Pros +
- Close to the city center
- The breakfast was ok, not great. Coffee was very strong the first few days. And eggs, while done well, were cold twice. The staff was great and helped as much as they could…. Even helping with our luggage up and down from the third floor!
- The Best Location. Easy to walk everywhere I want to go. Many cafes and restaurants are nearby. Even though my flight was very early in the morning, the staff helped me get the taxi.
Cons -
- The room textiles ( curtains, carpets etc) looked old and worn. There were leaks in the central courtyards, with a lot of water accumulation
- Street noise
- I could not find any point in a bad or worse situation. The local restaurant, Leon, is only a few buildings away and is very nice.

The staff was the highlight of our stay. Extremely friendly and helpful. Especially the manager, Daniel. It has a very central location, it was very clean, comfortable and welcoming.
Everything was good.
Very secure and clean
Rooms where warm, they needed air conditioning or ceiling fans
The hotel is right off the historic center making it a wonderful location to base yourself at while in Cuenca. The building is charming and beautiful, and the staff are friendly and helpful. Someone was always at the front desk no matter the hour and were able to answer any of our questions. Our room was spacious, clean and bright. The only thing to note is there is no elevator (that we saw) so be ready for some stairs. We didn't find it a problem but for any travelers with mobility or health issues this may be a consideration when booking.
The staff was my favorite part they were so friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and tastefully decorated. It is located in. Great part of town and yet was still quiet at night.
Great historic hotel 2 blocks from Parque Calderón. Spacious and cosy room. Staff helpful arranging tours and transportation. Breakfast included and was good.
Great quick breakfast and great central location.
Towels in the room were thin and cheap in my opinion …. Had issues with power plugs but staff moved things around to accommodate.
Pristine and welcoming, the staff were very professional and kind with attention to detail (for example they prepared us breakfast to go because we had an early morning flight). The breakfast was a traditional Ecuadorian and flexible to our needs, really enjoyed the stay there.
Couple blocks from the main square in Centro Historico. Super nice staff. Fantastic breakfast. Old style but with character room.
Great location great building architecture
The building is not well maintained, our room was extremely noisy (street noise and poor phonic insulation), poor quality of services.
An excellent location near parque Calderon in the heart of the historic Center. We have stayed in many hotels in Cuenca but never really 'found our spot'. We are happy to stay that Hotel Carvallo is 'the spot'. We loved everything about it: The breakfast, the amazing staff, the room, the incredible shower. Very quiet and comfortable and great value.
location
the room on booking it said has a balcony & hotel hadn't got balconies. Rooms have windows facing indoor courtyard & we had a small window in the corner & room very dark. breakfast was a bit messy sometimes we ordered & others a bit of a buffet
We rented the suite so had a large amount of comfortable space to be in. Beautiful!
Had I known we were across from a nightclub, I would not have booked this room! Music was very loud until late hours!
The hotel was in the historic district and classic. It was so fun to stay in an estate that had been turned into a hotel. The breakfast was excellent and the staff treated us like family.
Loved everything. One suggestion would be to research the history of the hotel. Who was the first family? Who was the architect? Who else lived in the property. Guests love knowing the history of old hotels. we loved our stay.
Friendly, helpful staff, great location, good breakfast, large room. Hot shower
Room a bit cold after sundown though staff brought us a heater. Bathroom needs upgrading
good price and location
breakfast could be better
Huge bed, high ceilings and antique furniture. What this hotel lacks on technology of a modern 5 star, it certainly excels in style.
As everything is old here, so is the bathroom.
Loved the staff, front desk superior service. House keepers very professional and helpful.
Reserved the suite, however its located in the front of the hotel. The traffic, train, late night motorcycles was very loud and disturbing. It was as if they were in the Suite plus really COLD temp.(didn't sleep, stayed awake)the first night in that suite and requested a change of room the following day. That was not an issue, I downgraded to a standard room. My dissapointed is I should have been reimbursed for the Suite charge, and charge for the downgrade which was considerable less. I asked, that was not afforded me, instead I was credited for laundry and a dinner charge $45.50. Very disappointed. Other than this everything else ok.
