    Pros +

    • Warm and cosy property. Lovely fires in the dining area and central location. Staff very friendly and accommodating to us. Kind to meet our needs and those of our dog.
    • Our room was really beautiful! Very clean and spacious. The bathroom was very cold when we arrived but can’t be helped given the old building (and weather!)
    • Brilliant location right in the centre of everything, plenty of lovely shops and restaurants within minutes walk and the food and drinks at the hotel were amazing. Friendly and helpful staff. Room was beautifully decorated and felt special. Free parking was easy to find and we didn’t struggle to get a space both days.

    Cons -

    • Lights very dim in the room and in bar/ restaurant areas. Made reading a book or the food menu a challenge for those of us of a certain age! Parking was tight as well.
    • The lady who checked us in (didn’t catch her name but she was in blazer and trousers at the front desk!) was really lovely. We didn’t feel the general staff were that attentive. We asked to please put a bucket of ice in the room whilst we were out, they said they were too busy and it would take 25 mins (totally fine!) when we got back over an hour later we were then told by a male staff member ‘we said it wouldn’t be there till 4.30, you’ve still got 6 minutes’ (in quite a sarcastic tone!) which wasn’t true for one, and we just didn’t feel it was a necessary comment given we asked really nicely and were appreciative that it was busy.
    • Lots of stairs which isn’t a problem but just be mindful when packing as suitcase was difficult to get to the room, hold-all bags would be easier.

The location is excellent. The rooms were comfortable and great facilities, tea, coffee facilities in your room.Staff could not have been more helpful and the food was excellent. The property has a lovely warm and cozy feel.

Room was really cozy and the shower was amazing

Their own restaurant was a bit too expensive but food was not too bad

Wonderful boutique hotel in a very historic building, beautifully renovated. Impeccable room with very comfortable beds and an excellent bathroom. Very good daily housekeeping. The hotel restaurant is excellent, with fantastic food and good service.

I had an issue with the extra bed charge (£70), as this policy was not clearly stated in the Booking.com listing at the time of reservation. I tried to explain this to the staff member and show that the information was unclear, but they kept repeating that the charge was valid according to the hotel’s rules. I accepted the charge despite disagreeing and mentioned that I would include this in my review. It is worth considering whether this was a Booking.com or hotel communication issue. In any case, a refund would be very welcome, as my complaint is legitimate.

Quality breakfast & superb location, the car charging points were really appreciated in the rear car park. The staff were all really nice & helpful.

Our bedroom was in the attic & definitely not what we would have chosen had we known

Great location right on market square. Nice welcome and help with bags. Comfortable bed , quality linen , nice bathroom products. We ate a selection of nibbles and starters at the pub and enjoyed all of them. Lovely atmosphere , brilliant playlist of relaxing music on the night we were there.

The large nails in the bedroom wooden floors need to be hammered down. Painful.

Staff were friendly and accommodating.Nice and quiet room.Perfect location!

I'm quite tall, so would have preferred a slightly bigger room. But it was the 'Crow's Nest', so shouldn't grumble too much!

    9DeanPosted on: 1-23-2026

Excellent location, parking, great staff and nice rooms. Good food. Lots of character.

    7LauraPosted on: 1-23-2026

    Brilliant location

The sink in The Crows Nest is in an awkward place due to the ceiling, makes it difficult to use for washing face etc.

    10CarolynPosted on: 1-23-2026

Very well located just on the Market Square, 10 metres from the bus stop. Cosy atmosphere as you enter through the pub. Our bedroom was very comfortable. We had dinner once at the pub, and the fish and chips were delicious. It also has vegetarian options. Very convenient location to visit other places nearby by bus.

    All was fine!

    8DanielPosted on: 1-22-2026

In general a very pleasant stay, location was great and parking very easy.

I would suggest that some of the bar staff could be a little more attentive and communicate with the customers rather talking to one another and ignoring us.

Central location and very picturesque. Hotel perfect and staff very friendly and efficient. Rooms were spotless and food excellent . We had the perfect stay and booked again for June.

    8SallyPosted on: 1-18-2026

Location in the town is perfect and parking behind is handy. The evening meal was delicious as was the continental breakfast. The ambience was very relaxed with good attention to detail on lighting and candles. Very easy to have our dog with us.

The headboard in Room 3 was hard to sit up in bed and have a cup of tea ! Not sure why, possibly the height or how much it sticks out. Only a small thing to mention.

    7HeatherPosted on: 1-12-2026

Greeting on arrival wasn’t v friendly unfortunately

    8GailPosted on: 1-11-2026

The breakfast was excellent loads to choose from , great staff clean and very welcoming.

Everything was great if I had to say anything I would have liked a bit of storage in my room like a draw and a shelf in the bathroom as there was nowhere to put toiletries

    10KatharinePosted on: 1-7-2026
