Pros +
- We loved our stay at the Dorset Arms! A unique inn full of charm and character, fascinating decor with medieval knights in armour, American Indians in full headdress, bronze sculpture lamps, pretty French lampshades and beautiful classical paintings...so much to admire and so unlike the cold, stark, soulless decor of most modern hotels! Rooms and bathrooms were spotlessly clean, warm and cozy, comfortable and well-maintained. Location was in a quiet residential neighbourhood, with easy access to public transport; also close to the end of Hadrians's Wall, in Wallsend.Newcastle itself is a lovely city to explore, with beautiful architecture, Castle and museums, and a lively Quayside waterfront with views of an amazing number of bridges; also a short drive from the beautiful beach of King Edward’s Bay at Tynemouth with its spectacular Priory ruins of ancient times towering over high craggy cliffs. Lots to explore within easy commutes or driving distances of the inn.Stan is a superb cook and a wonderful host who loves his guests and it shows ! he goes out of his way to give them a warm welcome, and really ensure they are comfortable. Every morning (we stayed 4 days), his freshly-cooked hearty breakfast was absolutely scrumptious, with a vast variety of everything you could possibly want and more for a copious breakfast, even honey from his own bees! A lovely garden and inviting solarium to relax completes the homey picture. We had a wonderful stay, but what made it stand out even more is that Stan went out of his way to be helpful, and was very kind to go the extra mile in providing some extremely valuable and useful information, which was truly encouraging and heartening. If we come back to Newcastle, without question we would stay at the Dorset Arms again, and would heartily recommend it to everyone. Thank you Stan, for being such a wonderful host and for a memorable stay! You truly make the Dorset Arms a home away from home!
- clean, quiet, comfortable
- This place was perfect for me as I wanted to explore newcastle. The innkeeper stan is so friendly and accommodating. I will definitely return to the dorset arms hotel.
Cons -
- This isn't Anything to do with the Inn - only a caution that for those taking public transit, just be careful to verify times of last buses and trains when coming back late in the evening or night ; we almost missed the last bus more than once (our own fault )
- My bed was a little uncomfortable. It could be updated. This is quite common in the UK it seems.
- There was nothing we didn't like.

This place was perfect for me as I wanted to explore newcastle. The innkeeper stan is so friendly and accommodating. I will definitely return to the dorset arms hotel.
Stan the owner of Dorset Arms is a gem of a man. He was very accommodating and warm. He had everything ready to go each morning for the breakfast.
My bed was a little uncomfortable. It could be updated. This is quite common in the UK it seems.
Stan was a great host in this quirkily decorated hotel who, apart from showing us round, dropped us off at the metro twice. Excellent breakfast and the room was clean. Nice fish and chip shop, 'Golden Chippy', just a short walk away. We'd be very happy to stay here again.
There was nothing we didn't like.
Stan was an excellent host. Friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and comfortable
Great host. Friendly, clean, and safe. Great cooked breakfast. My only slight gripe was that I found the bed too soft, but that might just be my preference! Would definitely stay again if I was in the area.
The Dorset arms hotel was just what we needed after walking Hadrian's Wall path! :)The host, Stan, is super friendly, informative and helpful. He went out of his way to help us. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was modern and great.
Nothing, everything was great.
A full English breakfast offered and excepted. Incredible! A fascinating museum like collection of knight s in armor, indians in headrests , garden grounds...a great friendly host
Friendly staff, good breakfast
Bunk bed mattress lumpy
We liked the people. The host and the breakfast staff were all super friendly and nice to chat with. Check-in was simple and easy, the breakfast was good.
This was a strange one. From the photos on Booking, it looks like a fancy shmancy hotel. As we were driving there using our satnav, we were getting closer and closer, but were clearly driving in a middle to lower class neighbourhood. And then there it was, right across the street from homes that were, essentially, one step up from council houses. So it may have been a fancy place back in the day, but now it's just plunk right in the middle of a neighbourhood. Our room was quite dated. Old furnishings; not sure how clean it felt. The cleaners clearly had not moved any furniture when they cleaned, because when I moved one of the chairs, there was scraps of garbage behind the chair and food remnants. The shower was sort of gross-looking--we didn't shower there as a result. So, for what we got, it felt a tad pricy.
Stan the owner is absolutely fabulous and the young lady serving at breakfast was equally lovely. Great gardens and a very relaxed and relaxing place to stay
The host made us feel very welcome and the breakfast was good.
All was very good but it was not the greatest location. It is outside of Newcastle, about a mile from the end of the Hadrian's Wall path.
Very receptive, good breakfast and very clean.
Right from check in to check out, owner Stan was attentive , cooperative, and approachable all the time.Prepared good breakfast for me which was not a part of usual breakfast items. Will visit again .?
Nothing .
Good location. Host was very friendly. Comfortable facilities
Really friendly and welcoming host Location Family room Excellent breakfast
Everything. The proprietor Stan is a lovely chap who is extremely friendly and helpful. Made us both feel very welcome. The breakfast was plentiful and tasty. We often travel to the North East and will definitely stay here again when we are next in need of accomodation.
Everything was great for me. My wife found the bed a little too soft; however this is down to individual preferences.
Just a nights stay. The staff where fantastic and helped us with everything.
The location was great for what we needed
Perfect location for visiting friends in Wallsend. Lovely welcoming staff and very comfortable room, amazing shower. Our second time staying and will be back again!
Would have liked an extra pillow.
