About
A quiet forest setting right in the middle of the city. A spacious terrace, mature trees, and hydrangeas. Nestled among them is our hotel, Das Lola—a former villa for mine directors, steeped in history. It has been lovingly renovated and converted into a hotel, offering 30 cozy rooms where you can unwind and relax. The large conservatory provides plenty of space for getting work done or socializing. Books and artwork are found throughout the property. Here, you will find peace, space, forest, and nature—combining professional hotel service with a welcoming, family-like atmosphere. Despite its quiet, green location, Das Lola features excellent transport links: Messe Essen (the trade fair grounds) is just a 15-minute walk away, and a tram stop with a direct connection to Essen Central Station is only 656 feet away. The A52 motorway towards Düsseldorf can be reached in a two-minute drive. We are on-site daily from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., ensuring a fantastic breakfast and impeccably clean rooms. One thing you won’t find here is a large reception desk where we spend our day. Check-in takes place from 3:00 p.m. via the terminal at the main entrance. It is very easy to use: simply enter your surname or booking number to start the process. We send all guests an email the day before arrival with detailed check-in instructions. Should any questions arise during check-in or while you are here, we are always available by phone to assist you. A large car park is available behind the hotel for our guests to use free of charge. Secure bicycle storage is also provided there. We have created two lovely spots—one at the main entrance and one in the conservatory—perfect for working, reading, or meeting people. Guests are welcome to use the foyer at any time, while the conservatory is available until 3:00 p.m. (or later in the evening upon prior request). The foyer features a complimentary coffee and tea station, as well as a beverage fridge accessible to all guests. Lola is a lively space where you can move around freely and discover your favorite spot. Breakfast is a time for us to get to know our guests—and for them to get to know us. You can start your day in a relaxed atmosphere in our conservatory or out on the terrace. We serve only organic milk, eggs, cold cuts, and cheese, and source the vast majority of our fruit and vegetables locally. Dogs are very welcome here; a surcharge of €15.00 applies to the room rate. At the same time, we want to guarantee guests with pet allergies a room that has never been entered by a dog. We therefore ask that you let us know in advance—by phone or email—if you are bringing a dog. We have designated specific dog-friendly rooms in every category that offer particularly quick access to the forest.

It was very clean and good location
We came to stay at this hotel over the weekend and we came for work. Truly we believed it’s not a 4 star. It is a 3 star. Reception is only open from 7am till 3pm. We arrived late, so there was no receptionist, our room was clean but the sink was so blocked that it wasn’t possible to properly use it at all, not even to brush the teeth cause the water would come to the floor. The next day in the morning I went and asked a receptionist to unblock the silk. Seemed like or she didn’t care or she didn’t speak English well. She didn’t even say she’s sorry that in a 4 star hotel the water comes on the floor if we use a sink. After we left to work all day and when we came back in the evening - nothing was fixed. Sink is the same very much blocked and receptionist is gone. I’d not recommend and not come back. Had to brush my teeth with a water bootle. Also there is only one pillow and house keeping just turned off the heating so it’s freezing cold when we come back, instead of giving fresh towels, bath mat (they forgot once again to give us a bath mat) or toilet paper.Honestly this hotel is not worth the money at all.

If you like a good cup of tea, a healthy breakfast and a peaceful nights sleep, then this is the place for you! The hotel is on a quiet street, with woodland opposite. It is only staffed until 3pm, but don't let that put you off, as the automated check in was easy, even for a technophobe, like me. A tram stop at the end of the road makes for a quick and easy ride into Essen centre. The rooms are comfortable, furnished with taste and have everything you need.Breakfast is terrific. In coffee loving Germany, here you will find 12 cannisters of different teas, teapots with proper integrated infusers, and cold milk (not coffee creamer!} Fabulous! The homemade overnight oats are delicious, and there is a great fresh fruit salad, as well as all the normal fare. Plus it can be eaten outside, on sunny days. The lovely woman who owns this place could not be more helpful. Lufthansa lost my luggage, and she was able to take me to a cupboard containing all things for such emergencies, and quickly supplied me with complimentary toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant....Once Lufthansa located it, they said they could only deliver late afternoon, (after the staff have left). But she spoke to the courier driver himself on the phone, and had it delivered to her home nearby. All problems that could have led to an awful start to our holiday, were quickly neutralised by her. What a find this peaceful place was. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

The place was easy to find. Everything you need is atound the corner, including a really nice icecream shop next to the supermarket around the corner. Everything from the checkin to the checkout was properly automated and easily accessible. The room was neat, clean and with enough space. The bathroom was impeccable. I found it sweet and unique that they had lots of interesting and nuanced reading material in the lobby with a coffee machine. It was like a small corner from a reading cafe.
I honestly didn’t‘t see anything I didn‘t like.
Great location and, very peaceful stay. Very clean rooms with excellent facilities. The hosts are very welcoming and accommodating. Would highly recommend Hotel Das Lola.

Good size rooms well appointed bathrooms with one of the best showers I’ve ever had in a hotel there was a nice feel about the whole hotel parking was excellent we also had a good buffet breakfast
The bathroom had a condensation issue also it could of been a leaking window as we did have heavy rain but it didn’t detract from our stay
Good size room and very, very clean. We arrived by car and the access to the entrance is very good, the hotel having its own drive. There was ample parking around the back on the premises of the hotel. The breakfast was great, plenty of choice for a continental breakfast and good coffee!Friendly host too. All in all plenty of reasons to come back to Das Lola.
It’s very clean! Checking in and check put is super easy. Staff is dependable. I asked for some recommendations from one of the staff and she was gracious enough to put together a list of stores and places I could explore.
There’s no room service. I mean at night I sometimes need to drink an extra glass of water but there’s no one to call for room service and groceries outside are closed. Bit of an inconvenience there but in totality my stay was amazing.
Great clean hotel with great accessibility to wonderful
Pillows were very soft and would have liked a coffee and tea station for guests
Location was with 15 minutes walk from Spiel Essen. Great restaurants nearby. Quiet and calm. Very comfortable room for 3 people.
It would have been nice to have somewhere to sit in the evening to play games (purchased at Spiel). Because of this, we lost some of the lovely social interactions with guests sharing games in the evening (which happens in other hotels that I have stayed at during Spiel)
