    Pros +

    • Location is good. Staff is excellent.
    • The onsens were perfect lovely staff
    • Location was easy walking distance from Hakone station and restaurants/shops. Traditional room was very clean- liked the private outdoor hot spring with this room. Peaceful.

    Cons -

    • Room is dirty. The fake plant standing near the head of the futon was dusty. The wall was smeared with marks.
    • For the cost of the room, a meal or two would have been very nice to have been included.
    • While the room was incredibly spacious, my husband who is a taller/larger man, did not find the available seating in the rooms very comfortable. Basically it would have been nice if there were more cushions for lounging/padding the wicker chairs. I think the water heater to our private bath/shower also may have malfunctioned on the day that we were to check out.

The staff was super friendly, however, for the price it’s pretty rundown. The rooms could use a bit of renovation and some paint was falling off the walls in our room. The open air onsen was wonderful!

Personal onsen/bath, beautiful view, amazing dinner and breakfast! The room itself is massive and spacious and very clean. Overall amazing price for what we paid for we honestly didn't expect the room to be so large.

Kaiseki meals were wonderful as were the onsen/private baths. The Okami-san was also very patient and courteous, showing us great hospitability. The ryokan itself was very quiet, beautiful, and conveniently located near the Hakone Yumoto station and a number of bus stops.

While the room was incredibly spacious, my husband who is a taller/larger man, did not find the available seating in the rooms very comfortable. Basically it would have been nice if there were more cushions for lounging/padding the wicker chairs. Authentic Japenese experience. Food in such an original format was a first time experience some unusual dishes for our Irish taste buds.

The breakfast was not to our westernised taste but service and atention to detail when serving was exceptional

this was very much a motel and not a hotel. The room seem pretty rundown and the facility itself look like it was built in the 70s and hasn’t been updated since. If I didn’t pay through the nose for the room, I don’t think I would be upset, but for $950 a night I was expecting a lot more than what I got.

There wasn’t much service besides for checking in and checking out. Once you check in, they give you a key and you don’t really see them again and the English was very limited. There was a lot of light coming in from the windows, so it was very hard to sleep. You can also hear people from the outside very easily. The middle drawers in the rooms made it feel very impersonal. I was expecting more of a warm feeling.

Breakfast was below expectations. At such a nice hotel, with onsen and all, we expected a traditional japanese breakfast ("kaiseki style"). Breakfast was good, but too "western".

All of the staff were very friendly. The lady in the dining room was especially warm and attentive—she adjusted our yukata and explained each dish.

We loved the outdoor onsen. It was our first experience and we really enjoyed it, especially out under the stars. The room was large and very comfortable, and even sleeping on the floor was comfortable. Be aware that there are stairs, but the staff kindly carried our luggage up to our room.

    Everything was perfect.

Food was terrific Onsen was great. We loved having the public bath AND the Onsen in the room.

Local transport is terrible. The Onsen resorts should get together to get the city to provide better taxi/uber transport to get around. The resort could provide more shuttle service even for the guest to pay for it.

First of all, the staff. They were all lovely and helpful. We were served dinner and breakfast in our room by the same woman who was so nice and a pro at Google translate. Speaking of breakfast and dinner -- wow. Multi-course deliciousness. I couldn't even finish all the breakfast goodies. Just know it is a very Japanese breakfast -- no Western items. Both the indoor and outdoor onsens were amazing -- although the outdoor one at the top of the hill is only accessible by stairs, as are some of the rooms on the highest level. Our room was large with both Japanese floor seating and a table with chairs. The beds were super cozy and comfy. They run a shuttle in the morning TO the train station but they don't offer any station pick-up. It is an inexpensive taxi ride or about a 10 minute walk. There are lots of dining and snacking places in town.

    Loved all of it.

Great location. amazing staff and location. Very serene. Loved the onsen. It was great to stay in a traditional ryokan.

    Nothing. Wonderful experience.

Amazing views, great staff who were very welcoming and very hard working. They put a lot of effort into ensuring our stay was as comfortable and enjoyable as possiblem

Our room was located on the highest floor of the hotel but the lift only went up to the floor before. After that you need to climb stone stairs in the mountain cliffside exposed to the elements carrying heavy suitcases. I was very worried that someone (be it staff or guests) may slip on the wet stairs. This however should take nothing out of the experience but perhaps there should be some planning around how to make that climb more secure.

Great size traditional room. Easy walking distance to the station, shops and restaurants. Excellent helpful staff and delicious breakfast.

This property provided an excellent ambiance inside and outside. We really enjoyed our own open air Onsen bath. It was very roomy. The location was great and within walking distance to all the shops and restaurants. The front desk attendant Miki-chan was extremely helpful and aided us with our sightseeing plans. She is the BEST!!

After 10 days exploring Tokyo, Ito, and Kyoto, I arrived in Hakone ready to relax and unwind - and Senkei was a perfect place to do that! The staff is excellent, namely Linh, who brought breakfast and dinner to my room daily and who was a joy to be around. Speaking of, the food was delicious. Fresh and seasonable ingredients that left me feeling full and happy. I booked a room with a private onsen and was so pleased with the experience. The water is magic. I also checked out the open air public onsen and was amazed by the view. My experience at Senkei was truly one of the highlights of my Japan trip :)

Two small things that certainly did not take away from my experience in any significant way, but that could certainly be considered by Senkei to add to the excellent hospitality that they provide:1) Senkei informed me that a ryokan shuttle would be available at Hakone Yumoto station to drop me off at the hotel for 200 Yen. I was told that it departs from the station at 15 and 45 minutes past the hour and that the last shuttle bus departs at 4:45 PM on weekdays (5:45 PM on Fridays and Saturdays). However, when I arrived at Hakone Yumoto. Station at 2pm on a Wednesday, nobody seemed to be able to direct me to the shuttle and when someone was eventually able to confirm that there was indeed a shuttle, I was told that there was no 2:15pm shuttle and that I would have to wait until 2:45. This is, of course, not Senkei's fault. But it got me thinking that for this hotel's price point, it could be worth organizing a hotel-run shuttle for guests. This feeling was further reinforced when I was informed that the hotel does in fact have a shuttle to bring guests to the station after their stay. Given that the station is only really a 5-min drive from the hotel, I think that the service should be offered both ways :)2) I could have just been a little flustered upon arrival due to the transportation issue, but something that was not made super clear to me during check-in was that the hotel is attempting to be environmentally-conscious by limiting room cleanings as much as possible. My understanding ended up being that guests can receive a complimentary beverage of their choice at dinner by agreeing to not have their room cleaned for the duration of their stay. Again, I wasn't made super clear on the fact that this was a choice - I was just prompted to select a beverage for dinner that evening. In the end, upon clarifying, I was informed that I would only be receiving beverages on 2 of my 3 nights.

Location is absolutely great, the crew were very kind and caring, room and all facilities are clean. Good breakfast, and the onsen is very nice! Great experience

We took a japanese room, but for me the bed wasn't comfortable. And the room isn't for tall people. If you are 1.90 m + so probably it won't fit your size.

We had both the dinner and breakfast both were excellent.

The room smelled like mold and mildew.
