Astoria Hotel Essen

Very friendly and professional staff. Always there with a smile in their face. Helpful with all questions and requests I had. The breakfast with warm and cold choices and with different kind of delicious self made jam. The breakfast room is very cosy well located with a big glass terrace facing a little pond with a water fountain and the garden. The location is amazing. 5 walking minutes to shops, restaurants, banks, ATMs, underground METRO and even a mall with food court is nearby. Thank you for your care!!!

Breakfast was fine. Rooms big and okay.

No cleaning automatically, no person/staff seen on site apart from woman at breakfast each morning.No heat in room (Astoria Easy, which is located in a seperate building away from the hotel, which seems a bit weird)

The check in progress is a bit complicated. The location of the room is not well noted and the pin of the main door was not provided before check in. It’s not possible to store luggage. The location of the hotel is supposed to be easy to reach but the u-Bahn is relatively limited in late evening.

Room a long way from reception. WiFi at that part of hotel not very good.

Rooms are small but bed is comfortable and shower is great.TV has no reception and the elevator is tiny. But for a one night over stay is great and has packing off the road

- Elevator defect for a couple of days, we had to take our luggage 3 floors upstairs by ourselves.- They did not give us our booked room but a smaller one first, we had to complain to get what we booked.- The building is next to a busy street with no or less noise cancellation, always loud.- Very small room size, even for a double room.- Not much space for our luggage or to sit down.- Repairment needed for many features in bath and room.- The Personal was not much helpful.

Good proximity to the metro.Very good breakfast. English-speaking staff. Clean and nice. My room was of a good size and had everything you could expect from it. Nice environmental thinking.

Reception closes in the evenings with no staff there. Only a emergency number. The bed was uncomfortable and had a cheap feeling to it. Keycard stopped working at two separate occasions. The second time it became critical because we couldn’t get in to the gotel and the reception was closed. When we tried to call the emergency number nobody answered. This was in the evening and it started to get cold. After 90 minutes one of my friends googled and found another contact from a another hotel in the chain (I at least think that) and got from her a code to a keybox that contained master cards that could be used to unlock every door in the hotel. After that we could get to our rooms. Really dangerous and I don’t want to think about if we had young kids or was elderly. Or if we hadn’t gotten hold of someone. This was a absurd situation when we couldn’t get into our hotel which we had payed for.

The fact that there is no 24 h reception is a disaster.And no one there ob sundays! We had an issue with keya that didnt work to all guests with no one to talk to.

The room was clean and the staff were good. It was nice that one door to the hotel was near the train station so you could reach it quickly and easily.

Getting the room was a little messy as the cards were not working in the correct room and some cards and rooms were mixed with other guests. That took more time than what was planned.

Everything was very good for the price. Very friendly and helpful staff. I will go to more shows at the Amphitheatre in the future and will pick this hotel for my next visit.

It would 10/10 with a small refrigerator in the room. Only enough to keep your beverage (water ofc!) below room temperature :)

We travelled for a concert. The only good thing about our stay is that it was close to the concert venue so the taxi prices were a reasonable price.

When we went in after the concert, we found our rooms were not cleaned. The sheets were dirty/stained, and there were used clothes in the bin, tampon wrappers, and open food on the beds. In the morning, they offered us a full refund and insisted we go through booking.com since we booked through them. That's what I did; I called booking, and they requested a refund from the hotel. A month later, I messaged them to ask whether they had processed the refund, and they said they did, and it was in booking.com's hands. I called booking, and once again, they called the hotel. They found out that even though they said they had processed the refund, they had never done so. This leads me to email me higher management at booking. Less than a day later, I received the credit for my stay in my wallet. I also tried contacting the hotel multiple times on their info email however, I was ignored each time.

Very bad experience. The booking was paid in advance and they charged my credit card at my arrival. Been more than one month since i am trying to get the refund for my double payment.

The staff tried their best to help us after they messed up and double booked our room.

Unfortunately, I have to leave a negative review for Astoria Easy. I booked three rooms for me and 5 friends. We called beforehand to ask if we could check in early, the person on the phone told us it was no problem as long as we paid €25,- per room. When we arrived, however, only one of our rooms was ready. We did already receive keys for the other two rooms. We went to a concert in Gelsenkirchen. When we came back at 1 AM, we opened our rooms and one of the rooms was occupied by two ladies who we (obviously) scared the hell out of. Astoria Easy had double booked that room. The reception was closed so we had to call the emergency number, who mentioned they were not able to reach the hotel staff and couldn't give us another room. We then had to sleep with 6 people in two rooms. I can tell you, 3 people sleeping in a 2 person room without enough blankets and pillows was NOT comfortable. Besides this, there was no soap in our room to shower with and the bin was full with trash from the previous occupants. The next day, hotel staff was friendly and apologised for the mistake. I am still waiting for my money back.

The place is easy access to U-Bahn.

No available Shampoo.. only Soap at the bathroom, No disposable toothbrush and toothpaste too.
