Pros +
- old hotel in good shape due to good care
- Stayed here on a cycling trip - very suitable for cyclists. Don't think there is a storage shed or room for them but it safe and you can chain them up at the back. Back rooms are quiet. Close to plenty of places to eat dinner and breakfast.
- Great location. comfy bed. convenient for travelling. I am a repeat guest.
Cons -
- coffee cups dirty
- Bit expensive for a shared bathroom. Slightly frosty reception from lady where I collected the key. (at a separate location down the street).

All good
Beds were comphyClean facilities
Bathroom was dated but functional
The outdoor area downstairs was really nice. Beautiful old pub accommodation kept very original
Room was very small. Luckily we didn't have to swing a cat. It would have ended very badly for the cat ? ?
Great location, friendly staff and well presented rooms.
Beautiful sized family room. Authentic history. Fantastic balcony! Loved it!
Maybe more toilet facilities for women
Poor value for $120 per night
The Commercial Travellers House in Gulgong was not good value for money, I think $90 instead of $120 would have been more aligned to other similar pub-rooms and even then the result was disappointing:•There was only 1 toilet and one shower over bath for women (10 rooms in the House). I really don’t mind shared facilities but most pub-hotels have very, very generous toilet and shower facilities.•The bath plug was ancient and couldn’t even hold the water in. I then found that the water had infact somehow leaked down and back up outside the bath through the bathroom floor drain, flooding the bathroom floor!•The was a small kettle provided in my room, but the only source of water was (for me) at the far end of the L shaped corridor; the awkart tap of the toilet sink. This is a hygiene issue and also the kettle didn’t even fit underneath the tap!•Most Pub-hotels offer a guest lounge/kitchen with sink and taps, where guests can make a cup of tea and maybe pop a meal in the microwave and clean up after themselves. It doesn’t have to be fancy, but practical. In conclusion, it is not enough to just rely on the easthetics of being a 19th Century building; you do need to meet certain hospitality standards, especially to charge $120 per night.
The staff at check in were very friendly.
A little expensive considering I had to share a bathroom. But it was clean and tidy.
I liked the cleanliness and the location of the hotel
I didn't like that I couldn't get into the place when I arrived and I had to search for another pub in order to get the key. There were no staff on site. The female toilets weren't really that lockable. The TV in my room didn't work either. I was hoping that I could warm up my takeaway meal when I arrived in my room but there was only a fridge and a kettle. I had to fast for the night.
The room was fine, and the staff were nice.
I didn't like that the property waited until after the free cancellation period and debited my credit card and only then contacted me and said there was work happening on the verandah on boxing day and we couldn't stay there but they transferred us to their other motel across the road. I wish they were a bit more honest and had contacted me earlier and I would of had the option to book elsewhere at a place of my choosing. We did not see anyone working on the verandah at the Commercial Travellers during our stay.

Great location. Good value and comfortable room. Suited our purpose passing through.
All ok.
Comfortable bed, with good quality sheets. The shared bathroom is fine, with a great shower. Excellent balcony.
Secure bike parking would be a welcome addition
Check in at the pub was fast and easy, staff were lovely and the location was fantastic. Room was a good size.
Bed was a bit soggy and bathrooms were dated but that is to be expected of a building this old. Having said they were dated doesn't mean they were bad. They were super clean.
The room was well equipped, loved electric blankets.
The bar was shut
I brought my own breakfast, so it was delicious. There was a bar fridge in my room to keep my yoghurt in and the IGA around the corner was well stocked with a great variety of foodstuffs. The beds were very comfortable and the reverse cycle air conditioning effective. The Prince of Wales Hotel, which manages the Commercial Travellers House was cosy, full of atmosphere and friendly.
The men's shared bathroom was across the hall from my room, with men's heavy footsteps hitting squeaky floorboards right outside my room on an irregular basis throughout the evening and morning. The Men's facilities featured a full bath, with overhead shower, a second shower, two toilet cubicles and a modern handbasin with mixer taps. The women's facilities, next to the fire escape, had one rather old and tired toilet cubicle, an old fashioned handbasin with separate taps that made hand washing a challenge, and a single bathroom with a full length bath with overhead shower, and no anti-slip matting. The men certainly had a better deal for their money.
Great customer service. Great room even got an electric blanket.
The Men’s bathroom needed a better sign. The women’s shower needed a bit of work
great location. very clean room. very comfy bed. great refurbished building. lovey "speakeasy" bar open on the ground floor. off st parking. super friendly staff at Prince Of Wales hotel where you collect keys. good value for money.
Mens bathroom & toilet doors need fixing - most locks don't lock and doors get stuck.
The old style rooms and halls were all well presented. With lovely runners on the polished floors and curio tables the hall was a welcoming space. The aircon heated the room well and the single bed relatively comfortable. I was greeted in a friendly way and everything carefully explained.
I don’t mind shared bathrooms but this wasn’t in keeping with the care taken with the other areas. Basic doesn’t begin to describe it. Only one shower stall and one toilet had doors with both closed and locked. This seriously needs addressing. The music from the downstairs bar wasn’t over loud but was a nuisance and noise from the street came in through the closed French doors. The bathroom was the main concern though,
