    Pros +

    • Very helpful staff
    • Brilliant location, very nice staff, decent food and great atmosphere for dinner. Comfortable bed.
    • Nicely styled, historic… comfortable.

    Cons -

    • Our room was superb but it was outside and up some steep stairs. This was not mentioned on the website.
    • Very expensive for what it was. Very small shower - disappointing given price. Breakfast was especially disappointing - not enough staff, self service Continental was very minimal (one granola, one loaf, and fruit only) and ran out of mugs and spoons. Self service coffee machine leading to queues - and disappointing coffee. Felt chaotic and unpleasant. Actual cooked breakfast was decent though.
    • The food was good but not great. The kitchen was very loud with shouting chefs at breakfast which was jarring

Beautiful building. Loved that there was live jazz going on when we arrived.

Room was very stuffy- difficult to sleep. Breakfast was OK but slightly underwhelming. Bacon overcooked and leathery. Loved the fancy coffeemaker.

The George was charming, each room different and lovely. My room was very large and had a terrace. It was a great location

Perfect location. Comfortable bed. Friendly staff.

There was too much lime juice in the avocado mash recipe, all guests were leaving it aside, basically not edible.

    Hotel in great location

We loved this stylish hotel, it was full of life and the interiors were lovely. The staff were very welcoming from reception to the restaurant. We were upgraded which was a treat to a junior suite. Lots of space. So centrally located and easy to get around the town to see all the sights. We would stay again.

Not wanting to complain as we were upgraded the only downside on the room were quite a small bed and would have preferred a super king (suite are advertised as having super kings) and we were right next to the lift and that was more noisy than expected. The pigeon poo outside the entrance door into the room should have been cleaned away. The restaurant was a lovely space but felt that if you were going to eat there more than 1 night the menu was not varied enough.

Very good location, staff were very friendly especially at the restaurant and breakfast. Bed was very comfortable and rooms were very clean.

Was a little cold but was fine.

Excellent hospitality and amazing friendly staff. The room was way comfortable and clean than expected. Location is great!

Fantastic room in a lovely hotel! The location was excellent, the room (despite being a 'cosy' room) was spacious and had all the little extras you could want - including a cafetiere and ground coffee. The shower was huge and powerful and there was a smart TV with Netflix, Disney etc. There was also a fan in the room which we really appreciated as it was unseasonably warm and humid when we visited. The breakfast was delicious and the staff were friendly and helpful. We couldn't fault it

    Nothing!

The room was lovely and very comfortable and the hotel a great location. Downsides were - we forgot toothpaste but the hotel had no toiletry items available even to buy which I have never experienced in a hotel of this calibre. Unfortunately the restaurant food was dreadful. Only option to have with steak was frozen chips, no salad and no veg. For an extra £2 we had a sad little plate of real potato cubes. The so called fish fritter was a regular fish in batter with a pea purée with was piped like icing on top of the fish which had overcooked batter. The menu needs a total revamp - local burger with hand cut chips- locally caught grilled fish - a delicious veggie option- and vegetables included in the meals!

We loved the property, it was excellent, the staff were always helpful and friendly, amazing courtyard and spacious venue. Only thing we didn’t realise the radiator was behind the chair so a bit chilly when waking up and the mattress was very firm. That’s just preference though. We loved our stay so a big thank you to the team

Great location. Breakfast was great. Staff friendly.

The room was quite tight for 2 people. Nice big bath.

Breakfast & service really greatThe character & feeling of luxury

Dusty blinds & lamps let you down

    10DavidPosted on: 3-28-2025

The staff we were very friendly and helpful, a huge asset for any company, we couldn't ask for more

The parking, walking up the hill with those suitcase's and we are getting older unfortunately. The room was fantastic but right at the top again a struggle at all of the steps.

    9DarralPosted on: 3-26-2025

Breakfast was lovely, we had eggs Benedict on sourdough bread with freshly squeezed orange juice and tea, the room was very spacious and quiet

    8NigelPosted on: 3-26-2025

Lovely hotel with a decent bar and large restaurant. Breakfast was excellent.

Our room was very small and quite poorly lit. Rather expensive for such a small room.
