About
This mid-18th century former inn offers unique rooms, free Wi-Fi, and excellent views of Rye. Built around 1750 for local sailors and ship builders, The Hope Anchor is thought to have once sheltered the Tenterden Gang, who used its old secret passages for smuggling. Relax beside the log fire in traditional cozy bar, and enjoy the individually styled bedrooms, some of which have a four poster bed. In the morning enjoy a delicious traditional full English breakfast or if you prefer a lighter continental breakfast of cold meats and cheeses, yogurt and fresh fruit salad or maybe even have both!! all served in our breakfast room. (Please note we do not serve lunches or evening meals) Couples particularly like the location — they rated it 9.4 for a two-person trip. We speak your language! The Hope Anchor has been welcoming Booking.com guests since 18 May 2010

Cons -
- The room was small but I was expecting that. The carpet had old stains from normal wear of dirty shoes but could have been covered with rugs or something . The shower at first looked very clean until my wife noticed the shower head. It was disgusting and had not been cleaned ever by the looks of it. Its a shame as it is lovely building but this let it down . The worst thing was on the back of the bathroom door there were hairs stuck to it. the short and curly kind. No idea what was going on there,.
- Now it has been taken over by a bigger hotel it really needs updating and it is not getting the TLC it deserves
- rooms could do with a little upgrade, wallpaper dirty and in restaurant it was nearly falling of the wall in places

Lovely older pub/hotel with nice view of Rye and river. Easy walk to High street shopping area. Ok to drive up and drop off bags and then found parking easily in market parking lot for the night.
bit confusing to drive up small street and drop of bags - but ok in the end.
comfortable, big room, cozy bar, yummy breakfast, and the hotel is right in the heart of Rye history and part of its history. Danielle and Amy were so great. They were friendly, helpful and easy to chat with. Our daughter's room also was quite comfortable. We also appreciated that it was just above the main historic commercial area, super quick to get there, but also felt very quiet and just cobblestone steps away from historic church, castle/prison and fabulous Ypes Castle pub.
Location
On arrival we got a completely different room than we paid. For once we entered the room. It was covered in. Dust hadn’t been hoovered and had bird droppings on the wardrobe disgusting condition.
Lovely hotel in an ideal location. Staff friendly and accommodating, couldn't do enough to make sure we enjoyed our stay.
This is a charming hotel on top of a hill, just around the corner from the main attraction street of Rye. The hotel is cosy, staff are friendly, polite and helpful. The room is really nice, bed is comfortable, the view is fantastic. Breakfast is excellent. It is quiet and still located within three minutes walk from the main street. I would love to stay there again!

Staff friendly, good location for visiting the historic town.
No parking at the hotel.
Good location close to town with welcoming helpful staff.
The room could have been cleaner (the carpet looked like it has seen better days and the night stands hadn’t been dusted in a while). The room was incredibly small even for Europe and the mattress was worn down to the springs.
The location was excellent. They have limited parking onsite. We parked in nearby car park. Breakfast was good and gluten free accommodating. Charming, old historic hotel. A good nights sleep.
We arrived late, in the dark. Trouble finding a correct, direct way to hotel. Not really an enthusiastic, welcoming staff.
Very cute town. Very cute place. Views were lovely.
We got a room with a tiny shower and it needed some pain in there.
Very nice host and a homely comfortable hotel, with a cosy bar. The room was lovely - spacious and a great bathroom and shower. Good TV. And a great breakfast the next morning.
Tiny things but the mattress was a bit soft, and we were placed right beside another couple at breakfast whereas it would have been nicer to be more spaced out as the room was fairly empty.

Difficulties with access due to narrow roads and cobblestones.
Overall, the ambience and the hotel was nice. The location is superb too as you can pretty much walk to all of the tourist attractions within less than 5 minutes (i know it's a small town, but still, they are in the hot area).
One of our towels is wet but they fold and prepare it for us anyway, i did inform the staff and they regretted it and said sorry about that. Some stains on the chair as well.
Breakfast was excellent. Rachael was especially welcoming and helpful.
We are in our 80s. Climbing the stairs with luggage was a challenge.
Staff were very friendly and accommodating and were really lovely checking in with me before arrival and helping me with my plans.
Room was very tired, a bit grubby (e.g stains on walls) and not completely clean. I stayed here a few years ago and I didn’t remember it to be like this.
not as described on booking .com
no parking had to park out of town, bedroom carpet dirty, lights failed in bathroom bed uncomfortably
Good, freshly cooked breakfast.Very good, historic location.Lots of character.
A bit noisy ftom next door room.
