Cons -
- The hotel was a little dated but the staff friendly and helpful made our stay very enjoyable
- The cups were the only thing cleaned and no spoons were left for us on 2 occasions. The bed was awfully uncomfortable to the point we left a day early. Staff were great though.
- The room was dreadful. We ended up having a lie down in the afternoon there and skipped out to another hotel for the night. The photos did not represent the room we got at all.

Located in a convenient place
Dirty old room nothing like the pictures.Booked for two nights but left after the first night and moved to a better hotel, didn’t bother with the breakfast. Please see attached pictures of the room and see what to expect. The description of the rooms and services are pure fantasy.I think this is just a drinking pub with no interest whatsoever in the accommodation side of the business. It was a waste of time and good money , an expensive mistake!!.
The property was well positioned for the purpose of our visit and the rooms were comfortable and clean. A good variety for breakfast, which was very good. The staff were all friendly.
Location for touring the moors.
View from room and noise of the extractor fan from kitchen and smell of food coming in when the window was open
The property is very tired and in need of some TLC. Nice hot water though!
Very outdated and tired. Not worth £95 for B&B. Sheet didn’t fit the bed however the bed was clean!
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast and evening meal was very good quality. The room was of a good standard.
Nothing really disappointed us. It met our expectations.
Central location, comfortable beds, staff were ALL very helpful and cheerful. In need of a bit of refurbishing, but as with all places these days they are struggling to get good staff and in the economic climate struggling a bit. It is an old place so little things have to be expected.
The location - the other 3 pubs were walking distance
I have no idea how this hotel was awarded 4* . Had looked at the positive reviews but was hugely disappointed. It was scruffy and there was paper coming off the walls. So much furniture in our room it left little room to move about. The bathroom was large but shower wasn't good. We had a meal before staying over and although husband's steak and ale pie filling was tasty there was no way it was filo pastry which was hard and inedible. Waited more than 20 mins for breakfast even though we were the only ones in the dining room. Breakfast was passable.
Breakfast was good staff were very friendly
Evening meal poor not enough variety
Breakfast was outstandingly, with a wide choice of freshly cooked hot food. Good to see Tiptree marmalade and Kellogs cereals (not cheaper alternatives).
The decor in the room was tatty and desperately needed an upgrade. The carpets were fraying and worn out and the bed was starting to sag, with tiny pieces of rubber on the sheets, presumably from the washing machine. No glasses in the room for cleaning teeth / taking medication etc.The welcome was curtly efficient and nobody was around when I left to take keys. Location of the car park not explained. More loving care for the hotel side of the business is needed, as opposed to the public bar and restaurant.Unfortunate that on the evening I arrived there was a strong smell of manure around the public car park behind the hotel.
There was an issue with the room and the manager owner went beyond our expectations and help find a different hotel in the area. They gave exceptional help and service
Great location. Great friendly staff
A little outdated
Stayed for two nights. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was very nice. Would use the Kings Head again.
Good choice on the breakfast menu. Freshly cooked. Staff very friendly and helpful. Private secure car parking. Good choice of food for dinner in their restaurant . Kirbymoorside a very pleasant large village with a lot of amenities. On doorstep of North York Moors
Couldn't work TV very well. Nothing else.
The breakfast was amazing and presentation and the choice was excellent.
My only disappointment was not being able to have an evening meal at the hotel, I wasn't aware I had to book and had to go to the pub next door.
Bed comfy, friendly staff
Small room
Staff very friendly and efficient - we where late for breakfast but the staff looked after us very professional
The rooms where very disappointing - our party had 2 rooms the TV did not work in both rooms, one room did not have a kettle, another no hair dryer. Decor very shabby and dark with made the room quiet depressing, carpets was very dirty/stained, no mattress cover on beds ( although bed was quite comfy ) our window was held open with a mini bottle of shampoo !! The ceiling in one room was very badly stained - I would guess from a historic leak above - but not attempt had been made to cover the stain up. All doors banged very loudly therefore we were woken up many time in the night and in the early hours.
Easy to find, plenty of free parking available, friendly staff, food in the evening and breakfast were both great. Smart TV in the room so could watch Netflix etc.
High levels in the room hadn't been cleaned, covered in dust and cobwebs. Headboard of the bed also covered in thick dust. Paint flaking in the bathroom. The room was in serious need of a deep clean and also a refresh.
