About

Located in the heart of Whitley Bay, this family-run hotel has offered both holidaying guests and contractors a friendly and high standard of accommodations for over 30 years. We take great pride in the cleanliness and quality of accommodations offered in the Royal Hotel, and are known and remembered fondly by regular visitors for our all inclusive quality, hearty, cooked English breakfasts. Sea view rooms offer panoramic views of Whitley Bay's blue flag beach and iconic St Mary's Lighthouse. All our rooms are en-suite and offer a flat-screen TV, free WIFI, tea/coffee facilities allowing you to rest and refresh with ease. Set on the seafront Promenade and few steps onto Whitley Bay beach, the Royal hotel could be any closer to the sandy beaches and popular promenade full of bustling restaurants and bars. Previous reviews were a bit mixed but I was very pleasantly surprised with the hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff. Fantastic breakfast buffet in the morning with selection of full English breakfast items as well as cereals/juices plus toast and jams. Excellent location on the seafront with parking directly outside for limited number of cars. Incredible value for money and well worth a visit.

The heating wasn't working in the first room I was given but reception quickly transferred me to a different room which was fine. Renovation is taking place outside but didn't affect my stay at all.

Great location, parking is free which we were lucky to get.

The room was freezing when we arrived. The radiator was turned off by that hotel at some point in the night.

    Exceptional

The room was cold and heater was either on timer or not working properly. Property under renovation so unfair to complain as the price reflected this.

Friendly, wonderful staff, good value! I can’t thank the reception, breakfast staff, and housekeeping enough for their attention, helpful attitude, and constant smiling faces! They go above and beyond what is needed to make the stay at the hotel welcoming, comfortable, and a really enjoyable experience! I have stayed there several times, and they now feel like family to me!

The hotel is being renovated, but it did not impede my stay in any way! The outside scaffolding is to be expected at the moment, and none of the work being done, impacted my stay! The only thing I can think of is the way heat to the rooms is transmitted! However, I brought it to the attention of the hotel and housing staff that I have a condition that makes me feel colder than a regular person! They addressed it, took care of my needs, and I was very happy!

Staff was extremely accommodating. Breakfast was excellent. The hotel is undergoing renovations and eventually will be great. Bathroom shower is a step up situation and needs to more accessible for older guests. Location is perfect. Loved waking up to the sound of seagulls!

Needs handrails in certain parts of hotel.

Room very run down and breakfast of poor quality.

This was our second stay at The Royal and it was outstanding once again. The location is perfect, the staff are exceptionally friendly and professional, and the breakfast was excellent with a great variety. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, and very well appointed with quality amenities. We truly enjoyed our stay and can’t wait to return once the renovation is complete. Highly recommended.

large comfortable room, the shower was hot, breakfasts were great.

the place is a bit of a maze OK once you get to know where your going

    8BarbaraPosted on: 1-5-2026

Our room was a bit cold when we arrived, and the TV remote did not work. We were immediately upgraded to a superior room with a sea view, at no extra charge. It was warm, comfortable and clean. All the staff were friendly and helpful throughout our visit.

The hotel had warned us that the frontage would not look good owing to continuing refurbishments, which we were fine with. However they had not warned us that there would be no lounge or bar facilities either.

    8SuttillPosted on: 1-3-2026

Sea front location near to amenities. Breakfast was very good, and catered well with gluten free options which can be limited in other hotels.

Room was clean not felt a bit tired decor wise.

    8JackiePosted on: 1-2-2026

The room was spacious and the bed comfy.Good value for money when rooms in the city centre were 3 times the price of Whitley bay. The breakfast was plentiful, I just overslept and only had time for a cereal breakfast!

There was a flashing light in the bathroom that i had to turn off as I couldn't do with it.No decaff coffee on the hospitality trayOnly minor details
