    Pros +

    • the history of the building.spacious room, great environment. Saw deer in the backyardreasonable pricegreat breakfastgreat giftshop
    • Very good location. Historic hotel with period “western style rooms”
    • This is a beautiful, old hotel with a lot of character. Our room was spacious for 3 and still cozy. Having a free shuttle to and from the hotel was a bonus.

    Cons -

    • I did book the room with 3 people on booking.com, but still asked for an extra charge for the 3rd person. I am not sure if it was my mis-understanding or booking.com did not provide information correctly.
    • Hotel staff was a bit snooty.
    • I’ll start with the fact that there was a dead cockroach stuck to some sticky paper laying on the floor next to our bed (photo attached. I moved it to the balcony the balcony). They don’t respond to messages via bookings. A pot of tea costs 20 US dollars and a 20 dollar glass of wine is less than a quarter filled. It was a nice perk that they have a shuttle - but he took us to the wrong train station when we were very specific. The whole hotel is a train wreck. I would never recommend to anyone. It was the worst place we stayed in Japan and one of the worst I’ve ever stayed at.

The outside was pretty and that’s about all I liked

Clean and comfortable room. Beautiful view of deer. A few sources of warm and cool lighting. Natural wood shower and bath.

Why too outdated ,too expensive for what you get, smells like old building, too far from everything You’ll have to get a bus or have a car

    9DenisaPosted on: 7-19-2025

Everything! Great food, lovely location and fantastic room.

Takes a long time to get taxi. Rooftop closed. Beer restaurant closes early.

    5AnnaPosted on: 4-29-2025

The staff and location were excellent. Shuttle bus that takes to you the 2 main stations on a regular basis. Bicycles available, but didn't get to try them out. Historical references, lots of lounge area space. Tea lounge special with a view on the garden.

Regretfully we believe value for money, it didn't seem to add up to others in the same ballpark in terms of amenities. Would expect there to be at minimum wellness and fitness facilities. The western breakfast was sub-par, we didn't try lunch nor dinner.

We loved the Nara Hotel, don't look further if you like historic hotels, this one and it's staff are outstanding! Drinks at the bar were relaxing and the atmosphere was charming.

    Nothing could have been better.

    Historical. Lovely building and surroundings.

Bathroom not upgraded with times. No facilities such as common bath or sauna.

    8JimingPosted on: 2-24-2025

Deers come in the morning, you and child can feed them at the room balcony. The experience is quite memorable.

A beautiful, historic property well situated in Nara. Very helpful and attentive staff.

Need vegetarian options for in hotel dining.

    9BrionPosted on: 2-16-2025

Room was great. It was in the old part with high ceilings and lots of wood. Location was wonderful for exploring Nara - most things were within walking distance.

Would like to have had coffee in the lounge or lobby in the morning. In- room coffee only goes so far.

    8AinsliePosted on: 1-18-2025

Beautiful location and well positioned for the things we had planned. Nara Hotel offered delightful old world charm and an unexpectedly spacious room. We enjoyed cocktails with some supper in the lobby bar on the evening of our arrival. The following day started with coffee and cake in the tea lounge, and deer enjoying the sun right outside the window. Exceptional staff service.

    Nothing springs to mind.

History, character, shop selection was wonderful!

Bath room is a bit tired!

    8XiaoyuPosted on: 12-25-2024

It is quite nice for free parking.

Using the old version keys and have to hand it to the front reception when we go out of the hotel.

A historic building right in the middle of Nara Park.Beautiful gardens right in front and you can see deers at your balcony doors . What a pleasant surprise !

The renovation looks abit outdated but overall the rooms are the biggest in Japan . Breakfast buffet is expensive.

    8ThomasPosted on: 12-6-2024

Historic property .It was great to rent electric -assisted properties at the hotel's front door.Hotel provides regular shuttle to train stations.Wonderful staff.

After staying there 3 nights I had the impression it was a hotel that catered mainly to Japanese visitors.People wore suits /ties and exquisite dresses to dinner. So it was a nice change from so many other hotels which cater mainly to foreigners. No gym,no pool.Breakfast offered set a la carte options only-no buffet.
