yukatas, and free ramen for a dinner
The sound insulation in my room was quite bad, so the noise and loud voices from the corridor woke md up early in the morning. For this price per night this is quite bad. For me it was the only thing I didn’t like about the hotel. So consider getting an earplugs.
Wonderful location of the hotel, right next to the Gora station and a great place to stay to do things in Hakone. The staff were very helpful and the onsens were great. I loved being able to take an outdoor bath in my room. One of the best ryokans that I've stayed at.
Perhaps the meal could be better, but that is a little nitpicky.
Location was within walking distance to the cableway and art museums. Room was a good size and had bath on balcony.
Sadly, I feel you pay a premium for the location, onsite onsens, and breakfast and dinner being included. The walls in the hallways in the communal areas as well as the room itself were extremely dirty and heavily marked. I stupidly forgot to take photos. It made these areas look unclean and not cared for. Of everywhere we stayed in Japan, sadly this was the most disappointing for what we paid. We paid for 3 people, and only 2 beds were made up. We had to set up and make the third ourselves, which is fine but not for the price we paid. Everywhere else we stayed, the third bed was already set up and made for us. This probably would not have been such an issue if the futon mattress had not been covered in hair when we set up the bed, which was very offputting. Dinner was a set traditional Japanese menu (7 or so courses) which I am sure many would like and appreciate. Unfortunately being a set menu it did not offer any flexibility, there was honestly too much food for the timeslot given, and not very family friendly. It was too much for us Westerners and choose not to eat there the following night even though it had already been covered as part of our accommodation costs. The nail on the head was the additional onsen tax which we had to pay per night on check out. This had not been previously communicated to us, and we did not even use the public or private onsen on site as there always seemed to be in use. When we stayed at another hotel in Karuizawa, this was only paid when used and clearly communicated on check-in.
The location is convenient and the onsen is exceptional. There were nice amenities and snacks provided.
Private Onsen available on a first come first serve basis, dinner and breakfast are provided, in-house massage/ spa until 1 AM, in-house souvenir shops, so many free snacks (yakult, 10 PM ramen, taiyaki, ice creams), beautiful outdoor landscapes.
Most of the stuff are available starting from 3 PM up till 11 AM. So if you’re planning to stay in, due to bad or rainy weather, there’s not much things/ relaxation activities to do.
The location, facilities, food, staff.
I liked the convenience of the hotel being right next to the train station and the experience of staying in a traditional room and enjoying a private onsen.
The private onsen! Helpful staff and relaxing location
The breakfast and dinner were an amazing experience. The bathhouses are definitely the highlight.
The pillows for my neck but didn't have high expectations for that.
The onsens (natural hot spring baths) were terrific. The afternoon ice cream bars were a nice treat after a day of sightseeing/hiking and Onsen. There are great restaurants nearby and the hotel can usually get you reservations (which you'll need in most cases).
This was a really magnificent experience. I didn't use the public onsen as I'm heavily tattooed, but I was able to use all three private onsen (tip: go before breakfast or during one of the dinner services for little to no wait times). The free rental samue, yukata, haori, and geta were very comfortable and kept me warm in the cooler evenings. Showering and bathing on the balcony was a really liberating experience. The absolute highlight for me was the food, though: wagyu beef shabu shabu, pufferfish sushi, hot spring eggs, and smoked duck were some of the many dishes I enjoyed as part of the kaiseki set meals. I ate in both restaurants, which I recommend.
Sometimes the lamps indicating which private onsen were available didn't match the actual availability, but I never had to wait very long for one to free up.
Fabulous onsenGreat tub on our garden facing patioLoved the kimono selection in the lobby, and loved wearing it throughout the property during our stay
Did a lot of research to find our ideal accommodation in Hakone and never really did. For onsen alone this place is great, but we had to take half board and the food for the most part was not to our taste. Seems like there’s not a lot of restaurants for dinner in Gora- it seems to all but shutter at night-so even if we had been able to book room only here I’m not sure where we would have eaten. Seems like a lot of money to spend for what it is, the property is a bit tired in many areas. Glad we went but glad we only stayed one night.
The rooms are large if you choose the ones with tatami area, large beds and outdoor bath. The kaiseki dinner and breakfast were quite elaborate and I assume part of the reason for the high cost of a one-night stay. The hotel is just around the corner from Gora Station so it’s a good location for getting around the area. Liked the robes and pajamas they provide (although the slippers are very small). Everyone wore them all around the property - even to dinner.
The hotel is very tired looking and needs a refresh. Just the basics - fresh paint, wallpaper and carpeting - would help a lot. The hotel is a very traditional ryokan, and although they have materials in English explaining some of the less familiar aspects, it would be helpful to have more detailed written information (how the public baths work, how to use the outdoor bath in the room, how the kaiseki dinner works) since not all the staff is easy to understand stand in English. The wooden outdoor tubs may be off-putting to some, but the hot spring bathing experience itself was nice.
The food here was outstanding — both breakfast and dinner set meals were a real treat. The location right next to Gora Station makes it very easy to access. I especially enjoyed the onsen, with both public and private baths available and no need for reservations.
A few small things could be improved, like adding body oils or lotions, providing holders for bath products, and ensuring the private bath is a bit cleaner. Overall, though, it was a wonderful and convenient stay.
