About
A haven of peace and tranquility, this traditional English country house is in a unique rural setting, surrounded by beautiful gardens and a 60 acre lake, yet only 12 miles from historic Chester. Set within a grand Victorian mansion, the hotel features 28 bedrooms and 8 suites, most of which enjoy spectacular views of the lakes and gardens. All rooms are beautifully furnished and individually designed, many with antique furnishings, Persian rugs and lots of extra touches to give that home-away-from-home feeling. The area plays host to a wide variety of activities, from shopping and sightseeing in nearby Chester, to motor racing at the nearby Oulton Park Racing Circuit, or country pursuits such as clay pigeon and laser shooting, archery and golf. For the more adventurous, hot air ballooning and off-road racing are also available nearby.

Pros +
- The remote location was lovely and the surroundings. The rooms were huge and very clean, they are also my type of setting and the bathroom was amazing. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the bar was lovely and cosy.
- Good location
- It is a lovely peaceful hotel in a stunning location. The grounds are beautiful and the staff are lovely and approachable
Cons -
- We could hear everyone walking around above us, this wasn’t a huge problem but it was just very noticeable. Also like some other hotels there is a 10% service charge on drinks which I am not a fan of. I understand it’s tips for staff but I would prefer to tip if I felt appropriate. It does say that you can request to remove it with your server, but no one is likely to do that as it would feel embarrassing to do so.
- Room spacious but slightly tired. Food good. Drink prices reasonable. Staff attentive
- We were lied to about our upgrade we were given the smallest room right next to the lift that never stopped going up and down I know this hotel well and know my room was the most basic so had not been upgraded the receptionist was rude and I decided to just go bed, had no sleep at all with the noise and the heating was full blast. The room was also dirty scraped on the wall, mold around the shower door and dirty marks in the carpet.Actually shocked as this used to be a lovely place gone very downhill and customer service is useless I can now see why the prices for this place are so cheap I would of been happier in a Premier Inn

Nothing I was lied to when I arrived we upgraded our room and was told we hadn't

Spacious , remote , lovely scenery
Bed too soft
Loved rural location of hotel. So tranquil and quiet. Loads of car parking spaces. Booked a suite so we had lots of space, a huge comfy bed, an enormous bathroom with lovely bathrobes, slippers and towels. This was a luxurious suite and we enjoyed our stay here.
The coffee machine in the room kept leaking water everywhere. We did report this twice on two different days but we had the issue every time we made a coffee. We stayed 4 nights so we would have appreciated this being resolved as we were concerned about the water damage to the dresser and the soaking wet carpet.
The surroundings were lovely and staff couldn't do enough.
Room was dated unlike the photos advertised on the website.
This is a stunning heritage hotel in beautiful grounds. Our room was HUGE but rather dated. A 0.75m2 shower in a 10m2 bathroom doesn't really do the space justice.Plenty of hot water. Lovely views.Nice staff.Value for money is OK, but would happily pay a bit more for better.
The shower....A lack of heating when you want it on arrival, and too much very early in the morning.Decor is a bit tired and the bed/linen not the best.Car charging is expensive (3rd party probably making more profit than the hotel).
Lovely old house , comfortable and not pretentious
While offers are great for two people , not good for. Just one Drinks also on the high side especially coffee
Amazjng location, ambiance, staff and exceptional value for.money
Charge for late checkout was 25 percent of the overall suite cos for 2 hours extra, tackly fleece.them on the way out approach needs dropping
Nuns Mere Hotel is in a great area close to Chester Tarporley, great to walk around the grounds.Anyone coming here to stay is in for a real treat the food either is fabulous , breakfast all served fresh, everything is top class.
The rooms are nice and big and clean. Staff are wonderful and excellent value for money.
The breakfast menu could be expanded as regards hot food.

Room was cold - heating was off at night. Room was outdated and bugs and mould in the bathroom.WiFi was working intermittently only.Low value for this price.
Lovely staff, very clean, comfortable bed and good EV charging system.
- EV charging spaces not marked out, so other cars were parked in the way.-The irritating flurry of unnecessary and officious emails received between booking and checking in.
Location is fabulous All the staff are amazing Property is stunning
Bed slightly uncomfortable after 3 days
The property had character, history, with large beautiful landscaped grounds & accompanying lakes, & all well maintained. All staff, were friendly, like-able, polite, very efficient, a good team & all in all very Professional. Food, as per breakfast was very good & could not fault. Our executive room was one of the largest we’ve stayed in & Our 3 night stay was great value for money compared to other hotel / pub - restaurant establishments. Shower was powerful & water as were the radiators - hot with no complaints!Main function of the hotel is as a Wedding Venue & would appear to offer a good & let’s say a value for money basic package deal with expandable options & add on’s to best suit ‘client’ & couples needs. As ours was a Winter trip away visiting family in the area - so let’s say, the hotel was of course operating ‘outside’ it’s High Season of Wedding functions etc which in our case made the hotel affordable & a very pleasant stay.
Nothing comes to mind………..but if trying to make an independent booking in the hotel’s High period / season of functional Weddings etc then maybe our stay may not have been possible &/or viewed slightly differently. Best check & speak openly with the Hotel Manager as necessary if sharing the hotel with a wedding party & guests!!
Country House setting, lovely spacious room and bathroom. Very enthusiastic and professional staff, good breakfast
Late arrival so dinner option was not available. The Hotel has a restaurant which is not marketed to the public. It is more an event destination (not necessarily a negative)

The period surroundings and features. The good sized room. Excellent shower over bath. Photo friendly location and interior. The lake view was good.
Breakfast selection good but slightly more choice would have been nice.
Photos on the website is absolutely nothing like the room i was given - it was old, dirty and smelt
