    • The breakfast was amazing!!! The host was very nice. Also, I checked in after hours and they were responsive to assist. Host spoke some English.
    • The breakfast was very typical German and very nice. This is a quaint little inn. Very clean. Comfortable .
    • Very nice and homey place with amazing breakfast. Nice and quite location. Friendly staff and easy going attitude.

    Cons -

    • The street is noisy; ask for a room off the street if available.
    • Everything was ok.
    • The breakfast became quite repetitive over the 2 weeks. It's not a buffet as such, instead a selection of breads, cheese, cold meats, etc are brought to your table. You can then add a fresh boiled egg if you like together with fresh coffee. Nice food, it just got a bit repetitive.

I travel out of my way to stay here for the breakfast. It is my absolute favourite of anywhere I’ve stayed in Germany. The host is very friendly and the rooms are always clean and cosy.

Great location with several nearby restaurants and easy transport into Essen and further afield. We had one of the rooms on the top floor with a balcony, which is great for a small family. The staff are lovely, so friendly and helpful.Easy and plentiful free parking.

Very quaint, old fashioned hotel. Clean and comfortable.

The location worked for me, but for anyone looking to be close to the center of the city it is probably not the best option.

Cute & traditional German guesthaus. The breakfast was unbelievable! So much food for two people but delicious!!

Dirty. Bugs running in the beds....

Hospitality was great, it was very valuable, especially the breakfast

Windows towards the road and cars were very good to hear. Pillows were too soft, but that’s my individual feeling

quiet environment, excellent breakfast, parking near by, Bavaria style old fashioned rooms but nice, good Wi-Fi

it is definitely not modern but clean

    9MartinPosted on: 4-17-2023

Very cozy.Very nice personal and amazing breakfast.Enough parking place .Everything was just perfect.

Breakfast juice classes are too small and personal comes to fill them.Maybe its eazyer to put pitcher of juice and water on the table.

    9MaijaPosted on: 4-11-2023

Such a cosy place, slept really well and the breakfast was wonderful. Highly recommend.

Pillows were very thin/lumpy. This was the only negative thing about our stay.

    9AlanPosted on: 3-21-2023

The breakfast was excellent. The room and facilities were excellent

The mattress was a bit hard and a second pillow would have been nice

We have stayed in this hotel around 8 years ago, and today everything looks the same - as it was opened just yesterday. The hotel is made in traditional German style and there you will find all authentic details. Very nice breakfast and very gentle personal. It is located a bit far away from Essen center, but that is only an advantage. It is located in very quite and cosy district, arount you can find the forest to go for a walk, good restourants near by and small cosy “center” where you can find the shops, CAFE and etc.

This was our second to Gasteb, visit but without a rental car. The 30 min walk from Werden suited us and although we requested a quiet room, we note that the road in front of the hotel is now not so busy. Some rooms have a good view to the rear overlooking the garden.

We had to turn on the radiators in our room. The breakfast is a bit over-rated but well presented and would.have benefitted from fresh bread etc.

    8ClarissaPosted on: 7-4-2022

Super friendly and accommodating staff. The room was clean every day. The WiFi worked very well.Breakfast was good.

The hotel rooms need a spruce badly. Things like the bathroom are very out of date and though clean, past their "lifetime". Maybe when better days come back for tourism, it'll changeOne big fat no no for me though was that the staff obviously smokes in their back office but you smell it in the entire house and on occasion in the rooms and that's not pleasant.

Superb breakfast - it would be difficult to improve on the level of service and selection/quantity of food available. There are at least 2 restaurants close by offering decent food for evening meals. Off street parking is available just outside the hotel. The owner is very friendly and gives 100% to her guests. Serving and attending to the guests is obviously a point of pride.
