    Pros +

    • Nice classic hotel with beautiful garden
    • Very pleasant stay, lovely property, staff were friendly and helpful. We stayed on a Monday so ate at the Bistro which was lovely, and breakfast was excellent. Safe parking.
    • It was in in a pleasant setting

    Cons -

    • Restaurant was not always open
    • The only comment is that the hotel is on the flightpath of the airport, which is fine once you are accustomed to it…. (not too noisy to be fair, but planes passing), there are no flights during the night, so peaceful sleep is possible. Obviously this is something the hotel can do absolutely nothing about and its environment is otherwise really lovely in what is, after all, a very busy location close to Düsseldorf and Essen, and may be a plus for convenience to the airport.
    • The phone in my room kept making dial tone noises every 5-10 minutes and kept us awake all night until we disconnected it from the wall. Reception didn’t respond to us at 2am and 3am when we raised the issue.

A throwback to better times. Reassuringly old-fashioned and lacking in glitz. Impeccable service from well-educated and pleasant staff who genuinely seem to care about guest comfort. Lovely grounds for the dog even though we stayed in January. Outstanding breakfast. Extremely comfortable bed and modern bathroom, some areas and furnishing are - old fashioned - so might not appeal to others as much as it did to me! I look forward to my next visit.

The breakfast is really nice. Also, the gardens are really nice.

The Junior suite is essentially a bigger room and not really a suite. For a room to be in the suite category, it must consist of two or more interconnected rooms which was not the case. Also, we did not get to stay in the main castle, which is disappointing. There is no clarity on Booking.com or on their website as to what room is where (lot of rooms are in small buildings outside castle)

All the staff were friendly and helpful. Beds were comfortable, location is great.Special thanks to the night shift receptionist (Michael).

    Building itself, restaraunts, atmosphere

room on mansarde floor was quite hot and AC wasn't really chilling it. However I understsand that there will be some limitations in renovated 18th century building:)

Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Fabulous environment.

There was some confusion over booking the evening meal because their main restaurant was closed. But it was all sorted before we got there; they kept their Bistro open instead - which was excellent.

Great breakfast, wonderful setting in a park. The superior room (number 33) had enough space, nice bathroom but not really gemütlich

Great historical building in nice settings. We had the opportunity to enjoy a very nice breakfast served at the table at the terrasse looking out in the garden which was amazing.Very good diner restaurant 1831 at the location.Nice, clean and cozy size rooms.Excellent location close to e.g. Dusseldorf and in walking distance to lovely old city Kettwig.

The water pressure at the shower bath was a bit low.

Excellent breakfast (food and staff). Beautiful Park Setting.

The modern touches seem out of place, missing a bit the „old world feel“ (compared to Wartburg).Way too much advertising for expensive clothing and other luxury items everywhere.Treatment at times not too courteous (bar), other times extremely nice (breakfast).I remember the rooms to be cosier.

Great historical building and excellent food in the restaurant

Not much taking into account German hospitality standards

We loved the location, the breakfast, dinner, absolutely outstanding and the room was gorgeous! The Hotel is amazing, traditional and well maintained plus close to a green, luxuriant forest that is all around. The area is so quite and peaceful. Pure beauty. We would recommend to all.

While the property deserves to be visited and is beautiful, we had an unpleasant surprise. Once at the property, we were offered a room that was of a category different and in particular lower than what we paid. The room offered didn't match any of the room's pictures showed on booking.com Therefore it would be important for the Booking.com clients to verify carefully and to ensure that what they've paid for it is actually given. Eventually we have received a fantastic room that was at level of what we've paid for.

Very nice Location. Beautiful Castle. Breakfast an experience.

Bistro Restaurant could be better organised.

We really had a great weekend at the castle! Having read reviews, we were expecting some noise from planes - but there was absolutely no noise heard in our room?? Room was beautiful, we had tasty dinner at restaurant 1831.Breakfast was amazing, one of the best we had in hotels. Definitely want to come back!

Bed was slightly small in a standard room, and my partner was upset there was no bath. Also, we would appreciate a bit more info about the castle itself! We left without having learned anything about it ??‍♀️

Excellent setting, like a fairytale. Lovely historic buildings, tasteful mix of new into the old.

Room was a tiny bit dated. Some of the facilities were not available (eg the Bistro), but since it’s a small place, it’s understandable. Overall I also think the hotel could make visitors more aware of the history and details of the amazing property.

    10IanPosted on: 11-17-2023

Breakfast / food in general was fantastic and the hotel was a great location with easy access to Dusseldorph and surrounding areas.

    9KarenPosted on: 11-10-2023

The park is gorgeous. Very well-maintained grounds. The staff were impeccable. Food was great.

Staying in a junior suite, there were small things that were out of place. E.g. broken toilet paper holder, broken sink stopper. The luggage closet also contained the minibar.

Fantastic Hotel and Breakfast was extraordinary. The Landscape and the Building itself. Really worth a trip! Quite and well located - very close to Essen.

Dinner was only from 18-21.00 Uhr and trying to order a dessert after 21.15 was not possible - also trying to get a coffee at 21.30 was mentioned - Coffee machine is off - sorry.. The Restaurant outside in the courtyard definitive does not fit the rest of the place. A bit Pity - Thus only a 4 out of 5.

    6BondPosted on: 8-8-2023

Beautiful building and garden, perhaps now past its best. Not very international clientele or level of service versus a more modern five star hotel.

Breakfast was overpriced and disappointing, not much fresh selection and not worth 30 EUR/pp.
