    • The location is great with bars and restaurants on either side of hotel and lots of action with kite surfers. Staff super friendly and a very nice hotel beach lounge. Nice breakfast.
    • I was pleasantly surprised by this property. I loved that they didn’t allow day visitors. So the place was for the guests only. It wasn’t overrun by kids, it’s a good spot for a couple.
    • My absolute favorite hotel in Zanzibar! The location is gorgeous, the beach in front of the hotel is one of the prettiest you’ll see here and everyone from check-in to the restaurant will make you feel so welcome and is so friendly!Restaurant has amazing food options (try the catch of the day!), the ac is in the room works perfectly and the bed is sooo comfy! Will literally always come back here when I’m in Zanzibar :)

    Cons -

    • Dinner menu
    • I’d rather they just turn the power off if they can’t get the generator to work. For all 3 nights we’re were there it was clicking on and off — for a sensitive noise sleeper it was driving me nuts.
    • The pillows in the room are a bit hard but after asking about in at reception, they immediately brought me another one which was perfect

The vibes were really simple, clean, pleasant to be there.Small property but such a diverse place!Malon, Josie and Lu were the kindest, friendliest people I’ve met in a hotel.

No iron in the room but they did iron my clothes upon request no charge.

there is no hot water !the rooms looks old and not mainanted , but i must say it's very clean Since the tab water cannot be used for drinking or washing teeth i expect to have free bottle of water in the room , but there wasn't , in stead of that they offer to refel a glass bottle with a fee of 2 dolara per day , in my case we didn't use this water and the house leeping didn't fill it even thoght the hotel requested the monry on th check out, i insest to not pay eventualy they accepted it

We absolutely loved our stay at Maisha Matamu. The location in Paje is fantastic, and the hotel itself has a cozy, boutique feel that makes you instantly relax. Check-in was smooth, parking was easy, and every member of the staff—from reception to restaurant to security—was incredibly friendly and welcoming. The rooms are very close to the beach, so it is super convenient to pop back and forth during the day. The bar and restaurant are close to the sunbeds, which made the service impressively fast—something we really appreciated. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and overall we had a wonderful time.

The only downside was the sunbeds were very close to each other, and the hotel allowed outside guests to access the beach area with day passes, which made it feel a bit too crowded at times. However if you are looking for a fun and social vibe, it works well.

Maisha Matamu is situated right on the beach, it was beautiful! Rooms although small, were cleaned daily. Staff were all very friendly and helpful.

When it rained, it came through the roof..even though we were on the bottom floor of the huts. Bathroom facilities could be improved, it was a wet room.

terrible experienceseeing mice walking around inside your room on top of your luggage is something terrifying. The location on the beach is excellent and it is the only thing this hotel has.

In the early morning hours, when the it's quit, i have seen a Mouse walk over my lagguage twice.the managers say they have put mouse traps, but the problem has remained. the managers justify themselves by saying that they are "naturalistic" type rooms, instead they should seriously address this problem and rent the rooms only after having solved the problem, they should tell them that there are mouse disinfectants. If it happens to you, they will say that it is your fault because you did not respect the rule of not bringing food into the room. 5 days spent looking around at every moment. you will see european liquors on display like Absolut vodka, you will pay 10 dollars, but they will put a local vodka of very poor quality and if you ask for Absolut vodka they try to make you change your mind, because that is only for display. so the standard and style is disguised as european, but it is not.

I stayed here in December 2024. I had a fantastic time. Great location and friendly stuff made my 15 day stay exceptional. Thank you!

Skip this place, we left several days early!

Prepare for the very basics at a top price: no luxuries included even in a deluxe hotel room (no drinking water, no glasses, no shampoo, old matrasses, often no electricity or electricty with such low voltage you cannot even charge your phone). And the airconditioning provided is broken. The hotel management is unresponsive and rude: they just left during conversation and did not fix antything. One night the electricty died completely and they still did not bother putting the generator on - for the entire hotel. Finally, next door is a party place, and they continue till late. For a hakuna matata experience: skip this place!!

The hotel is right on the beach which is amazing, and it is a short walk from town or from other places on the beach.

We were given the room closer to reception and given the electricity problem the generator was on very often at very uncomfortable times like 3 am or 6 am. So many nights we could not sleep and had to go ask to turn it off as it was too early

Stunning property right on the beach where you can walk from your room into the ocean without so much as putting on shoes. Loungers are protected so you can sit in the sun or shade and leave your things all day long. Good location in Paje just a short walk from town and other restaurants and places to go out.

