About

In gardens and woodland, the Hare & Hounds is a charming, traditional English country house hotel, with a popular restaurant and bar. The Westonbirt National Arboretum is half a mile away. There are bedrooms in the original house, as well as the Garden Cottage and Coach House. Many overlook the gardens or countryside. All have free Wi-Fi internet access. The Beaufort Restaurant has original features such as a beamed ceiling, and large windows that overlook the garden. The more casual Jack Hare’s is a cozy bar with log fires, real ales and tasty meals. The Hare & Hounds Hotel is just off the A433 road, with easy access to the M4 and M5 motorways. It is 20 miles from Bath, 2 miles from Tetbury.

    • Beautiful hotel in a stunning location. Great restaurant and bar with really tasty food. The lounge and library were very relaxing areas. The staff were very friendly and attentive.
    • Good breakfast and the dinner menu was lovely. Big comfortable bed and a great big walk in shower.
    • Lovely hotel in rural setting - very nice bar and general furnishings

    Cons -

    • Our room was a little tired, could do with a freshen up.
    • It is right by a noisy main rd so make sure you get a room as far back from road as possible if you like to open your windows.
    • I was in a courtyard room outside the main building. Noisy rd and there was a lorry, delivering the barrels arrived at 7.30am which was early!

The room was fabulous and warm when I arrived. Bar area and seating area were so comfortable and welcoming.

The staff were really friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. The room was clean and the bed comfy. Good selection of food for breakfast. Felt like a little bit of luxury without being pretentious

    Nothing- was a lovely stay

Lovely room, very spacious and well appointed.Comfortable bed, nice touches like slippers and robes.

The room was well finished. Car park had plenty of space, even though the hotel was full. Reception team very friendly and helpful. Peaceful and quiet location, comfy bed.

We had a few problems and to be fair to the team, they tried their hardest to help, I was also offered a 22% discount. Issues we experienced, the room was located in a block just outside the hotel itself, the hallway and room had not been heated and were cold enough for it to be uncomfortable, not really the best first impression after a long drive. The hot water had failed and although a plumber was called, it wasn’t fixed in time to allow one of us to prepare for an evening appointment, we were offered use of a single room to shower in a different part of the hotel, which required repacking my wife’s bags back up, crossing over in the rain, repacking and coming back over. I waited for the plumber. Although we went on to have a lovely evening elsewhere it left us feeling disappointed. Bear in mind this is not a cheap hotel compared to others and it’s winter. It would be reasonable to expect that someone would at least check that there is heating and hot water? One small point to note for rainy days, the hotel staff kindly supply umbrellas in the foyer of the room block, but there’s only 2 for 4 rooms. When we needed one there weren’t any, a recommendation would be to place 2 on each floor? Our final disappointment was the breakfast, based on our experience and those at the table next to us, the vegetarian breakfast is to be avoided. Again the reputation of the restaurant would suggest a much better dining experience.

Beautiful hotel, with lovely rooms (great attention to detail, e.g. biscuits, coffee machine with all sorts of options) and a very nice bar and restaurant. Food was delicious, and place looked very festive when we were there. Would definitely come back, and wish we’d stayed longer

    Beautiful period property

The only thing that let it down was the bed. It was as hard as a board, woke up in night, extremely uncomfortable.

English-style building with all comforts. Both Restaurant and bar dining options are located in the main building, with good food served in cosy atmosphere. Good breakfast.

Breakfast was great and so were the staff

I had to carry my own suitcase up (heavy!). It much more importantly,There was no cold water for a bath or shower: I did tell reception who I am sure dealt with it.

    8AngelaPosted on: 1-19-2026

The staff were friendly and professional. The food was delicious. We had dinner on both nights.

The rooms needed some basic decorating. There were scuff marks on the walls that could easily be made good.

Beautifully appointed country house hotel that offers both formal & informal dining. Lovely bedroom with high quality products for the bathroom. Fresh milk, shortbread & Nespresso machine on top of regular tea & coffee products. Very dog friendly.

The beef sandwich wasn’t very special & the bacon at breakfast was undercooked.

    9JenPosted on: 1-3-2026

Friendly staff, beautiful interior and surroundingsLovely bedroom. Close to Westonbirt for winter light show.

Not a dislike but maybe the hotel could think about a shuttle bus to the Westonbirt light show in future years for a small fee?

The lunch we had was very good and the main reason for our visit.

We stayed for the first time .Disappointed with the maintenance of the room. In our opinion the room was looking tired.

    8VickiPosted on: 12-29-2025

The hotel was decorated and maintained to a high standard, the room was spacious.

We would have preferred to have a mini fridge available. And the heating was a little on the generous side.

Lovely building in v good location

Poor breakfast - quantities on mean side and sausage undercooked. . Hard to book space to eat in bar after 8 pm even though there were free spaces. Food v average and perhaps overpriced like the wine list.

    9LouisePosted on: 12-25-2025

Facilities for the dog, lovely food and atmosphere. Lovely big room and bathroom.

Shower needs more pressure. On the expensive side.

    8AndrewPosted on: 12-20-2025

A decent hotel well located for Bath and the Cotswolds. Excellent breakfast and comfortable rooms with good pillows. Room 35 was quiet as requested. Friendly staff.

Lovely property. Nice room - clean and comfortable. Food was very good. Plenty of parking. Good WiFi. Very good value for money.
