    Pros +

    • Cost was appropriate for the place. Although it could be noisy for some guests having a room (2nd floor for us) right on the main street of the town, I did not mind the sound of traffic or the bar across the street.
    • Clean hotel with very friendly staff..
    • There is no longer a free breakfast included. It is an extra charge.

    Cons -

    • Parking behind our building (across from the main hotel) was minimal and difficult to get into. Not sure first-floor guests would feel comfortable sleeping with the window open since it's right on the street.
    • Many stairs and narrow staircase. Check in is through the restaurant.
    • We stayed in the Twin room directly opposite the pub. The room was fine, but the mattress was unsleepable and caused back issues for days afterwards. If the mattress is replaced, this would become a good accommodation option. We also had dinner in the pub and one of our meals was really ordinary - the venison was tough and the 'red wine jus' described was just standard gravy.

The Station Hotel is located in Alness a quiet village a short drive from Inverness. Its location is ideal for exploring the area including a train station for scenic rides. The staff were welcoming, the building with four modern and comfortable rooms is located in the old jail house. Meals are served across the street in the hotel. Nearby are scenic forest walks along the river. Don't miss The Station Hotel.

Clean, simple but well-appointed room in new annex opposite original hotel building. Charming staff. Convenient to train station. Excellent breakfast.

Lots of stairs to get to room (no elevator).

Lovely hotel, amazing super friendly staff. Lovely feel to the place.

Bedroom was so tiny barely big enough for 2 people. You can not pull out the dressing table chair as no room. Sink was tiny. This should be a single room.

Perfect location to stay when travelling the NC 500, off-road secure parking I had a single room, which was clean and perfect for my stay. The single bed was comfortable. The restaurant served a cooked breakfast, which set me up for the day. The staff were very polite.

I was placed in the annexe, which is located opposite the hotel, (it does have parking at the rear of the Annexe which is a positive), however the room faces the main road looking over onto the main road and looking straight across into the main hotel. The bay window only has a fitted curtain, which just closes. It would be a suggestion to have fitted blinds to avoid not being overlooked rather than closing the curtains as you enter the room for that extra privacy. My room was only issued with one towel, which was a hand towel!!!, on speaking with the staff who were very apologetic, said the would would sort the issue out for me, i was given a further 3 hand towels.( if I had my sowing kit I would have sown the towels together to make a bath towel). Apart from these little issues, I would happily stay there again.

Everything was exceptionally clean, thank you.

Tiny double room! Should be priced lower and described more honestly. Some of the photos for this room were of a much larger room. It was too warm, the window only opened 2cm and the fan unit was too noisy for sleep. 'Seating area' is single chair at a desk. Bed uncomfortable, springs felt. Not the restful stopover we wanted on our journey.

We stayed in the annexe which is directly opposite The Station. Absolutely stunning! The room was beautifully decorated and spotless as was the shower room. Tea and coffee making facilities were in the room also. Time for breakfast which was served in the hotel itself, so a quick nip across the road and we were greeted with lovely smiles and great service. We all chose the full Scottish breakfast and my word, it was huge! Delicious and filling which set us up for the day. I highly recommend a stay in this warm, welcoming highland hotel where nothing is too much trouble.

Food was excellent, both dinner and breakfast. Staff were great.

A wee bit more attention to detail in the rooms - layout etc would have made it better

The location. Beds comfy nice n warm . Food amazing. Hospitality was outstanding

On main street close to shops etc.Pleasant waiting staff at breakfast on 2nd day.

Offhand way young member of staff checked us in on arrival. Room was actually in an annex across the road from hotel. Had to put on outdoor gear to cross busy road to go for meal or a drink in hotel. Thin walls in annex so could hear any movement in upstairs room sometimes. Basic room with only basic storage. Two small bedside tables and a hanging rail on wheels. One cupboard built in with random things stuffed in it. Main lighting very bright and clinical. Bathroom functional but looked like a hospital shower room.Food run of the mill.

Good location for next day travel. Good evening meal and breakfast. Staff great. Off street private parking. Lovely old building.

The small room on top floor, fine for 1 night would not have liked to have spent a week in it especially as my husband is tall. The cooking smell from the kitchen drifted up the stairs to the bedrooms. Maybe updating the hotel a little but that takes lots of money, which in turn would push up prices.

    Location on the Main Street

We stayed in the house across the road from the main building. Room 2 at the rear. There was a smell of dampness in the room. This was traced to the bathroom where there is a bad damp problem behind the cistern. It looks like there is a leaking supply pipe inside the wall. This needs addressed asap. The bedroom had two single beds, creaky, but only one bedside light. This isn’t convenient, each bed should have a light. The room generally was tired. I could see why it wasn’t too expensive
