Self check in City Hostel Nordstern

Good location.

Not soundproof rooms, we could hear all the noise of other guests, the non functioning TV. Small washbasin (you can not even wash your hands in that). Cob webs could use a deep clean.

Simple, as in the pictures, quite clean and good for the night.

The shower was a bit complicated and we were not able to turn off the heating system for the room so we ended up sleeping with a window open..

It was small but clean, perfect for one night.

The window can hurt you when you go out of the bed. There is not enough space so that was a little uncomfortable.

Location is nearby the center. Nice room. Price is perfect.

We decided to do a last minute weekend trip. Value for money was fantastic. We got a double room with a private bathroom. Everything met/exceeded expectations. Location is awesome, Less than 10 mins to the main shopping area, Essen itself is quite small, but the hostel is right on the tram line to Essen HBF in one direction and also Zollverein UNESCO World Heritage Site in the other. So very easy to get anywhere.

It is close to tram stop and not too far from supermarket. So it was convenient.

I asked many questions to the owner but he/she never answered to my questions.We stayed there for 8 days and we needed clean towels and get trash out....I wish they can at least answer something even though it is self check-in hotel.

Everything was clean, beds soft and nice to sleep in. Just walking distance from city centre.

Shower could do with update but overall did the job.

Host could make a not on a booking or something about Low Emission Zone i.e. something you can't bypass and if you travel from abroad you can't even buy a pass for. Meaning we were forced to break the law to use this hostel :(

Rooms were clean, simple and perfect for an easy overnight stay.

Road was load, and since it was quite warm (mid-June) sleeping with the window open was tough. Overall wasn't a dealbreaker.

The toilet was outside the room. It is common toilet for everyone. The room was not sound proof.

Fast check-in, even had a special mirror for shaving.

Heard a crying kid in the room nearby at late ours. Toilet is very noisy when you flush. Windows don't have mosquito nets. The bed is a bit shaky.On top of that, a man started trimming vines around my windows when I was getting ready to check out.

The rooms are designed creatively. Every room appears to be different than the other. Also the pricing is competitive, but value for money could be improved.

Cleanliness could definitely be improved. The shared showers are oftentimes dirty / a bit broken down.

The shared toilet was dirty and we could hear everyone else. The microwave station was also quite dirty, but I would put it on the other guests.

You get exactly what you pay for - a cheap and cosy Hostel.Check In was far better than expected - easy to contact and clear instructions. Recommendation is given.

Location. Not very expensive.

There was a kettle but no cups or glasses to use it. No soap for the showers. Very noisy neighbours in the room next to us.

The room was on a smaller size but had everything it needed. It was clean, the bed was ok. The location was quite nice, we walked one night from the Essen HBF to the apartment and it was not that far.
