Pros +
- Very unsatisfactory
- The reception was quick and simple next to a nice fire. The rooms were comfortable with a nice high pressured shower.
- The building was incredibly beautiful, the staff were very helpful and friendly.
Cons -
- The room was freezing cold. The heat eventually came on on the first night. It didn't come on at all on the second night even though I reported it and was told that someone would come and fix it.
- Walls are quite thin so you can hear conversations between rooms and the supplied tea was not very good.
- Nothing wrong, an old hotel so obviously dated in areas but the beautiful character, gardens and staff made up for any defect.

Great room, very comfortable bed
Breakfast was poor quality
Decor that's it
It was booked for my birthday with spa in mind when we booked it stated spa facilities so I didn't mind the price however £86 for just a room is very expensive there was no spa or pool available the room was dusty and not very clean was very upsetting it was card only and I only had cash so I had to pay more for taxi to an from hotel to go for something to eat. Stacking up the cost. Wasn't happy ruined my birthday
Beautiful old part and the staff were amazing.
No swimming pool but still checked as having one on booking.com search facility.
Beautiful location.
Room was dated and Mold on the windows.
Lovely layout, location, views
It sounded like the people next door to us were in the same room, it’s horrendous! It would also benefit from bathroom being updated especially the shower
The staff were great. I think the receptionist was called Santosh. I felt very sorry for him having to explain there was now no swimming pool or spa. This was the main reason we came, we won't be back. All the lifts were inoperative. It feels like a hotel that is running things down. The room was comfy and clean.
No swimming pool or spa (main reason we came). Lifts inoperative. No cream teas, which my mum loved last time. A general feeling of being run down.
The views and staff polite and welcoming.
Lift wasn’t working so had to carry all our luggage upstairs as well as walk out of the building and round the side of it to get to our room in the rain. Room was ok but shower was rubbish, lighting very dull and was cold in the room. Mirror at table to get ready was up on the wall so no use if you sit down to do your hair and makeup. No plugs at side of bed to charge phone, only on other side of the room. Rather outdated room. Had a family next door to us whose child woke us up screaming and running round the bedroom making an absolute racket all morning. Breakfast was rubbish. Only wanted a cup of tea and a slice of toast with jam on as have a gastric sleeve so can’t eat much but was told still had to pay £15. Husband did enjoy his breakfast though. It was ok and staff are lovely so it’s fine. Wouldn’t stay again though for £110 that we paid (£20 of that was for early check in).
The cleaning lady was amazing.Reception staff friendly..
Spa closed.. .Whole site feels tired and run down.Lift out of serviceOver flowing binsLooks derelictStayed here many times.. Everytime it gets slightly sadder..
Staff wear nice
rooms very dated and bit rough around the edges the hole place really needs money spending on it when i came back at night no one in reception and no one answering duty phone went straight to voice mail so was wanting some room service
Room was not to standard, marks on walls and mattress. We was in the annex part as we had a small dog, however the room was not as advertised
Cleanliness, standard of room, 1 bath towel
We had been here some years ago, so knew it was a nice hotel in a nice location. We were looking forward to going back again.
On the first night the place was desolate. We have been told that the locals don't go here anymore since the management took asylum seekers in 2023 and fell out of favour. Looks like Macdonalds have shot themselves in the foot, the last time we were there the place was very lively. The lift was out of order? Then on the second night the walls were literally shaking until 1230am due to unbelievably loud music from a 21st party. We couldn't wait to get away from the place. How long before it closes??
The building was full of character and was set in lovely surroundings. The breakfast choice was limited but was very tasty. Staff were friendly and helpful and made the stay enjoyable.
The room was quite dusty, particularly the water jug and glasses left out for me. The room was very hot when I got there so I had to open the widow to cool it down.
Stayed with dogs and were put into a side annex which allowed us a quieter space which was good. Amazing forest walks around the areaRooms are dated and we weren’t prewarned about a function happening so there was loud music until midnight however it wouldn’t stop us staying here again
Staff, Janice, very helpfull and friendly.
The restaurant stops serving at 20:30. And this was a weekend?
Staff were great, lovely old building with beautiful walks around the lake
Decor tired. Hotel in need of refurbishment. Food tasteless and limited menu for dinner. Buffet breakfast not worth the cost.
It’s good price for what it is , breakfast is good. Our dog enjoys running around the grounds
Not being able to have food there at the weekend and rooms are a bit dated
