- This is a beautiful place to stay. The staff are lovely very efficient and friendly. If you want a break to relax and recharge your batteries this is the place to be. The food is amazing we had an evening meal and breakfast. The lady on reception was so nice. Booking. Com had mixed our booking up and gave us the wrong room but she quickly rectified this error. The round copper bath is the icing on the cake. I will look forward to our next stay as we will definitely be returning maybe in the summer to explore the beautiful surroundings. Thank you for a lovely stay.
- Amazing rooms, amazing food. Staff all friendly and a nice cozy atmosphere. We will return
- Beautiful location, clean rooms, very comfy king bed, friendly staff. Breakfast was good quality.
Cons -
- Sadly let down by the fact that the rooms (we were in Thyme) have very poor soundproofing. We could hear everything next door was saying, especially when they were being sick in the very echoey bathroom.
- Everything was perfect.
- Nothing to dislike whatsoever.

This is an excellent hotel/motel located a few miles from the Beamish Museum. It would be an ideal location for lodgings to visit Beamish. We had been booked into another lodging that was unacceptable and luckily were able to get the last room available at the Black Horse that evening. The room was amazing. Everything was large, the king size bed, the luxurious bathroom, complete with large soaking tub and wonderful shower, there was room to hang clothes in the wardrobe provided and put suitcases on pedestals for easy access. Rooms of this size are a luxury in Europe. (These were once small cottages and refitted into hotel rooms with a second floor added) Our bathroom window looked over beautiful fields of lavender, blue in the setting sun. The grounds are punctuated with flowerbeds that apparently bloom from spring to fall, there were blooms all over in September. Rooms are either ground floor or first floor. Those on the first floor have a nice covered porch with chairs where, weather permitting, one could sip a glass of wine looking onto the lavender fields. Parking was very near our room and the parking lots and drives are paved making it easy to move roller suitcases along to the rooms. We had a very good charcuterie board in the Black Horse Restaurant along with several pints of their best bitter. Breakfast next day was a combination of buffet and made to order full English or whatever variety one wanted. Breakfast, dinner and the beer were excellent. We were so lucky to find a room at the Black Horse on the fly as we were. Compared to the hovel we rejected the Black Horse looked like the Ritz Carlton.
Everything was perfect.
Fantastic location, really friendly and helpful staff, great room that was clean, super comfortable and tasty breakfast. Perfect stay.
Good location and very comfortable. Staff were good.
Lovely Furnishings. Comfortable and friendly, helpful staff.
Spacious, clean, lots of wood and copper, very relaxing
The whole ambience of the black horse is first class. Beautiful location quiet and scenic , the furnishings are of a very high standard , this is followed through to the bedding, large comfy beds, up market luxury furnishings to the comfortable bathroom. This place ranks very high indeed. The breakfast was delicious ,we had the full English , lots of other choices.Just 5 minutes from the Beamish museum.
Nothing to dislike whatsoever.
Wow!! Very impressive. Very spacious and clean. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The outside seating area and view from the studio were wonderful.
The bathroom was lovely but cold compared to the rest of the studio. There wasn't anywhere in the bathroom to hang clothes/ dressing gown.
Comfort of the bed, mattress, pillows was perfect.Quiet peaceful morningBreakfast was exceptional Staff were friendly at both check in and breakfast time.
Noise from other rooms flushing the toilet
The room was fabulous and very clean. The location was stunning with views around the surrounding countryside. We ate our evening mean and breakfast at the restaurant and the food was so tasty and the quality was clear to see and taste. Finally the icing on the cake, the staff were all amazing - really helpful and friendly, nothing was too much bother.
There wasn’t anything that we didn’t like ❤️
It was a last-minute booking and we couldn't fault it. The place was lovely. Our room was huge. The staff were polite and helpful.
The rooms and location where wonderful as were the staff, couldn't wish for anything more. Hope to return in the future
Staff were super friendly and property and the grounds were gorgeous. Restaurant did a great roast dinner
As we were in a ground floor cottage people could see into the room when walking past. Would have been great to have net curtains in addition to the curtains so we didn't have to shut the daylight out but still had privacy
Good location.Beautiful Building in superb rural surroundings.
Limited food options for Dining on Thursday !
The rooms were amazing solid wood furniture solid wood floors . Roll top bath , powerful shower and massive room
Very nice room and clean staff were very friendly and helpful
Absolute beautiful place with stunning room.Went for my 50th wedding anniversary with friend.
The only let down was they had ran out of a lot of meals at dinner. When you book for over night stay and 3 rooms, part of it was having an evening meal together.Although what we had was beautiful, running out of options should be better managed.
Very friendly and helpful staff.
They had a big party in on Saturday night so the food took a long time to come out. There were complimentary drinks as a compensation and the staff were very understanding.