Breakfast could be more robust. Coffee and hot water ran out regularly. There's a cafe downstairs you can order espresso drinks and it would be nice to have one included with breakfast given the other coffee is not great.

Local staff was simply amazing, polite and friendly, trying to accommodate all your needs at its finest.

2 German ladies who looks like they are managing the property were lack of manners , completely unaware of basics of hospitality and how to welcome their guests. We arrived at 9 am which was earlier then check in time and while I was trying to ask if possible to let us go in the rooms earlier, whenever is possible as we had very long journey , one of them was keep interrupting me without letting me finish which I found very rude and unprofessional from someone who is managing the property.Time was passing and 2 pm clocked however no one came to invite us to the rooms , meanwhile we spent time at the beach beds.Once I went to reception at 2:05 pm to check when rooms will be ready , as check in supposed to be at 2 pm , other German lady showed up and took over local receptionist who was very kind , and started talking that they need another 30 min to get rooms ready , again with no manners to let me talk or to give a chance to listen my concerns, and pushed me to ask her if I am the guest there or she is the one ?Simply I asked why they need over 4 hours to clean the room as check out is at 10 am, with no appropriate answer I had to wait until 2:30 pm into the room.Property itself is beautiful with amazing local staff , but unfortunately it’s managed with someone who is lack of basic hospitality knowledge.

Lovely location and staff. Hotel and facilities simple but nice. Breakfast and the food in the bar was the only thing that was not good. Luckily there is a lot of good restaurans in Paje 10 to 15 min walk from there.

The location and the bar/breakfast/ sun beds areas .

It rained in our room from the ceiling. We had a deluxe double room. Also the shower cap in our bathroom was broken. Maybe got to refurbish the rooms a bit ☺️

    The beach was close

It didn’t look like how it was described. The room we got was right at the end, nothing like what we imagined and for the price we paid it was not worth it at all, We also had no working Wi-Fi. No blankets and there was no remote to control the AC in the room.

The hotel is fantastically located on the beach, with an atmospheric restaurant overlooking the shore and a beautiful relaxation area. The staff is very helpful and friendly, creating a joyful and pleasant atmosphere. The property is definitely worth recommending. And the food is exquisite!

Stunning location, surrounded by the nicest management. Thanks a lot for making our stay special and I’m sure we’d see you again. -food was great, served by the coolest staff. Betty, rose, big G, gifty, Georgina you’ll see them everyday and it’s exceptional service-premium alcohol with happy hour (5-7) every day/ you can take them onto the beach and chill in the pool.-The feeling of just walking round the complex without shoes heading right to the beach is just so cool for the price you pay. The dogs that chill there are loving the sun too! -you can hire mopeds from the reception-they have BBQ nights and beach parties on Wednesday. Lunch is really good and you can also venture out the complex for other restaurants. -very comfy sunbeds that the boss brought from Thailand! -I loved the fact these guys just made the stay really personable and I really appreciated that.

Nothing wrong, however the premium rooms have very good air condition, so would recommend them.

    Bad

Im never one to leave a bad review but for this place its needed! We were supposed to stay for 3 nights but ended up leaving after the first one and booked another hotel as we were very disappointed with our room for the price we paid for! When we first had trouble with the lock so a staff members had to go get a new one. When we closed the door we noticed a really big gap in it which people from the outside can easily see straight through if walking past so i had to hang a rug to cover it as there was no privacy there. Not to mention the bottom of the door was broken where ants constantly kept coming inside. Next we noticed the small fan provided was broken and there was no fan in the ceiling which was disappointing considering how hot it gets on the island. After checking in we went to get lunch where we waited 1 hour and 45 minutes for our meals to arrive.Later that night when I went to have a shower the hand piece completely broke off as soon as I picked it up.The mosquito net had multiple holes in it, in which we got bitten several times throughout the night. The people upstairs kept us up all night with constant walking around and moving items etc, as our ceiling was their floor you could hear even the slightest little movement. To top it off the hostel next door had loud music on till early hours of the morning. The next morning I went to reception asking if there was another room available and told him all the issues we had and he said they ere fully booked out, so I said to him we didn't want to stay here anymore and if it was possible to get a refund for at least one night. He said I would need to contact booking.com and so I did just that. For nearly 2 weeks booking.com was trying to contact them via email and phone but there was no response. As well as i went in on 4 separate occasions asking them to please reply as they are trying to contact them.

Everything was perfect, especially the location and the extremely kind, smiling, and helpful staff. I will definitely come back.
