- We loved our stay at Braeside. Andrew went above and beyond to make sure our stay was wonderful. We loved feeding the alpacas and the fresh eggs for breakfast were delicious. We highly recommend Braeside for anyone visiting Mt Macedon and the surrounding area.
Cons -
- While they say breakfast is included, it only kind of is - they provide the materials for breakfast but you have to cook it yourself if you want something cooked (however, the homemade bread they provide is amazing!).
- Absolutely nothing. Everything was great!

Braeside is a hidden gem. Beautiful locale, comfy cabin and a generous host. We stayed in the Barn, located in Braeside's farm. It was right opposite the paddock so the kids could run over to see the alpacas, Sydney and Anzac or the chickens whenever they wanted. All the animals there seem very happy, healthy and well-treated. We were able to see wild kangaroos and our morning alarm clock was the sound of kookaburras. We had fresh bread, fresh eggs and pancakes for breakfast every day. We really could not ask for more.Thank you Andrew for making our stay such a welcoming and comfortable one!
Absolutely nothing. Everything was great!
Breakfast was amazing.Host Andrew went above and beyond for us.Amazing wildlife..Accommodation excellent.
Nothing to not like..
So relaxing! Incredibly well set up, they really had thought of everything! Home made bread, eggs from the chickens outside, and freshly squeezed juice for breakfast! Looks so much better than the photos!
Nothing!
The attention to detail was excellent, set in beautiful gardens & very peaceful. Great location for walks, wineries & so much more. You can feed the resident alpacas, there’s lots of native birds, duck & kangaroos come down from the bush in the late afternoon. Very generous breakfast provided. The host is excellent.
Our host Andrew was exceptional. He greeted us the minute we arrived, provided a range of delicious homemade breakfast provisions, including homemade quince jam and granola and was quick to replenish when we run low. He gave great suggestions on what to do and yet was never obstructive. The cottage itself is set on big sprawling grounds that attract a lot of birds. We had everything we needed for a lovely stay
The location was great - tucked away in beautiful Mt Macedon, but close to wineries (Mount Towrong- great restaurant & wine tasting), Hanging Rock & shops for groceries. The breakfast provisions were of an excellent quality & plentiful. The living area was spacious with a wood fire to keep us warm. The bedroom was huge with a very comfortable bed. Andrew, our host made sure we were very well looked after. We look forward to stopping in here again.
We had a wonderful stay. Thank you very much to Andrew for his exceptional hospitality. The cottage is super cosy, clean and has everything you could think of and even more. The beds are pretty comfortable.
We had a wonderful 2 day stay amongst nature at Breaside! Our 2yr old daughter absolutely in love with the place and her new friends she found in the estate - Chickens, Alpacas and Kangaroos! Meeting and feeding them was such a highlight of the trip for us. We took our parents along with us and stayed in gardeners cottage, the cottage was cozy which was good enough to accommodate 4 people and a toddler. Andrew provided generous breakfast options of fresh homemade bread, Organic Eggs and local produce and was very attentive in ensuring we had enough throughout our trip. He also went out of his way to drop and pick us from Forest glade gardens so that we could avoid walking a lot with our little one and parents(it was ANZAC weekend and autumn season). Thank you Andrew for making our stay so pleasant ? and your personalised gifts! we'll definitely be highly recommending Braeside to anyone thinking of visiting!
The place was just beautiful. The breakfast, all the little details, the bath, the little birds that came in the morning, Sydney and Anzac (alpacas), the fresh eggs, just a wonderful experience. Andrew runs the place and you can see the effort to make you feel cosy and welcomed
Braeside Retreat was such a beautiful property, a secret getaway tucked from the rest of the world. The room / cabin was extremely cozy and so well thought out, every single detail was so well planned and done amazingly. Amenities were great!
Data / signal is hard to get in the Mount Macedon area, so don’t forget to plan ahead!
The Gardners Cottage was wonderful! We had the fire going at night and it was just the right size to feel cozy with the whole family while still feeling spacious. The owners were great and very helpful with all of our needs and the kids loved feed sign the Alpacas in the mornings! We highly recommend!
Breakfast was fabulous and in good quantity and quality; host was very helpful and friendly; Fireplace was a very nice feature; it was warm and cozy regardless outside temperature
Quiet and cosy, it's a place to relax and chill. The host is very friendly and suggested places to visit. Good fireplace that keeps the rooms warm. Bacons and eggs for self cooked breakfast are great.
Wifi is weak in the bedroom. Small bathroom. Suggest to put antislip mat for safety.
Beautiful cottage. Lovely big bedroom with comfy bed. Bathroom well provisioned. Kitchen and sitting area very cosy and warm. Generous breakfast with eggs from hens on the property. We were even given a dozen as a leaving gift! Fresh bread on arrival. Andrew a most welcoming host and nothing too much trouble. His attention to detail is rare. This is a jewel in the Macedon Ranges and we will be back.
Nothing!
